A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I think that Jenrick wanting to defect to Reform actually shows that Kemi's position in the party is strengthening, and he thought it's would be easier to join Reform, rather than try a leadership challenge.

Kemi has been getting more support in polls, not many other leaders have.

Anyone know what Dominic Cummings is doing these days?

He appeared in a 2 part interview with Michael Gove on the “Quite Right” podcast over Christmas.

I confess I only listened to the first part!

EmeraldRoulette · 15/01/2026 16:58

OMG This is blistering by Jenrick.

and I agree with a lot of it.

<all the swear words>

EmeraldRoulette · 15/01/2026 17:00

Actually it's Prime Ministerial which is what Farage wanted.

Ex Labour voters definitely don’t move to Reform according to the Labour supporter dregs .. not what this research shows.. 🙊

I was brought up in a very working class, impoverished red wall town. I still visit family there.

It should be Labour, it used to be Labour but Blairs Labour and worse still Starmers Labour just dont chime with them. Labour know nothing about their lives, and people feel Labour dont actually care either

It wouldn't surprise me if they have a Reform MP come the next general election. These people aren't stupid they know Reform also probably care little, but they are desperate for change.

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2026 17:12

Will this news about Robert Jenrick MP mean that Newark has to have a by election soon ? How does that work ? Or can they leave it ?
Nigel Farage said that a labour MP may also join reform ? Does anyone know who that may be ?

No, it shouldn't trigger a by election. I have no idea who the Labour defector might be. It might not be any of them but now they'll all be side eyeing each and bitching about each other. 😁

Nah, Farage doesn’t want a threat to his own position. I’m going to enjoy watching to see how long it takes for Jenrick to start positioning himself to take over Reform!

Odious toads, the pair of them.

InterestQ · 15/01/2026 18:17

I had thought last year that Jenrick and Cleverly were happy to let Kemi carry the can in opposition til a bit before the next GE, then get her out and run as a team as Leader and shadow chancellor.

Since then Kemi has got much MUCH better in PMQs so I reckon she will get to stay. I can’t imagine myself voting Reform quite honestly, and if Kemi can keep going rebuilding faith in a centrist main party then I can vote Conservative next time.

CaveMum · 15/01/2026 18:38

I see George and Ed are on the same train of thought as me!

I actually quite like Jenrick. I should theoretically be a shoo-in Reform voter based on my recent immigration views, but they just don't hit the spot for me, mostly due to my mistrust that they'd handle the economy well.
Also they'd be less than useless where I live, whereas the Tories have a good track record and align with my local concerns.

Mahmood would be the best fit policy wise but somehow I doubt it ;

No idea who, but quite amusing if it goes ahead.

redange · 15/01/2026 19:17

Labour Defection to Reform my guess is Penrith MP !

Markus Campbell Savours. ?

The other possible one was 'Graham Stringer ' though unlikely because he is a 'proper' Labour Loyalist from a boy to the grave..

This week's FON polling

Real thing later this evening. Just a York City council by-election. Nevertheless every ballot counts - when elections aren’t cancelled of course.

Heworth Ward. 3 cllrs for the ward, just one vacancy to be filled in the by-election.

Looks to traditionally be strongly Labour, electing 3 Labour councillors going back over several past local elections.

Last full local elections 2023. Labour 69% of votes cast. Greens 13%, Cons 10% Lib Dem’s 7.4%. Turnout 31.7%, so around the local election average.

2019 Labour won all 3 seats with 48% of vote. Then Greens 17%, Cons 16%, Lib Dem’s 13%, WEL 4.3, Soc Alt (????) 2%

6 candidates standing tonight - top 5 parties in the opinion poll plus an independent.

Might be an interesting result. Certainly the vote split will be. Weather probably won’t help turnout. See who’s most motivated.

Ooh yes, that will be interesting. Today's news coupled with the latest u turn could have an impact.

Karl Turner has launched a scathing attack on Starmer and Lammy.

I'm enjoying the knowledge that Labour will be panicking over who the defector is until Tuesday. 😁

MCS is a good shout.

If its an MP, surely it will be one of the many northerners who are set to lose their seat to Reform? Or maybe Lord Glasman. I have no idea why/how he is Labour anyway.

It will probably be a complete nobody we've never heard of, who fancies some time in the spotlight 😂

Glasman is the same as Mahmood really. Not Labour particularly.

I don't understand blue Labour Eastern. Baffles me why they don't just join the tories and leave the lefty headbangers to it.

EmeraldRoulette · 15/01/2026 20:58

How is Mahmood not Labour?

I suspect Glasman is one of those people who has a sense of loyalty and just feels that he's always been on the left - but things have changed so much, it seems like an oddity for him to be Labour.

today has been fascinating. Perhaps it's just my strange state of mind but it's just been really interesting to watch this play out. Normally, I would say "meh - politicians". This does feel seismic though i'm not sure if I would've really cared say 10 years ago.

What’s the difference between Mahmood and Glasman policy beliefs?
