Another person murdered by ICE

I’m in tears and shock at the brutality happening in broad daylight in the US. I’m a US citizen, emigrated to the UK for family reasons 12 years ago (now dual citizen), and I am just in disbelief at what’s happening. I was sick when I learned of Trump’s first election and gravely disappointed by the second one. But the sheer brutality of what’s happening in MN right now has really thrown me. I have friends and family there, in Chicago (where ICE raids were occurring in the autumn), in NY, and in California. I’m hearing that even worse things are happening in the Deep South but fewer observers and press to report on it. Posting here because I feel so lost.

Deporting illegal immigrants is nothing like the nazis

It's such a shame MN got rid of the laugh emoji. Maybe they could introduce a bullshit emoji . . .

We’d need an absolutely massive one!

I'm not naive Risingtramp, you are. You act like this has never happened before.

I'm Irish. I have been brought up hearing about innocent Irish protestors being murdered by the British army. The British army were supported by the British government. No one has ever been charged for the murders.

ICE are supported by the US government. They have not been charged for ICE murders

Your posts don't surprise me though. The hypocrisy of some British people is astounding at times.

Wait, I was hoping we could discuss the battle of Hastings. I think it’s pretty disgusting that you haven’t mentioned that yet already in fact.

simpsonthecat · 25/01/2026 08:57

You are hilarious and desperate! You bring up a crime in the UK, history of us invading countries, the Irish troubles, and a completely irrelevant holiday you had in the US....anything, just anything to divert away from what this Administration are doing.

It is quite funny actually 😅

It has actually made me smile a little!

RisingTramp · 25/01/2026 09:31

malinta · 25/01/2026 09:17

Pointing out that the UK has also invaded many countries?

Of course it was

You should start a thread on this, you obviously feel incredibly strongly. But wait… that wouldn’t follow the obfuscate / derail script, would it. Good girl.

The battle of Hastings was in 1066.

The main part of the conflict in Northern Ireland went on until 1998, though some conflict still goes on to the current day.

Did you study History in school? Did you study Northern Ireland?

Again your response is quite prodictable, as many people that I have spoken to in England about the Northern Ireland conflict, know extremely little about it.

They think it was a long time ago, when it is very recent

Your history books are totally white washed

You are smiling at murder in Northern Ireland?

Woh. Woh.

simpsonthecat · 25/01/2026 09:34

I see your reaction deflects and takes zero accountability for what the U.K. have done in the past.

Yep. That's because I read what a thread title is before I comment. Another person murdered by ICE
If you wish to talk about what the UK has done historically, feel free to start a thread.
Call me disgusting if you so wish, you are not posting in good faith.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 25/01/2026 09:34

Speaking of British hypocrisy, in my workplace last week one of the English women was saying how terrible Trump is - for wanting to invade Greenland

thats not hypocritical unless that person was saying that it was absolutely fine for us to invade places both now and in the past

PrincessofWells · 25/01/2026 09:35

It's extremely worrying when the Rule of Law is consistently being broken by a country with whom we have close economic and social ties and it's irrelevant to which political party the perpetrators belong. Once the R of L is broken, anarchy rules and society breaks down. Unless the politicians of the US start standing up for the law it's going to degenerate into a rogue state, and it's well on the way to that already.
Trump needs taking out very quickly.

It is not in the past.

a lot of the commonwealth countries still want to get free of British rule

"Numerous leaders of Commonwealth countries have spoken out following the Coronation, saying they hope to become republics — free from the rule of King Charles III."

I said a process of decolonisation. Britian isn’t talking about colonising new countries today

Look I’m Irish too I’m not here to defend colonialism or the actions of the British empire.

But British actions does not excuse American actions now. It doesn’t make what the US does ok.

And British people have as much right as anyone else to give out about it.

How are they in a process of decolonisation?

Every article that I see online says that commonwealth countries want to get free of British rule, but have not been able to do so yet.

What have the British done to actively help to decolonise anywhere?

There you go, it’s a pattern to derail isn’t it. You post misleading, irrelevant comments, and then go round and round in circles. You must be feeling dizzy. You carry on, we’ll be over here talking about the subject of the thread.

I posted a serious comment about the suffering iNorthern Ireland. About how many innocent people were murdered,

The reactions I got were 'i'm smiling at this comment'

the actions of the english in invading and colonising other countries and in their treatment of those countries has been shameful

No. You whitewashed the history books. I won't let you whitewash mumsnet.

I am sick to death of British people saying how bad other countries are, and then refusing to even acknowledge any of the hurt, pain, and suffering that the U.K caused other countries

As has the actions of the Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and other Europeans. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread. Do start your own though . . .

simpsonthecat · 25/01/2026 09:48

Yep, everyone on this thread is disgusting. Apart from you of course.

Anyway, back to the subject of the thread

How DARE Noem say that showing up with a gun should be grounds for a person's murder. When Kyle Rittenhouse crossed state lines with an AR-15 and murdered two protesters. And got off scot free.

PrincessofWells · 25/01/2026 09:49

I cannot imagine how his parents must be feeling. He seemed an upstanding US citizen helping veterans.

I am allowed to respond to a poster even if it is ‘nothing to do with this thread’ other posters have also done so

well that makes no sense in a country that seems proud of their right to carry guns 😳

I know it probably sounds crass, but he had such a kind face. And his last action was helping somebody else.
