A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I've never been sure about joining a political party. Does the obligation stop at handing your money over each month and voting on party matters or are you pressured to be sociable, hand out leaflets and knock on doors?

Edited

It’s my first time ever joining a party, I have no idea of what’s going to happen tbh.

My constituency is very Labour/Lib Dem, i don’t think I will change things at the local level, I ll probably attend a local meeting and if it feels friendly enough, I will maybe volunteer, will see.

But I wanted to do more than watch from the sidelines, KB is the ballsiest political leader around, she’s walking a very tight rope considering the mess she inherited and she’s doing it well, I wanted to give her a clear signal that it’s working. At least on me.

I m foreign-born but I am shocked and outraged at how the local population and their concerns about immigration and integration have been vilified by the middle class left (same in my native EU country), the Left is making Farage happen.

Reform will always be a Farage thing, he has too much ego to stand competition, he is no policy maker or manager or statesman and he would do anything Trump or the Russians tell him to. But his voters deserve a lot more respect, recognition and empathy than being called oiks or gammons etc.

I have utter contempt for the Bullingdon set, from Brexit to Covid, pretty much useless and self-serving bunch of arrogant chancers with a plum accent, they never had the guts or the insight to go against the multicultural, open borders trend emanating from the left even in opposition.

But KB is getting it and she has the guts to say it out loud.

And I love the fact she is a black woman of foreign origin, she is showing the left right in their faces that it’s about culture, not colour and that identity politics doesn’t work and is actually based on demeaning stereotypes.

Go Kemi!

Januaryescape · 16/01/2026 10:35

Just honestly the take down of that awful budget and the run up to it was so on point, it gave me some hope that we wouldn’t be this screwed forever.

You don't have to do all that, and there's no pressure. You get loads of emails though. I have done leaflet dropping etc a few years ago. It was nice to meet other conservatives in my area. We are a rare breed round these parts.

I rejoined yesterday (after my flounce 😂) to show Kemi some support. I love the idea by a pp of buying Kemi a coffee or a monster before PMQs.👌

Yeah, I think there is going to have to be a point where I put my money where my mouth is.

EasternStandard · 16/01/2026 10:52

It’s the first time I’ve joined too @inkognithaand it’s due to Kemi.

Think she’s ace, love to see her as PM.

@TheNuthatchI’m in London and rare here too, I might join in more. Would be a laugh if bumped into someone I knew round here who did the same

Osborne was saying on political currency that Starmer had boxed himself in yet again opposing the SM ban.

Yes he has, and now he looks stupid....again.
I haven't listened to Ed and George yet. I'll try and catch it later.

I didn’t realise he had done that, I wonder why.

Kemi had some one in her corner this morning, a very sad story and the parents taking class action in the states.

Januaryescape · 16/01/2026 12:26

We should’ve banned social media ages ago - dds friends have all been damaged by it in some way - I don’t have boys but I’m sure it’s the same story there.

they think it might’ve been a condition for the US trade deal re social media…

A win for all women in the Darlington nurse case today

Let’s hope that means the withheld guidance by Labour now moves forward !

Time to stop the misogynistic policies Starmer

EasternStandard · 16/01/2026 12:30

@DrPrunesqualerthat’s fantastic just looked to see

She added: “Women deserve access to single-sex spaces without fear or intimidation. Forcing us to undress in front of a man was not only degrading but dangerous.

“Today’s ruling sends a clear message: the NHS cannot ignore women’s rights in the name of ideology. We stood up because we knew this was wrong. No woman should be forced to choose between her job and her safety.

“This ruling is a turning point, and we will keep fighting until every woman in the NHS is guaranteed the dignity and protection she deserves.”

Sandie Peggie having to fight her case again is a disgrace

Labour have to do something now!!

Hear hear.
Philipson is dragging her useless feet on this. She's obviously waiting for an excuse to water it down.

Yes, let's hope this ruling holds her feet to the fire.

The Darlington nurses have been incredible over the course of this ridiculous charade. That one felt compelled to disclose her childhood sexual abuse to demonstrate the harm done to women should have been completely unnecessary - it's totally bloody obvious why men shouldn't be in women's single sex spaces - that's why we have them.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 16/01/2026 15:29

“Women deserve access to single-sex spaces without fear or intimidation. Forcing us to undress in front of a man was not only degrading but dangerous."

In its initial report the BBC changed the nurse’s words. They replaced ‘man’ with ‘transgender colleagues’. It’s been fixed now after lots of women complained but that is utterly shameless from the BBC; they have learned nothing.

ETA: Can’t wait to see Streeting’s and Phillipson’s comments congratulating the nurses 🙄

Great to hear! I have noticed from reading your posts we very often think the along the same ways 😊

peacefulpeach · 16/01/2026 16:25

A long time ago I was a member of the Labour Party (northern, working class background, red wall, brought up hating thatcher and the Tories, first vote Tony Blair , blah blah - so many of us!!).

But they bombarded me with so much post and campaigning crap, I got annoyed. Then Corbyn JC (👀), cancelled the membership and the loyalty. Still didn’t vote Tory, I couldn’t make my pen tick that box. Years of conditioning!

Haven’t voted for years. Have never voted Conservative before.

I will 💯 % vote for the Conservatives next time. I love KB hope she stays in place.

And clearly inaccurate. Trans-men can access the women's single sex facilities. The BBC are on thin ice with misreporting, you'd think they'd try a bit harder.

strawberrybubblegum · 16/01/2026 17:21

Which BBC report (ie when) had that misreporting of the nurse? Was it after the Trump misreporting scandal?!?

O.M.G. I despair. I wonder whether the BBC is even worth saving.

EmeraldRoulette · 16/01/2026 17:42

@strawberrybubblegum I dumped the BBC nearly 6 years ago now. I have no interest in saving it, I think it should be subscription based

great news about the Darlington nurses though it still horrifies me that anyone has to go through this

I know this is yesterday's news, but I saw the Reform presser when it had already started with Jenrick speaking. Does anyone have any clips of the beginning when he was late? I'm just curious to see it as apparently people thought Nigel was looking rather worried.

I actually would just move on now - I realise Kemi has to answer questions about it, but I would certainly have omitted a couple of her social media posts. It looks like she's declaring war on Reform (in comms terms).

The whole thing is fascinating if you've ever had to do any PR strategy. Again maybe I'm just a weirdo with what I'm interested in 😂
