Anyone else ruin Christmas because they were drunk?

Officially hit rock bottom. Ruined Christmas for
my children due to my behaviour when drunk. Full of self loathing and I have finally got to the point of realising that I can’t drink alcohol again.

Day 1 of being sober.

Thank you everyone! I’m really worried about Easter as we have a massive party each year, I just want to get through this event and then I think I will feel more relaxed about it, I’m just worrying as I know it will be really boozy 😫 I do feel proud of myself though ☺️

I have turned down quite a lot of social invites as it’s such early days for me, but once I feel stronger hopefully I can start socialising more again without relying on drink x

Well done @Newyearnewmewoooop

You are doing brilliantly and am sure you can do the Easter party too! I hope you have a great time and feel even better when you wake up the next day feeling good! All the best 💪❤️

Newyearnewmewoooop · 04/04/2026 00:30

I did it! Just in bed now, it was really hard to be honest as everyone was getting drunk etc and offering me drinks 🙄 Totally worth it though as I am tucked up with my youngest now ☺️

Amazing @Newyearnewmewoooop. One milestone at a time!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 04/04/2026 00:46

Well done op. Driving to everything and paying for an early Pilates class are big saviors to avoid temptations!

Uenanbah · 04/04/2026 00:52

Massive well done! You are doing awesomely! Really pleased for you. Keep on keeping on...one day at a time..

Strokethefurrywall · 04/04/2026 01:33

Just another one giving you a massive virtual and sober high five.
I know how big these events are a tackling them sober is a massive deal - congratulations on this massive accomplishment!!
Just keep taking day by day and make sure you have the support for those tricky days you can see approaching - warm hugs xxx

Just hold onto that wonderful feeling of personal pride you will wake up to today - it far outweighs any feeling of being drunk - well done - genuinely, well done.

TheHellHoundBlackShuck · 04/04/2026 07:27

Fantastic, OP!

Great news! You’re amazing, well done.

TicTac80 · 05/04/2026 11:56

Well done OP, you're doing brilliantly! I think that if you're able to, can you tell people that you're not drinking alcohol anymore as it really affects you (just give some glib excuse)?

My body doesn't process alcohol well at all, so even a couple of units worth will hit me hard (nausea, headaches, flush etc). Friends all know this and they never put pressure on me to drink or offer me alcohol. Another thing that helps is that I'm normally the person driving, so I stick to soft drinks anyway (and again, no one in my friendship group would offer alcohol to someone driving). I think if you present to friends this new "normal", then they will soon get used to it and lay off the pressure.

I saw this thread pop up and remembered your post on Boxing Day. Was reading through your posts just now hoping you would say you were still sober.
Bloody well done you! It's awesome that you've managed to get through some big events where alcohol would normally be a bit feature for you

NurseP · 05/04/2026 14:49

Amazing! Well done!

Newyearnewmewoooop · 05/04/2026 19:56

This is so great OP. One day, one event at a time. Your kids will thank you for it. Imagine how you’ll feel next Boxing Day when you see how far you’ve come!

Newyearnewmewoooop · 02/08/2026 08:59

I relapsed and kids saw me last night. I hate myself, currently hiding in the garden as I’m too scared to face them. I’m so disappointed and angry with myself 😭

NurseP · 02/08/2026 09:06

Use the disappointment a d anger to spur you on. This one slip does not define you!

Violetdeparma · 02/08/2026 09:12

Op don't make it a big thing to them it will only mean somerhng to them if you attach something to it.
Forgot about it ,people do relapse it happens !move on !

Newyearnewmewoooop · 02/08/2026 09:16

I just feel like the last 8 months have been for nothing! I have undone all that good work in one night, and all the confidence they had in the “new me” will be gone.

Morning OP. Sorry you’re feeling bad today. You slipped up. It happens. You’re human. It’s not the action, it’s how you react to it. As a PP poster said, don’t make it into a big deal. If apologies are required, make them. Give yourself some credit for the previous 8 months, you still have that to be proud of, and today’s a new day. Sending you love. ❤️

Justmadesourkraut · 02/08/2026 09:30

Of course you do. And it will affect their trust in your recovery for a while. But honestly, that's how it goes. You have shown them, and more importantly, shown yourself that you can do this. And if you really want to, you will pick yourself up and do it again. Each day sober is giving your body a chance to heal, giving you a better quality of life, showing your kids you can do this for yourself and for them. And each relapse is a reminder of the battle you face. This is not easy for you. It's never going to be. But every day you stay sober is a victory for you, and for your family. Reset to day one. You know you can make it to day 80. Ask yourself what caused to to relapse this time, avoid that stumbling block next time.

Thinking of you, and rooting for you.
