Matey bubble bath.

333FionaG · 20/12/2025 18:46

Vosene shampoo.
A plastic jug for hair rinsing.
Talcum powder.
A bobbly bathmat and matching toilet seat cover.
A crinoline lady hiding the spare loo roll.

A bidet! And the weird carpet thing round the toilet.

GrassMarketeer · 20/12/2025 18:47

Bath cubes!

Usually purchased by 8 year old me for my Mum's birthday. Cheapest item on my solo trip to the village shop!

GrassMarketeer · 20/12/2025 18:49

Also had a pomander! This was just before the era of pot pourri.

We had an avocado green bathroom suite including bidet (mostly used for the dog to drink out of!) - my mum’s curlers, whole sideboard of make up. Hi karate talc, dried flower arrangements, bath pearls…

Fancy!

Vosene

These were not in my childhood bathroom, but I saw these in other people's:
Toilet with high-level cistern, with extra long chain for children to reach.
Non-white bath, toilet, sink.
Soap with a magnet inside the bar, to hold it in place.
Cupboard containing cleaning materials, locked with a padlock and chain.
Bath with feet.

An actual bathroom

In DGM’s bathroom: Fine Fare egg and lemon shampoo

Silverbirchleaf · 20/12/2025 18:55

Toothpaste in metal tubes

Soap - eg. Shield soap

Timeforatincture · 20/12/2025 18:57

A paraffin heater.

Still love the smell of paraffin.

LoudSnoringDog · 20/12/2025 18:58

A lawnmower. Was the only place my dad could store it.

Dearg · 20/12/2025 18:59

China soap dish with a lid on the corner of the bath.
Towelling curtain on the window - white with primary coloured shapes
Dad’s shaving brush and soap
One large bath towel and several hand towels
A pack of 2 toilet rolls ( I buy mine in 16s )

glendabrownlow · 20/12/2025 18:59

Gibb's detifrice. Someone upthread mentioned it. It came in a round tin, either pink or blue, it was a solid bar of toothpaste and it was wrapped in cellophane. The cellophane smelled lovely when you removed it in order to use the bar. Also, Avon soap on a rope.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 20/12/2025 19:00

When did those carpeted mats that went around the sink and base of the loo disappear? I remember them, and my grandmother still has hers, but I haven't seen any in shops... and certainly don't have them in my bathroom!

Other than that... Matey Bubble Bath and Morrisons Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. I've also done away with shower gel and reverted to soap.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 20/12/2025 19:00

Those orange kids aspirin, tasted really nice !

Words · 20/12/2025 19:01

Izal loo paper
As medicines: Fennings lung healers and Beecham's powders. Thermometers were never used for temperature checking - none in the house.
My Dad's Brylcreem and Old Spice aftershave
Some strange medicated shampoo my mother was told to use until a scalp issue cleared it up. She used it unnecessarily for decades afterwards. It stank.

Munchyseeds2 · 20/12/2025 19:01

Black toilet seat

scalt · 20/12/2025 19:01

A really weird bath in a French bathroom I used a few times in my childhood: a "stepper" bath, as we called it. It was half the length of a normal bath, and had a step inside, that you would sit on, so it took up much less floor space. The bath was also sunken into the floor.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 20/12/2025 19:02

Imperial leather

mbosnz · 20/12/2025 19:03

A life sized plastic green duck. I wonder what happened to that duck?

Words · 20/12/2025 19:03

Am ashamed to say I had not realised so many things were no longer available, like Vosene.

Disco2022 · 20/12/2025 19:03

I know someone who still has most of these things. But she also has a home crocheted toilet seat that goes on the bit that you sit on. Horrific in so many ways.

Borka · 20/12/2025 19:04

A rubber floating soap dish shaped like a hippo.
Camberwick Green toothpaste
No More Tears shampoo
