Another person murdered by ICE

I’m in tears and shock at the brutality happening in broad daylight in the US. I’m a US citizen, emigrated to the UK for family reasons 12 years ago (now dual citizen), and I am just in disbelief at what’s happening. I was sick when I learned of Trump’s first election and gravely disappointed by the second one. But the sheer brutality of what’s happening in MN right now has really thrown me. I have friends and family there, in Chicago (where ICE raids were occurring in the autumn), in NY, and in California. I’m hearing that even worse things are happening in the Deep South but fewer observers and press to report on it. Posting here because I feel so lost.

There you go, it’s a pattern to derail isn’t it. You post misleading, irrelevant comments, and then go round and round in circles. You must be feeling dizzy. You carry on, we’ll be over here talking about the subject of the thread.

Edited

It is effective as so many posts are taken up by calling out these posters.

Ignore and we will get back on topic, the killing of Alex Pretti by ICE

How DARE Noem say that showing up with a gun should be grounds for a person's murder

well that makes no sense in a country that seems proud of their right to carry guns 😳

Here are her words
^ I don’t know any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition, rather than a sign. This is a violent riot.^

Where does that leave Kyle Rittenhouse then?

As has the actions of the Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and other Europeans. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread. Do start your own though . . .

Why do you keep parroting 'start your own thread' when you read anything that you don't like.

Grow up. That poster was responding to me, not you.

AS I have said, pointing out that the U.K government has done similar actions to Trump's administration is extremely relevant

Of course I have seen the news. What is happening in the US is no worse than in many other countries.

As I said, the last time that Trump was in power, the news CONSTANTLY reported how unsafe the USA was. People tried to talk me out of even going to the USA on a holiday at the time. I went and had a lovely time.

You do know that the news only reports negative things don't you? Their aim is to keep people worried in general, as worried people are easier to control.

When have you last seen a news story about something good? The news is purposefully negative to cause fear.

I'll tell you this. The news about the U.K is also extremely negative!

I lived in another European country last year. The news about the U.K was constantly negative. It constantly showed the UK to be crime ridden and suffering economically after Brexit.

When I told my friends that I was moving to the U.K, they were worried about me moving here!

The news only ever shows the negative things about countries

Which European country, hardly outing is it? Or, did these conversations happen precisely nowhere!

Surely you know how the U.K is being reported on?

Do a quick google search about the U.K.

A lot of news articles mention rising crime, rising youth unemployment, worsening economic conditions after Brexit

OK... this is taken from someone who has watched footage numerous times. And this is the last time I'm posting on here until the thread derailer has stopped. I will return when the coast is clear.

A 37-year-old ICU nurse named Alex Pretti helped a woman that federal agents had shoved. For this crime—helping someone—several agents sprayed pepper spray into his face. Then they beat him until he collapsed. They pistol whipped him while he was on his knees. Both hands on the ground. Not resisting. Just existing
They took his gun from his back waistband—he never touched it—but he had a legal permit to carry. The Second Amendment one. The constitutional right one
And then they shot him
After he was already down, already gone, they shot him nine more times. Nine. I want you to picture that. A man on the ground, motionless, and nine more bullets.

How are they in a process of decolonisation?

Every article that I see online says that commonwealth countries want to get free of British rule, but have not been able to do so yet.

What have the British done to actively help to decolonise anywhere?

If you want to start a thread on decolonisation and whether it was a voluntary process and the legacy that remains today, you should do so.

However the fact remains that none of it justifies ICE shooting someone in the street yesterday. And that’s the topic of this thread.

PrincessofWells · 25/01/2026 10:02

Yes it's horrific. By any measure it's unjustifiable. Even if he was fighting the agents off there were at least 6 of them. They could easily have cuffed him . . .

The topic of the threads on here always evolves into discussion about other similiar things. There is no need to start a new thread about it.

Thanks

Poor man. The victim in this case. Human behaviour is interesting.

I feel that I wouldn't go and protest against armed men as it's so dangerous, however I am not living in a city where armed masked men are constantly walking around. If I was, I might feel like I would do anything to protest against them

There is a difference between conversation evolving and intentional derailing of a thread.

Speaking of British hypocrisy, in my workplace last week one of the English women was saying how terrible Trump is - for wanting to invade Greenland.

We all looked at her.

One of the other non English women that I work with, then said

"But what about all the countries that England invaded? There are so many!"

So by that logic, we would be hypocritical for trying to stop or call out rapes and rapists, because the one in your town (and others that were perpetrated in the past, before we were born) already happened?

People use the word 'derailing' when its something that they don't like to read.

In this instance, people don't want to hear about the atrocities that the U.K. committed

So 'derailing' is a controlling word, and I don't listen to the word 'derailing'

So did you live in Northern Ireland as well, quite the global nomad aren't you!

Yes I have lived in Northern Ireland, for two years.

Have you not lived anywhere outside your home town? Why is that then?

Everyone I know - has lived in different countries. My best friend growing up, moved to Australia to be a nurse. One of my other friends is living in Canada.

I am laughing at you - who thinks that living in different countries - is a bad thing!
What a small town mentality.

"Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says agents fired "defensive shots" after Pretti "reacted violently","

The man was on his knees, pepper sprayed and being kicked in the face by government agents when the first shot was fired. Why do the American government think people will believe their lies?

ChurchWindows · 25/01/2026 10:40

"The killing comes less than three weeks after American citizen Renee Good was shot dead by an immigration agent in the city"

Two American citizens shot dead by their own government in a month.
How long will Americans put up with this?

Because a significant percentage of them seem to. Sadly.

But the same thing has happened so many times before.

People abuse their power, and then lie about it.

When the British army murdered loads of people on Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland, they said that they were 'defending themselves'.

However, many eyewitness accounts said - that the people that they murdered were unarmed and were running away

Please start a thread about colonialism and the atrocities that the UK committed. I suspect many of us will be very happy to contribute.

So, do you have any feelings at all about the young man who was murdered by government sanctioned thugs in broad daylight on a street in Minneapolis? Because (checking title) it's the subject of this thread. You don't seem to have addressed that.

Relevance:

UK Posters saying the USA is really unsafe and no one should go there

Me - pointing out that the UK is also unsafe, and that I was also warned not to move to the UK before I moved here, as people were afraid for my safety.

Stupid and irrelevant. Posters are saying the US is unsafe because federal agents carrying guns are murdering civilians. Obviously the UK and US and many many other countries also have rapists. It’s a false equivalence.
