I've won the lottery!

I've won the lottery! Well I've received an email to say I've won a prize. However, the National Lottery website is down until the end of the day so I'm going to have to wait to see how much I've won.

On doing a bit of googling it seems that for any wins over £50k they call you, so I'm guessing I haven't won the millions. My guess is £4.32, but it would be very nice indeed it it was £50k. I'm already spending it in my mind.....

@Nitgel I can't check my numbers because the lottery website is down. And anyway it was a lucky dip so I don't know what my numbers were!

There was a thread a few years ago where the OP won 14,000,000 😳

She was a single mother to one child and I remember her saying she had a really nice handbag collection now.

ETA - Here's the thread for those who want some daydream material - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/AMA/4271491-I-won-the-lottery-a-few-years-ago-AMA

I won the lottery (a few years ago) AMA | Mumsnet

NC for this as I remained anonymous, which was fairly pointless as I did tell some family and friends and it spread from there.

you can check it on a billion other websites though

Only if you have your numbers memorised or a paper ticket. Online tickets you need to log in to view your numbers in order to cross reference what is on other sites.

Since you only get the emails with online tickets then OP either has a lucky dip or didn't memorise her numbers.

Lifeomars · 25/01/2026 13:16

Gave up playing years ago, then went on to do the Postcode lottery as a mate won £1k and it inspired me. Gave it two years and not even a fiver so now don't bother with that either.

fourquenelles · 25/01/2026 13:22

I call these Schrodinger's emails. I have won big (the cat is alive) or have I won £2.40 (the cat is dead). The anticipation just adds to the excitement and I try to eek it out a little while before I log onto the website.

Beachtastic · 25/01/2026 13:24

Congratulations OP, I hope it's a nice amount!

I'm sure you've done this, but be careful to go direct to the National Lottery website to check your winnings rather than following any links in the email.

Spirila · 25/01/2026 13:46

Congratulations

Most likely a lucky dip for the next draw…which will yield nothing.

🍀 for £30+ though!

when you win lucky dip its always says on the email. so anything more than that its saying you won the price

Years ago my husband was ONE digit away from winning millions, the man in the PO said he had never seen a ticket so close to winning big.
Husband workmate said he would feel like killing himself if he was so near yet so far. I found that crazy.
The winnings bought us a lovely holiday....who needs millions anyway?

NovemberMorn · 25/01/2026 13:52

PS...to add, I hope the OP has won enough to treat herself.

LadyLaLaLand · 25/01/2026 13:02

if it’s over £50k they won’t just give it to you via the app you have to call them /have a meeting to get the money.

They do that for less than 50k. I won less than 50k, but still a good amount, years ago and had to call and arrange how I was going to get it. They sent a cheque.

Not any more, anything up to 50k is auto paid into your bank now without claiming.

Fortheloveofpizza · 25/01/2026 14:08

Me too! £2.80 I think it was going by the balance increase.

I have always wondered if it’s an email for the Million's

evtheria · 25/01/2026 14:09

I hope you’ve won lots and lots and lots!

Christ, I bet your DH was sweating as he was checking the numbers!

Me too, I've had several Schrodinger's lottery tickets over the years. Generally wait a while before logging in to check it. Never won big yet. Sibling won £50k on PBs last year though.

Tarkan · 25/01/2026 14:29

Still never had an email. Not even a lucky dip win. One number is all I seem to get at the most LOL.

However I’ve done fairly well from Pick My Postcode (used to be called the Free Postcode Lottery until the Postcode Lottery made them change the name, I think the free one had been around for longer as well). I’ve had 3 wins there so far, nothing too huge but I’ve got a decent bonus built up which you get on top of your winnings which really helps and doesn’t cost a thing to take part.

Natsku · 25/01/2026 14:31

Hope you've won a nice amount!

I just checked my online lotto account, I won a whopping 12 cents the last time I played Grin (part of one of those group tickets so was the 3 euro win split amongst everyone in the group)
Feel inspired by this thread so bought a ticket for this week's lotto, 16 million jackpot so fingers crossed. Don't know if they send emails here as I've never noticed one for any of my tiny wins but perhaps when its more than a euro they send something.

Ignore website down!

Queenoftartts · 25/01/2026 14:39

Most I’ve won is £5. I put the same numbers on every 4 weeks for Wednesday and Saturdays Lotto. So last night I tried to play online but wasn’t able to put tickets on the app because they’re updating it. Still can’t how long does it take ffs?

Inthebasement · 25/01/2026 14:56

TheCountessofLocksley · 25/01/2026 08:56

They don’t call you …..they don’t have your number 🤦‍♀️
you call them if it’s over £50k and they initiate a secure in person claim process.

I got a lovely bottle of champagne, some memorabilia and to meet various private banking manager, investment managers and wealth planners/solicitors. Once all the I’d checks had been done and the private banking account set up they transferred the money.

Edited

Countess, were their financial advisors any good or did you decide to find your own?

This is why I prefer Lotto to Euromillions. Second prize is 1m…on Euromillions its something like 150k, even with a huge jackpot. Ive always thought they should make the jackpot less and spread the love with some decent 2/3 prizes.

JustSawJohnny · 25/01/2026 15:01

I'd go ahead and assume I'd won 49,999 pounds and get the champers in, just in case 😁

caringcarer · 25/01/2026 15:04

My sister's sil and DH and bil and DW both won the Postcode lottery. He won £70k as had 2 tickets and she won £35k.

LBFseBrom · 25/01/2026 15:04

I'm in a syndicate where I live, I have two numbers a week.
Last year some time I won £50 and was over the moon!

A few years back I won £3000 on the people's postcode lottery and that was marvellous.
