If you had to pick a song and only one that made you think of your kids, what would it be ?

I like to move it by Reel 2 Reel. They were obsessed with watching Madagascar and would wind this back from the end titles over and over.... and over. It still makes me smile hearing it. Good times.

Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon.
I have endless videos of them dancing and singing at the top of their voices 🥰

1000 miles. Vanessa Carlton.
not anything to do with the lyrics, but my DD rolls her eyes as soon as the first note comes on the radio because she knows I melt with love for her whenever I hear it.

All of I can think of is the wonderful Terry Crews whenever I hear this 😂

MayaPinion · 12/01/2026 20:33

Uprising by Muse. My DD absolutely loved it when she was little and we played it on a loop. She’s now at uni doing politics 🤪

cobrakaieaglefang · 12/01/2026 20:36

The one and only , Chesney Hawkes..😂 we sung it in the car.

MrsSPenguins · 12/01/2026 20:38

DD - I'll sleep when I'm dead as she's so full of life. Or Thunderstuck AC/DC for her gymnastics / cheerleading moves.
DS - My Favourite Waste of Time as he found that song hilarious and he loves wasting time, opposite of DD.

Spicycroissant · 12/01/2026 20:38

the one by the black eyed peas that goes “shut up just shut up shut up”

just kidding.

for me it’s “here comes the sun” by the Beatles. My dad used to sing it all the time when I was growing up and now I sing it to my dc too and it makes me feel so much joy

pottymouth40 · 12/01/2026 20:39

Canned heat - Jamiroquai bc of the film Napolean Dynamite 😂

Redcabbagefarts · 12/01/2026 20:40

Truly scrumptious. I know

mrstambourinewoman · 12/01/2026 20:42

White winter hymnal ❄️🧣

Timeforatincture · 12/01/2026 20:43

We used to sing Flanders & Swan and Tom Lehrer in the car, so maybe Mud, or Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.

ladygindiva · 12/01/2026 20:44

Three Babies by Sinead O' connor. Imo the most beautiful song ever.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 12/01/2026 20:44

Kokomo - Beach Boys

MrsMitford3 · 12/01/2026 20:46

We used to play Desert Island Discs in the car-everyone would choose their songs and say why.

DS1 said he'd have "Stand by Me" for us and it's perfect

TheaBrandt1 · 12/01/2026 20:48

Ive been pretty ok about dds growing up and one has left for university and I was fine and thrilled for her. Until the song Lucky by Britney randomly came on a song shuffle. Immediately found myself sobbing my two aged about 2 and 4 this was their favourite song to do dance routines to and they used to get the lyrics wrong. It’s a daft song but hearing it again absolutely poleaxed me.

RenoDakota · 12/01/2026 20:48

Same as a pp, The Cave by Mumford and Sons. My children were eight and six when it came out and we all loved it, and played it and sang along to it in the car all the time.
We still go 'awww' when we hear it occasionally now. They are 24 and 22 now.

Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas always gets me emotional for my firecracker youngest

This makes me think of my eldest and only him. We went to America when he was 6 and they play all the old rock songs on the radio constantly there. This came on and Ds started singing along and knew every single word. I’d never even heard it before. Dh (ds’s stepdad) and I were like “what the?” turns out his grandad on his df’s side played it in the car when running him to and from our house to theirs.

I remember thinking “how did I get so lucky to have such a cool kid”? He’s still very cool now he’s 26 😎

This is what I was going to say. DS loved it when he was small. So many parties and kitchen discos. He's a strapping teen now but still sings along of it comes.on the radio.

Mumford and sons I will wait. I waited a long time and had many losses before I was able to have a baby that survived. It healed me.

Ineedanewsofa · 12/01/2026 20:55

Slushy = To Me by Jake Etheridge
Non Slushy = Shake It Off by Taylor Swift aka the pig song from Sing!
DC was obsessed with that film and that song, watched it every few days for months. Still a Swiftie all these years later…

Itsnaptime · 12/01/2026 21:12

I knew I loved you before I met you by savage garden. My dad sung it to me and now I do the same to my kids

JimbosJetSet · 12/01/2026 21:21

Kooks, David bowie

That reminds me of my parents 🥹

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 12/01/2026 21:46

Dd-You are my sunshine.
Ds-Spaceman. I remember it being on the tannoy in a very empty supermarket and we sang along in a silly voice spinning the trolley they were in around.

Tillow4ever · 12/01/2026 21:53

Before I read the other answers I was thinking “You drive me crazy”…. Although not really the lyrics beyond that! I do have 3 boys though.

Individually, “So What” by Pink for my eldest as I remember him as a toddler putting my heels on and dancing and singing it in our kitchen and properly belting out “I am a rockstar”. Every time I hear it it takes me back.

Middle son - “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga as he bloody loved that song!

Youngest son - “Toublemaker” by Olly Murrs. He was less than a year old when it was released, but he would stop whatever he was doing and dance to that the moment it came on. He’d try to sing along (mostly a babble) too. He enjoyed “Candy” by Robbie Williams which I think was put at the same time.
