Yellow-Coldplay, my eldest was born then and my late dp used to sing it to him

Blackcountryexile · 12/01/2026 13:12

The Best Day Taylor Swift

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants
Now adult DS loved it when he was little and I'd dance him around to it. It's a great track and I smile and think of DS whenever I hear it.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 12/01/2026 13:14

If I was looking for a song for a sideshow about them, I would use wonderful world by Louis Armstrong or beautiful boy by john lennon

sprigatito · 12/01/2026 13:15

The Whole Of The Moon by the Waterboys.

schnubbins · 12/01/2026 13:16

I Hope You Dance Lee Anne Womack

Danikm151 · 12/01/2026 13:17

Zoo- Shakira.

my son loves it and he turns the floor into a complete mess 🤣

Kirbert2 · 12/01/2026 13:22

If I wanted to avoid slushy then Imagine Dragons as my son loves them so much and we're always singing Believer, Demons etc together.

Daft Punk - Get Lucky

It was the start of them moving away from only wanting nursery rhymes on in the car and they misheard the lyrics. “Roll up the Mexican lucky” would be sung from the back seat.(They’re 17 & 16 now and sometimes still sing those lyrics as they know it will make me laugh.)

Theredjellybean · 12/01/2026 13:36

Landslide by Stevie Nicks .

It's a bit slushy but also empowering .

The Whole Of The Moon by the Waterboys.

Mum, that you?! That’s our family song 😁

For my own kids it is, weirdly enough, Surrender by Cheap Trick. They were obsessed with it for a long time so will always remind me of them!

The Cave by Munford and Sons. We used to call it the 'bouncy song' and I would play it in the kitchen, whilst they all bounced around being nutters..I have a video of them aged 2, 3 and 5 all together dancing like mad men. At one point the youngest one toddles off and my eldest runs off to fetch her back and they all hold hands in a circle whirling round..one of my fondest memories.

"My Girl" by the Temptations (which also worked as "my boy" for ds)

I got sunshine
On a cloudy day
When it's cold outside
I got the month of May
I guess you'd say
What can make you feel that way?
My girl, talking 'bout my girl...

Just takes me right back to holding them as babies and singing that to them... ☺️

DierdreDaphne · 12/01/2026 13:46

(it's probably a bit slushy though 😁)

Smartboardnovice · 12/01/2026 13:49

Kooks by David Bowie. We always told them it was our parenting manual.

Londondreamer · 12/01/2026 13:58

Feel my love by Adele

PermanentTemporary · 12/01/2026 13:59

Lovely thread. Sadly we don’t have a song, wish we did.

Gazelda · 12/01/2026 14:05

1000 miles. Vanessa Carlton.
not anything to do with the lyrics, but my DD rolls her eyes as soon as the first note comes on the radio because she knows I melt with love for her whenever I hear it.

toomuchcrapeverywhere · 12/01/2026 14:06

“If I had words.” The theme from the film Babe. DD1 was seriously ill when she was little and obsessed with the film.

DD2 was”You Are My Sunshine.” My DM used to sing it to her.

Rocknrollstar · 12/01/2026 14:09

Come on, Eileen. It was on every morning as we were having breakfast and we would always dance to it.

RickAstleyRollerskates · 12/01/2026 14:12

Rasputin by Bony M 😁

They've recently discovered it and were doing Cossack dancing to it in the lounge over Xmas. Love how goofy they get when it comes on 😂😍

I have mushy ones of course but this one makes me chuckle

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 12/01/2026 14:25

Tongues and Teeth by The Crane Wives.

For no other reason than that they're her favourite band and when I took her to one of their gigs last year, the look of utter joy on her face when this song started will be eternally etched into my brain.

And I know you said only one but also "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters, because it consistently made her laugh her head off as a baby. There's a bit where it goes really quiet before kicking off again, and she'd jump out of her skin when it kicked off, and then laugh hilariously. Happened consistently for about six months

OutOfVecnasReach · 12/01/2026 14:31

Babushka by Kate Bush 😂 ds1&2 think it’s hilarious after hearing it on the radio in the car. They make me put it on and dance/strut around the kitchen to it in hysterics
