Things that sound nice but actually aren't

I'm putting forward Fruit teas.
Some of the combinations sound so promising and positively delicious.

In reality, they taste what I imagine drinking pot pourri to be like.

Fruity teas smell delicious but They Lie and taste of disappointment

EchoedSilence · 30/12/2025 15:17

Goats cheese. Tastes like a goat smells.

WeeAgnes · 30/12/2025 15:17

@TyneTeas Exactly that!

Salted caramel lattes

blankcanvas3 · 30/12/2025 15:18

Niche but co-op’s truly irresistible sticky toffee pudding. I was so disappointed.

Yes, and the aftertaste... lingers.

Most cakes and desserts, nearly all made with oils and starches instead of butter/eggs/flour now.

Also 'a day off to relax', unless I have proper fun plans to fill a day I invariably waste it and feel worse.

Agree fruit teas!

awrbc81 · 30/12/2025 15:20

Agree with the fruit tea, also bad for your teeth!

Sorbet - always sounds like a nice idea but it’s just too cold and hurts your teeth

CharlotteCChapel · 30/12/2025 15:21

I have some fruit infusions, a mulled cider (non alcoholic) and a carribean Christmas one. They're both really nice especially when cold.

Salted caramel lattes

Agreed - salted caramel anything.

My mother.

Bobbedhairdontcare · 30/12/2025 15:25

For me it’s Chinese food I love the smell but it never tastes like the smell if that makes sense. I’m always disappointed,

RareGoalsVerge · 30/12/2025 15:25

So many of the delicious-sounding fruit-infused gin varieties that people sometimes make using hedgerow-foraged fruit (damsons, sloes etc) ought to be lovely but taste of cough mixture.

I'm like that with chips! Smell delicious, but are basically hot, oily potato.

😆

We'll take your word for it!

Spa days - total boredom in a dressing gown
NYE “out” - expensive, disappointing, stressful
Fish n chips - 1000 calories and 40 quid wasted
Champagne - instant headache
Weddings - boredom and headache
Hello Fresh etc - minuscule portions

FanofLeaves · 30/12/2025 15:28

A spa day 🤣 I know objectively they can be very relaxing. But I went to one recently (gifted by my boss as a leaving present) and honestly…I left more wound up than when I went in!
didn’t help that I got a godawful masseuse who kneaded me around like a ball of dough despite me saying many times the pressure was too much, and some discrepancy over whether I got a glass of champagne with my voucher or not (I did but I didn’t appreciate having to argue the toss)

Plus I was bored just sitting on a plastic bed watching people swim up and down and wondering how long I should sit in the sauna 🤣 I’m not very good at switching off, at all.

Purplewarrior · 30/12/2025 15:28

Hot tubs

HitchinNudists · 30/12/2025 15:29

Agree about fruit teas. Complete waste of time. Also, Biscoff.

wizzler · 30/12/2025 15:29

Burgers and onions outside football grounds. Smell amazing … look and taste awful

Tanefan · 30/12/2025 15:30

Many of M&S’ posh party food offerings…. They sound lovely but in reality the combinations are too contrived and just weird tasting…

Forgottenmyphone · 30/12/2025 15:30

Campfires
Scatter cushions
Frosty morning walk

VoltaireMittyDream · 30/12/2025 15:31

A nice hot bath. First it makes my face sweat, then it goes cold in an instant. Then I’m all dizzy when I get out.

These days, a nice glass of wine. Sounds lovely in theory! In practice it’s an instant migraine.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 30/12/2025 15:31

Going for "a walk" on Xmas day.

You end up cold, probably wet. And I always end up with indigestion if I move too much after a big meal.

Fruit teas, agree. Was just like smelly hot water.

Picnics, nope. I dont need nature in my food. See also BBQs.

HipHopDontYouStop · 30/12/2025 15:32

Burgers. I love the look, the smell, the descriptions. But they never live up to my expectations.

EchoedSilence · 30/12/2025 15:33

Sourdough bread. Far too chewy.
Brioche. Neither bread or cake.
