I've won the lottery!

I've won the lottery! Well I've received an email to say I've won a prize. However, the National Lottery website is down until the end of the day so I'm going to have to wait to see how much I've won.

On doing a bit of googling it seems that for any wins over £50k they call you, so I'm guessing I haven't won the millions. My guess is £4.32, but it would be very nice indeed it it was £50k. I'm already spending it in my mind.....

How much do you have to win for them to email you to say you’ve won a prize?

Any small amount if you buy your ticket via their app. They just say you've won a prize, then you have to log in to see how much, so there's a suspenseful few minutes thinking you're a millionaire until you find you've won a free lucky dip, or £3!!!

I call these Schrodinger's emails. I have won big (the cat is alive) or have I won £2.40 (the cat is dead). The anticipation just adds to the excitement and I try to eek it out a little while before I log onto the website.

I'm the same with scratchcards. I leave them on the side for a few days/ week and imagine that I'm Schrodinger's millionaire. I left one last time for a week, won £4! Go me!

a lot! 7 figures but it was over 10 years ago now

Can I ask if it made a difference to your life, good or bad.

I know one lottery winner, she won a life changing amount. Moved to be near the coast, I kept in touch for a while. She said she wished she had never won the money, it split the family up.

Ialwaysthoughtitwasadojo · 25/01/2026 19:09

Goods luck op!

FrightfulNightfull · 25/01/2026 19:25

Almost wish I hadn’t seen this thread - makes me wish I could win! I know exactly what I’d do (with more than £2.40 I mean).
Good luck OP!

Sugarpopsicle · 25/01/2026 19:36

@TheCountessofLocksley

Desperate to know - Lucky Dip? Or did you select the numbers?

I won £25 (ATH) on Set for Life the other day.

Felt like I’d hit the jackpot, given my previous wins of £5 and £2.40…

ThisAutumnTown · 25/01/2026 19:55

I can’t wait to see how much you’ve won 😂 too invested

StephensLass1977 · 25/01/2026 19:58

I recall the first time I got one of those lottery win emails. It was around 2018, and I too couldn't access the website until the next day. I hadn't known that you received that email even for the smallest of wins. I assumed it was only for huge wins.

I couldn't sleep all night, and was working out how to tell my son and partner, who were both at home. I was SO excited. Imagined how I was going to tell my horrible boss to go f himself. So imagine my horror in the morning when I saw I'd won £2. 😂

So yes, they will email you for the tiniest amount.

Babyitscoldoutsideinmyoffice · 25/01/2026 20:06

Husband got the email last night. We’ve spent all day talking about how we’d spend it. I hope it stays offline for ages, it’s been so fun!

catsmother · 25/01/2026 20:13

25 years ago I won just under £1K with 5 numbers on Lotto. I think that prize is often higher, maybe a few thousand, but quite a few people got 5 numbers that week.

It bought me a very nice Cyprus holiday so I was really pleased .... however, the feeling I had when checking the result between matching the 5th number and before, unfortunately, NOT matching the 6th was quite extraordinary as in that split second of ignorant bliss I felt on the cusp of my life changing forever and the adrenalin kicked in big time - and the reality of disappointment was rather crushing for a while.

Ah well ....

YerMaw16608 · 25/01/2026 20:21

I don't do the big Lottery, but do buy a £1 (not even £2/£5) Instant every few weeks, spending about £10 before I win anything (usually £1). By then, I've forgotten the expenditure, and am thrilled witless... Sigh.

Aww, I love dreaming about a big win 😊

Every time the Omaze house is in Cornwall I spend 2 months dreaming about winning it. I check the floor plans and pictures and choose which room is mine and which ones for the dc. I Google the town and imagine leaving my big house amd wandering into town for lunch and some shopping. I may have even Googled the council tax for the Porthcothan Bay one. I come up with a business plan for the 250k so I can keep the house and not have to sell it. It keeps me occupied! 🤷‍♀️

Literally me with every lottery draw, dreaming of the wins is a nice distraction from doom scrolling the news etc. I search Rightmove, plan renovations, have a list of beneficiaries I’d give to. One day…

TheJadeDeer · 25/01/2026 20:55

Oh come on, come on, I want to know how much it is 😂😂😂

A lucky dip
can’t imagine having regular numbers, imagine if you forgot one week 😱

I win £1996 in 1996 which pays for a very nice holiday at the time

Nutmuncher · 25/01/2026 21:05

@TheCountessofLocksley if the win was 10 years ago what percentage have you spent of the money so far if you don’t mind me asking? Is the interest enough to live off? I have many questions 😆😁

Congratulations! Put half of whatever it is in savings (S&S ISA!!!!)

ThisChirpyLemonUser · 25/01/2026 21:24

i won three pounds on scratch cards after buying two of them so I'm one pound up! The scratch cards have the best odds of winning and are instant so they are my favourite and they support the Olympics!

it did …..and my DC too, thank you.
my local food bank received a BIG boost too. I volunteer with them and the interest from the money I donated is really helping lots of families. I could never have dreamt of doing anything on that scale before

freakingscared · 25/01/2026 21:55

I hate those emails . The expectation kills me lol

Me too and the app and website are down and am also currently abroad…we could both be waiting for millions 😁

Snaletrale · 25/01/2026 22:31

It’s nail biting waiting…

Kazzaa46 · 25/01/2026 23:07

I’ve won the postcode lottery twice…a £5 M&S voucher and a £5 Greggs voucher 😆 it costs about £13 a month to play

That’s amazing. It sounds like the winning numbers found its way to the right person!!

MeouwKing · 25/01/2026 23:39

I won 6 quid on the horses over the weekend. I do 10p doubles on 7 horses every Saturday and 3 came in.
