Anyone preparing for a lot of snow tomorrow?

We're in Leicestershire and it looks like we're due quite a bit.

And a red for Cornwall!

I’m in Leicester and DD is certainly hoping for lots of snow, enough to make going to school impossible, given we live a 10 min walk from school that will only be possible if they actually close it 😂 I’m not preparing in any way though. If it happens it happens, we have food and will just bunker down for the day.

I’m in the red zone but not coastal. I am glad I have some logs left over in case the power goes off. I’ve charged my phone so will now just sit tight! It’s already very gusty and it doesn’t really get going until 6pm!

Gosh hope you're OK. We have logs too luckily. Will sleep downstairs if we lose power.

Lashings of rain here (Cardiff) - can’t see it becoming snow it’s so, so wet. Currently soaking wet sat on a bus as the trains are in chaos!

Damnloginpopup · 08/01/2026 17:20

Stupid name again.

Yes looking too soggy for snow here too

We just had one of those government text alerts. Nearly jumped out of my skin!

NessShaness · 08/01/2026 17:36

Forecast heavy snow where I am from around 6pm, changing to blizzards at 9pm right through to tomorrow afternoon!

We have what we need to if the worst happens we’ll just hunker down for the day.

nondrinker1985 · 08/01/2026 17:36

We’ve been told here (Warwickshire) school closed but we have heavy rain…

Keepoffmyartichokes · 08/01/2026 17:36

My neighbours are on holiday in Falmouth, hoping they stay safe.

Meadowfinch · 08/01/2026 17:38

We have very heavy rain in North Hampshire but not expecting snow. It's 5 degrees here so the temperature will have to plummet for snow to settle.

PeonyPatch · 08/01/2026 17:40

torrential rain in London. It is very, very wet. But not THAT cold, and certainly not cold enough for snow.

Why is it stupid?

CeeJay81 · 08/01/2026 17:40

All schools closed in Powys. We are in the tiny bit of the county outside the Amber warning though, so probably just sleet here. We shall see. I work in the supermarket and there's no bread left! And very little fruit and veg.

Mumteedum · 08/01/2026 17:42

DS's school have told them they all have to do online learning equivalent to 6 hours for y10 if school closes. Miserable buggers.

NeartoNewquay · 08/01/2026 17:43

@JurgenKloppsTeeth - we had the alert about 45 mins ago - my DDs were panicking! Still doesn't sound that bad yet and am hoping that it's not going to be as bad as they say.

leporello · 08/01/2026 17:44

Not a stupid name albeit one you'd rarely see outside Ireland, after St Maria Goretti. Nothing but rain rain rain here, yellow wind forecast but could be worse. All the best to people in red and amber zones.

The storms are named by the country they are first in so I suggest you take your argument up with the French met office

FatEndoftheWedge · 08/01/2026 17:48

@Magicmagician why are trains in chaos ?**

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 08/01/2026 17:57

My thoughts are with the people of Cornwall with the red warning in place. I hope this (the most beautiful part of England in my opinion) is not too badly battered and that people are able to make themselves safe.

DH has just read of 4 metre waves in Coverack, we are struggling to imagine this as it's always so calm and tranquil when we visit in summer.

I'm up north (England) and it looks like we are getting off relatively lightly for once with yellow snow warning.

Assume it’s due to the weather north of us - the valley lines are all in a mess

Just picking up again here near Dead Ruff. I think that was the eye of the storm passing through earlier, it was quite eerily quiet!
