Punch and Judy strawberry toothpaste. DPs had Signal (red and white stripes), Cherish(I think cherry flavour), or Euthymol which was bright pink!
Linco Beer, Timotei or apple green shampoo.
Sanatogen kids’ vitamins- chalky fruit flavour spheres, and Haliborange tablets in the medicine cabinet.
Usually a Victoria Plum gift set from Christmas, with bubble bath and soap, maybe bath cubes.
We had a telescopic shower curtain that was not fixed, but suctioned to each wall so it fell off a lot!
Miss Matey!
Camay, Zest, Imperial Leather or Shield soap.
A glass jar with a lid, full of coloured cotton wool balls.
Coloured loo roll!

A tub of Estee Lauder herbal deep conditioning hair mask

pinkgown · 20/12/2025 23:35

A Valor paraffin heater.
The bathroom was icy - most houses didn't have central heating then.
Just like this

Psychedelic wallpaper that was like watching a kaleidoscope if you sat there long enough

Kaolin and morphine liquid for tummy bugs.
Mum's powder puff.
Dad's Old Spice aftershave.
tiles with yellow veins to match the yellow suite

Part of the Crazy foam crew here! Think I got it in my stocking at Christmas. Loved that stuff.
Didnt have an actual bathroom until I was 6! It was off my bedroom and you had to walk through it and up the attic stairs to my brother’s bedroom.
Before we moved we had a bath in the kitchen under the stairs and my friend next door had a tin bath.
Loving remembering all the products. Forgotten about the spherical talc holders with a body puff!!
4711, Tweed and Charlie perfumes!
Great nostalgic thread.

My parents‘ bungalow, one previous owner:
Sink and bath: blue (the toilet was in a separate room next to the bathroom)
Lino-like floor tiles: one row of black at the edges, including next to the bath. The centre ones were green.
Wall tiles: the row at the bottom was black, the rest were pink with a narrow maroon layer in the next-to-the-top row.

The street had been sold as separate plots and each house was different, possibly using different architects and builders. These colours were detailed in the plans for their bungalow.

Edit: the house was sold about 30 years ago and I assume the new owners have redone the bathroom. They have built a first floor to the bungalow so it’s now a house.

Immac hair removal cream.

Imps/Nigroids - tiny, black liquorice sweets for the throat, and Sea-Legs travel sickness pills in the medicine cabinet.

A rubber shower hose
orange flowered wallpaper

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 21/12/2025 00:22

A soap shaped like Cinderella’s slipper on the side of the bath, covered in dust as I thought it was too pretty to use.

Bath cubes!

Usually purchased by 8 year old me for my Mum's birthday. Cheapest item on my solo trip to the village shop!

Is it odd that reading this, I can smell bath cubes, like visualising a smell? Do they even still make them?

KnickerlessParsons · 21/12/2025 00:24

Anne French cleansing milk

BestZebbie · 21/12/2025 00:33

Woodlice!

Also: wooden bath toys (model boats), fluffy pedestal mat and loo seat cover, bath pearls and bath cubes, talcum powder (but not hair conditioner), a wire rack that went across the bath to hold soap etc, a strip of rough fabric with a plastic hoop at each end to wash your back with.

The bathroom also had a (sealed-up) Victorian fireplace complete with tiles and a mantlepiece as originally it had been a bedroom before the house had indoor plumbing...

TapertandEdkins · 21/12/2025 00:34

Avon Pretty Peach anything!

We had an avocado green bathroom suite including bidet (mostly used for the dog to drink out of!) - my mum’s curlers, whole sideboard of make up. Hi karate talc, dried flower arrangements, bath pearls…

We had the green bath suite too 😀

Financial · 21/12/2025 06:31

A plastic hose you pushed onto both taps that created a mixer for washing your hair leaning over the bath.

A fluffy loo mat and matching lid cover

A doll whose skirt was used as a spare loo roll cover.

TCP

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 21/12/2025 06:41

Loads of what’s been mentioned
Green toilet, sink and bath, green carpet and piece of the same carpet covered the bathroom scales
Timotei
Bath salts in a decanter - they didn’t melt immediately so you sat on small stones

EleanorReally · 21/12/2025 06:43

Lisanne55 · 20/12/2025 18:32

A shower head/mixer thing on the taps for washing your hair with.

This thread reminds me of the book George's Marvellous Medicine, which is a good montage of household products from the time, as every ingredient he puts into the medicine is listed in detail.

"He would go first to the bathroom. There are always lots of funny things in a bathroom. But he didn't go near the medicine cabinet, it was the only thing in the entire house he had been forbidden to touch. He had made solemn promises to his parents about this, and he wasn't going to break them. There were things in there, they had told him, that could actually kill a person, and while wanted to give Grandma a pretty fiery mouthful, he didn't really want a dead body on his hands."

And then what does he put in? Liquid paraffin! Grin He hadn't the slightest idea what it did to you, but he put it in anyway. And he puts in animal pills, because nobody has ever told him he mustn't touch them.

A frilly shower cap with lace trim, and optrex eye wash with the blue plastic eyebath on the lid, always in the bathroom cabinet

Nourishinghandcream · 21/12/2025 07:32

One of those hand held rubber shower heads with hoses that pushed on to the bath taps.
A bottle of Matey bubble bath.
