Who would you want to replace Prue now she is retiring from GBBO

Are there any chefs/cooks that you think would be a good replacement now she has decided to retire? I can’t think of any of the current to chefs who could do it.

OP posts:

Delia would be the obvious choice IMHO, but I doubt it’ll be her. I think Nancy would be a GREAT choice. But honestly? I think the show has had its day. Once it switched to C4 I never really watched it much. Missed Mel & Sue, and of course Mary. Never warmed to Prue, and have never had any time for that sleazebag Paul.

SweetBaklava · 21/01/2026 23:18

John Whaite gave up TV and won’t be back, he said as much a few years ago. Very much focussed on his mail order brownie business.

I thought about Nigella Lawson.

Is she still working in the UK

I hope it’s not Nadiya. She was so out of order when her BBC shows ended, blaming racism. She had zero grace to acknowledge how many great opportunities she’d already been given.
C4 will probably pick a suitably woke candidate.

justasking111 · 21/01/2026 23:23

Some of the press are saying that it's Nigella. DH will be delighted ☺️

KnickerlessParsons · 21/01/2026 23:24

What about the lady that does Junior Bake-off? Rav someone.

Nancy Birtwhistle. She was a great contestant and I think she would be fair to everyone.
Books are great too, as are her recipes, they always work.

Nancy would be fantastic. Great credibility as a previous winner and with her post win career.
Also a woman of a certain age, to represent the vast majority of home bakers.
Not a hope C4 will pick her.

I would like to see the production company use it as a reset too.

Back to proper baking. No more beehives made of 15 kg of chocolate, 15 layer pies, 34 layer desserts and pictures made of biscuits flavoured with 99 spices.

Do we still need PH? Is he just a stereotype now?

I know that I’m probably in a minority and an old bore, but could it focus on the baking skills, not whether the other presenters are funny or really good at spotting obvious innuendo.

When it first moved to C4, there was a good mix of humour and baking, seemingly supporting the bakers as stars of the show, now the bakers seem like supporting cast for the presenters who are just inane; a shame as they are both lovely people.

What changes would you like to see alongside a new presenter?

Would support all of your suggestions. This last series was unrecognisable from the original brief.

Delia

Front page of the Sun says it is Nigella!

Front page of the Sun says it is Nigella!

My mum made chocolate Guinness cake every Christmas. Everyone loved it.

Moonmelodies · 22/01/2026 07:20

Rustie Lee.

SparklyGlitterballs · 22/01/2026 07:23

Daily Fail also saying Nigella is the next judge.

SnacklessWonder · 22/01/2026 07:25

Excellent - I'd probably return to watching if it is Nigella. Wasn't a fan of Prue.

SyntheticFluff · 22/01/2026 07:42

I'd be amazed if Nigella Lawson has actually signed up for it.

Wry smile at the post above about John Whaite saying he's done with tv; more like he's cooked his goose with hard-core porn on his OnlyFans and twitter account.

Rustie Lee.

I love Rustie Lee. Disappointed if it is Nigella, she makes me cringe.

Need someone with a bit of humour, Rachel Allen seems to po faced for me

What about Greg Wallace, he needs a job?

😆

Cazzovuoi · 22/01/2026 07:51

I’d vote for Nigella or Rachel Khoo

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 22/01/2026 07:55

CalmShaker · 21/01/2026 20:12

Surely you want someone with character, charisma and wit then the autocue generics that's been suggested.
I'd vote for Caroline Quentin

If she or Gregg Wallace gets the job I'll have to stop watching.

Moonmelodies · 22/01/2026 07:57

What is Ainsley up to these days 🤔

Thirdchildjoy · 22/01/2026 07:57

I'd go with Ravneet Gill. She's been a Judge for the junior bake off and is a great pasty chef.

Thirdchildjoy · 22/01/2026 08:03

I do understand though for these types of roles they are legally obligated to offer the role to Holly Willoughby first.

Didn't JW end up in hospital recently following a serious accident?

I don't know i haven't really heard anything about him since he brought his book out.

Google is telling me he was run over by a car a few weeks ago 😮

Butteredtoast55 · 22/01/2026 08:33

soupyspoon · 21/01/2026 20:46

Why did she call him the male judge?

She was playfully being slightly dismissive of him, puncturing his sense of self importance, which would be a very welcome change from the fawning sycophancy and the contestants who practically fall to their knees in stunned gratitude at a 'Hollywood handshake'.
I'd like back to basics too and for the challenges to produce food that the people watching will really want to cook, although I got criticised for saying that on a thread last year! I used to really like the food history inserts, and I'd be happy if the casting was a bit more focused on baking and less on marketing. I have a friend who tried out and only got so far in auditions because she wasn't sufficiently media savvy and wasn't interested in promoting herself or social media. Surely they can build that profile once someone has made it - I don't think Nadiya was particularly out there on SM but she certainly didn't hold back once she won.
I'd also ban matcha and pistachio next year as they were ubiquitous last year - sometimes you just want a beautifully produced coffee cake rather than a matcha latte four tiered monstrosity that would never get finished.

BIWI · 22/01/2026 08:37

Maybe it’s time to get rid of Paul Hollywood as well?
