I've won the lottery!

I've won the lottery! Well I've received an email to say I've won a prize. However, the National Lottery website is down until the end of the day so I'm going to have to wait to see how much I've won.

On doing a bit of googling it seems that for any wins over £50k they call you, so I'm guessing I haven't won the millions. My guess is £4.32, but it would be very nice indeed it it was £50k. I'm already spending it in my mind.....

@@QueenofAssam don’t spend it all on seeeties!

I seem to win around £3 every time I go abroad. I get an email telling me that I’ve won, but I can’t log into my account when out of the country. I spend the holiday wondering and then find out it’s a free lucky dip or something.

Heyhelga · 25/01/2026 11:50

The disappointment of recieving the email and opening your account to see you've only won a couple of quid is real. I only play when they say there will be a guaranteed ten UK millionaires to be honest.

Anxietyspiral · 25/01/2026 11:50

Aww, I love dreaming about a big win 😊

Every time the Omaze house is in Cornwall I spend 2 months dreaming about winning it. I check the floor plans and pictures and choose which room is mine and which ones for the dc. I Google the town and imagine leaving my big house amd wandering into town for lunch and some shopping. I may have even Googled the council tax for the Porthcothan Bay one. I come up with a business plan for the 250k so I can keep the house and not have to sell it. It keeps me occupied! 🤷‍♀️

RazedBeds · 25/01/2026 11:54

I won a frying pan in the postcode lottery this week. I used it to fry the beef for last night's cottage pie. It operated perfectly.

Fingalscave · 25/01/2026 11:56

Me too, I found the results online and I got 4 numbers but I don't know how much that wins. I wish the flipping website would come back up!

ninjaassassin · 25/01/2026 11:59

I've won a significant amount on the lottery and they dont ring you. They send you a different kind of email. So, the small prize one says "you've won a prize!" etc but for significant wins they send you an email saying "we have some exciting news about your lottery numbers" they dont say the amount and you have to either log in to your account to see or ring their customer service number.

WhyCantThingsJustBeEasy · 25/01/2026 12:07

@DilemmaDelilah I'm hoping you've won BIG!! Good luck 🤞

They don’t call you …..they don’t have your number 🤦‍♀️
you call them if it’s over £50k and they initiate a secure in person claim process.

I got a lovely bottle of champagne, some memorabilia and to meet various private banking manager, investment managers and wealth planners/solicitors. Once all the I’d checks had been done and the private banking account set up they transferred the money.

So fun - can you tell us more? It’s obviously my favourite daydream so any little details help fuel my imagination!

Congratulations! The luck is with you.

Zanatdy · 25/01/2026 12:30

i’ve had that email many times, including 2wks ago where I won £30 or so. I just google the numbers as I have the same numbers. One day, one day.

PinterandPirandello · 25/01/2026 12:36

National Lottery put a notice up saying their site is offline for maintenance this weekend.

Glammabobra · 25/01/2026 12:41

I won £1000 on the Postcode Lottery,a wonderful surprise and I spent it very carefully on a summer house so I can sew in there.
4 other neighbours also won 😊

PinterandPirandello · 25/01/2026 12:42

I won a lucky dip last week which then won £30 so quite chuffed. I love daydreaming after the email about how I’d tell the family, split the money, tell work etc. It’s a bit crushing when it’s £2.40 or another small amount. Interesting to hear it’s a differently worded email when you win a big amount.

I used to do Omaze but too many caveats with that one, most of the houses I've seen on Omaze are the ones that have been on RM for ages (not all I admit) I remember the Oxfordshire Cotswold house which flooded badly after the winners moved in, also if you win you have to contact them within 3 days of the email being sent to you otherwise you don't win the prize, they check your credit score and you can't claim the prize if you're bankrupt or have ccjs, I haven't got any of these but I thought that's really mean as it winning would help someone get out of debt

Teenagerantruns · 25/01/2026 12:52

I had 2 email on Saturday. Won £10 on thunder ball and £2.40 on euro millions. Thats my luck gone l suppose for next 10 years.

Wintersgirl · 25/01/2026 12:56

I sometimes wish when there's a MASSIVE jackpot like £190 million, why not just divide it up so 190 people win a million quid each? Not that I'd say no to £190 millionGrin

Fairygardenx · 25/01/2026 12:59

I was mucking about few weeks ago online.
And won £300 with my 50p bet.
It was a one off game cashed out.

Yes we won 3K and some of our neighbours also played, was a very exciting time as we had won boxes of rituals goodies the month before and the month after the 3K we won our ticket price back again.
sadly 3K was not enough to retire on but Dh and I put it towards our mum and dad holiday away that year. Bonus free money, ps I say ‘we’ won but it’s very much the royal we as I don’t play 🤣

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 25/01/2026 10:05

This is how the real lottery tell you if you bought a ticket online. It’s not a scam. Your email just tells you to log into with no link, you have to go back to your account/app. Apparently they dont tell you the amount in the email because when they were setting up the system, it was still really common for families/couples to just have one email address everyone used and you have a right to keep it secret.

But if it’s over £50k they won’t just give it to you via the app you have to call them /have a meeting to get the money.

if it’s over £50k they won’t just give it to you via the app you have to call them /have a meeting to get the money.

They do that for less than 50k. I won less than 50k, but still a good amount, years ago and had to call and arrange how I was going to get it. They sent a cheque.

housethatbuiltme · 25/01/2026 13:07

You could win under 50k and still be a nice amount.

Biggest win I ever encountered someone making in real life was £5k and some change back in the 90s. Not world changing but nice still.

Of course most wins are likely more just a tenner or something but someone somewhere has to win more.
