I've won the lottery!

I've won the lottery! Well I've received an email to say I've won a prize. However, the National Lottery website is down until the end of the day so I'm going to have to wait to see how much I've won.

On doing a bit of googling it seems that for any wins over £50k they call you, so I'm guessing I haven't won the millions. My guess is £4.32, but it would be very nice indeed it it was £50k. I'm already spending it in my mind.....

I was pooped on by a bird (in a very dramatic fashion) when we went to feed the ducks/geese/swans earlier. I thought it must be a good luck sign, so tried to buy some lottery tickets but found the app was down. Devastated. 😂

Good luck OP. Hope it’s life changing!! 💐

I won £46.5 million on the lottery this week. It’s not the UK lottery, but the International Lottery with the Nigerian Lottery Federation. I am so excited. It’s one of those lotteries where you don’t have to enter but they select a winner by email. I’ve just transferred the Administration Release Fee, Security Clearance Fee and Customs Declaration Tax by Western Union and will get my winnings tomorrow.

madaboutpurple · 25/01/2026 15:23

I won £5 once and spent it straight away as it paid for the next week's tickets.

IHeartJeff · 25/01/2026 15:23

Don’t check! Then you can live in ignorant bliss for a few days and mentally spend it

I had an e mail from Premium Bonds. I imagined 100k. It turned out to be 100 pounds. It was still nice to receive. Good luck. If u post a GIF of someone sitting in a hammock,we will know you have won big time 🤣

I know someone who has £50k in Premium Bonds. She wins something every month, but since she treats it as an investment she's very matter of fact about it. Basically if you have enough the small wins average out statistically and it becomes like a savings account where you get about 3.5% but could get 2000%.

@Nitgel I can't check my numbers because the lottery website is down. And anyway it was a lucky dip so I don't know what my numbers were!

Good luck !

CucumberCool · 25/01/2026 15:39

Best of luck op. The suspense must be killing you!

Its hidden my reply as I posted a link but said £140 for 4 numbers

Oh thanks for letting me know- that's a nice surprise!

That's how I'd advise anyone use premium bonds to be honest. The chances of winning are minuscule if you've barely anything in there

There was a thread a few years ago where the OP won 14,000,000 😳

She was a single mother to one child and I remember her saying she had a really nice handbag collection now.

ETA - Here's the thread for those who want some daydream material - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/AMA/4271491-I-won-the-lottery-a-few-years-ago-AMA

When this PP won & the ‘lottery man’ arrived to verify the paper ticket they had to prove where bought, receipt etc & it wasn’t straightforward. It also took 2 months plus to get money paid in due to new account set up.

What if you bought a paper ticket with cash & couldn’t prove it was yours? It doesn’t sound like just having it proof enough?

shellyleppard · 25/01/2026 16:15

@RazedBeds i won a panini press!!! Still working lol

You’d be able to say where it was bought and they’d probably be able to get cctv to check

I’ll keep the receipt next time! :) The retailers have individual codes I think!

Tarkan · 25/01/2026 16:34

Well I might not have won millions on the lotto, but just had a message to say we won the bonus ball at our local pub this week. That’s twice we’ve won that now in just a few months.

Dr13Hadley · 25/01/2026 16:35

I got the same email at 10.45 last night and the planned downtime started at 11pm so I was able to go on and check - won £30!

Rowgtfc72 · 25/01/2026 16:49

So if you win over 50k and they have to ID the account holder I'm screwed.
No driving licence or passport.

Presumably you’d have motivation to apply for one then. A provisional would do

It's seldom a good sign.
Last time it happened to me, it was at the seaside, and a huge seagull was the culprit, I thought I had been thumped on the shoulder it came down with such force....and to make matters worse, the stain never completely came out of my jacket.

Fantastic! The jackpot? A syndicate?

TheCountessofLocksley · 25/01/2026 18:23

@Inthebasement- from memory, Grant Thornton and Coutts, can’t remember the other. The fees were quite high (and interest rates were low) so I went with the firm my uncle uses.

The legal advice was helpful - looking at reducing burdens around inheritance tax, wills etc. That was Shoosmiths
