If you had to pick a song and only one that made you think of your kids, what would it be ?

Millionaire by Dr Hook. .. The worst years of my life fighting exh for equal custody. Driving the 500 miles every week to adhere to the court order.... We all sang along. . Dc now in their 20's and still know all the words..

BruisedNeckMeat · 12/01/2026 14:35

Reach For The Stars by S Club 7! We used to have a dance to it when the kids were little 😭

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 12/01/2026 14:38

Aw what a lovely thread 😍

Myswweetchild · 12/01/2026 14:41

If I Ain't Got You - Alicia Keys ❤️

Thingsthatgo · 12/01/2026 14:42

The Bare Necessities. We dance around the kitchen singing it when they were little.

ChangeIsDue · 12/01/2026 14:43

Born to Love you. Instead of singing “I am the one for you, You are the man for me,”, we have “You are the boy for me, I am the mum for you”. I’m not birth mum, but I am legal mum and so far as DS is concerned, I am “normal mum” and so it works. It’s always felt as if it worked.

PollyPeep · 12/01/2026 14:44

The Hey Duggee theme tune 😆

Fends · 12/01/2026 14:44

Isn’t she (he) lovely

It’s All About You - McFly

SirChenjins · 12/01/2026 14:50

California Dreaming - we often used to play this in the car and do the different parts and harmonies which somehow never sounded as good as the Mama's and Papa's. Happy memories Smile

Minesril · 12/01/2026 14:52

The Weekend Whip from Ninjago

RightOnTheEdge · 12/01/2026 14:53

I always used to sing You Are My Sunshine to them when they were little.

Now though Fix You by Coldplay always makes me think of them, because I hope if they are ever sad or in trouble they will know that they can always come to me.

The Whole Of The Moon by the Waterboys.

That was my first thought - probably my favourite song.

I think I'd go for Paul Simon's Father and Daughter for the lines that begin "I'm going to watch you shine, going to watch you grow..." I sang it to her as a baby (swapping mother for father) and still do sometimes.

Either that or In the Bleak Midwinter which I had to sing every night at bedtime for 18 months.

Cappie73 · 12/01/2026 14:56

I don’t know what’s with me today, I’ve got all emotional reading all your posts ❤️

AliasGrape · 12/01/2026 14:56

Close to you - the Carpenters

There’s hundreds that make me think of her either because of the lyrics, or because it’s one we sing to/ dance to together (I mean right now it would probably be something from K-Pop Demon Hunters and I think ‘what it sounds like’ would be a good shout for a slide show actually).

But the above is one I’ve always sung to her at bedtime (one of several, bedtime takes a while still), and;

“On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue” …

.. makes me think of her. Not least because she sat up in all seriousness once at that bit and said ‘but mummy is that actually true that that happened?’ 😆

AllJoyAndNoFun · 12/01/2026 14:57

I'll Tell Me Ma by various. Ridiculous I know but they used to make me sing it all the time and change the words about it's "it's x she loves still" to wind each other up.

Pizdets · 12/01/2026 14:58

Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas always gets me emotional for my firecracker youngest

Redhairandhottubs · 12/01/2026 15:03

Dizzy Rascal, Bonkers! They used to live singing this in the car on the way home from days out.

You're the best thing by The Style Council

I was going to say ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ but I can see I’m an outlier 😂

Tongues and Teeth by The Crane Wives.

For no other reason than that they're her favourite band and when I took her to one of their gigs last year, the look of utter joy on her face when this song started will be eternally etched into my brain.

My girls love The Crane Wives, too! We went to a gig and it was such a lovely experience. I don’t think there’s just one song of theirs that would make me think of my daughters, but they are definitely the band that I would pick.

Beyoncé - Halo for dd2. I just remember having to take her to a special needs nursery for the first time, I found it really hard excepting that she is disabled and we need life time care, seeing her with other children like her was just hard (I guess I secretly hoped she wasn’t as disabled). I would stay with her for an hour to help her settle and then go sit in my car for 2 hours. One day I was feeling particularly down and Beyoncé - Halo came on the radio, I sat in my car sobbing listening to the words. Dd is my ray of light and I am so proud of her and how far she had come. Dd is almost 20 now and the song still makes me think of her and makes me feel emotional.

I am not sure I have a song for dd1, it would probably have to be Kings of Leon - your sex is on fire. Purely because dd was sure the song is called ‘your sax is on fire’ and that they are singing about some amazing saxophone playing. She’s now 21 and still laughs when the song comes on the radio.

Derpytiger · 12/01/2026 19:34

I can see I've got the wrong end of the stick here as I came here to say "the poo song".

Not just me then 🤣

Crazy Love by Van Morrison.

If it was just for DC1 it would be haven’t met you yet by Michael Buble, it was an unexpected pregnancy and I was quite young and terrified but that song used to calm me down.
