Who would you want to replace Prue now she is retiring from GBBO

Rictasmorticia · 21/01/2026 18:01

Are there any chefs/cooks that you think would be a good replacement now she has decided to retire? I can’t think of any of the current to chefs who could do it.

Nadiya would be great.
But am a bit over BO now. Think maybe it’s run its course.

Vax · 22/01/2026 08:43

I can’t believe they want Nigella. I can’t stand her after the stuff about her a few years ago. Utterly despicable.

BIWI · 22/01/2026 08:51

What stuff @Vax?

What did she do?

Starlight1979 · 22/01/2026 09:35

I love Nigella but really doubt she'd do it. She's already very high profile... I think Nadiya or another of the (older) female contestants maybe 🤔

BIWI · 22/01/2026 09:41

Very strong rumours it’s going to be her - if you Google, you’ll see threads by all the major media outlets - contract negotiations in the final stages, apparently.

I heard that on GMB earlier, i don't think she will bring much to it tbh.

BIWI · 22/01/2026 11:20

Why not?

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 22/01/2026 11:22

Mary Berry was a home economist by training and Nigella is a cook, not a chef. I think it makes sense not to have a catering professional alongside Paul, who is just that.

The whole point of the judges is that they are professionals/professionally trained in some way. Thats why Mary and Prue were perfect

I love Nigella and think it would be great, but yes she is a home cook, a good one nevertheless

Delia is trained of course

I dont want to see another man alongside Paul.

OllyBJolly · 22/01/2026 11:38

I like Nigella but I don't think she's a baker. I see her more as a personality who happens to cook and makes for a very engaging programme. I can't see that there would be any chemistry between her and Paul, and also not sure how she fits with the other two non baker presenters.

I think that would be a mistake for Nigella and for the programmers.

Having said all that, I don't watch it anymore. For me it lost its sparkle several series ago.

I agree, which is why a previous winner would be a big mistake IMO

Moonmelodies · 22/01/2026 12:26

How about Gordon Ramsay to spice the show up with some F-bombs?
Or Tilly?

I disagree. Delia has famously always said she is not a chef. She's a home economist.

I think a balance between a trained professional and someone with more of a home baking/cooking slant is the key.

Do you mean the drugs stuff? She lost her mum, sister and husband to cancer then was in an abusive relationship with Saatchi, I'm not aware of anything she did that was "despicable"given what she'd been through.

She is a well established food critic, has strong experience in the judging role, and was a huge part of the new wave of baking that created the climate for Bake Off to flourish. Caroline Waldegrave was impeccably trained but didn't have the presence to carry the judging role. Nigella will do just fine.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 22/01/2026 12:52

If we aren’t stuck on there being one male/one female I would love to see Si King as the second judge.

I think he’s too similar to Paul. We definitely dont need to have a woman for balance though

LongtimeLurker2 · 22/01/2026 13:14

Please not John Whaite, awful man, awful presenter!

I vote Nigella!!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 22/01/2026 13:19

Definitely not John Whaite attention seeking idiot
I would love to see Nancy back with "the male judge " 🤣
Much as I love Nigella I don't think she's the right fit for the role

Yes Im waiting for the poster to come with what exactly she did that was despicable.

I dont recall her killing any kittens for example

soupyspoon · 22/01/2026 13:37

Ive had to look up who this John Waite is as you're all banging on about him, I dont even remember him!!!

Havent seen or heard of him since the series. I vaguely recognise his face

Advocodo · 22/01/2026 13:40

Nigella Lawson.

NewAgeNewMe · 22/01/2026 13:42

havent watched properly since it went to Channel 4. PH needed mary imo. Think it will be a mistake for Nigella but delia would be good if she’d do it.

SarahAndQuack · 22/01/2026 13:54

I'd love to see the back of Paul Hollywood. I really hate how pleased with himself he is - and he's clearly ruined his palate; nothing's ever salty enough.

I thought Mary worked really well with him, because although she has lovely old-fashioned manners they somehow worked to keep him in check and he didn't come across as so sexist/patronising because she drew out some grudging awareness he ought to be respectful to her.

Prue also works because she is quite sparky and gives the strong sense she wouldn't suffer fools.

But I think Nigella's flirty thing, much as I enjoy it on her, would be cringey if partnered with PH.
