Amalgamated from my parents' and grandparents' bathrooms:

Pot pourri
Chocolate brown bathroom suite
Turquoise bathroom suite
Muddy pink bathroom suite
Carpet
Mats round toilet and basin
Chicken-chasing-weasel tiles (also found in DGM's kitchen)
Macrame hanging pot holder with vigorous spider plant

These tiles. Ours were peach. My Gran's were pink I think. I saw a funny creature skiing.

Those are still in FIL's house, covering up the asbestos sheet behind! They're falling off now, after being there around 50 years.

Matey (until DS is old enough for any old shit bubble bath, and then it will be back!)

Crazy Foam! I can still smell it. The angst when you pushed the button and it made that rasping empty noise. And it was a once-a-year treat as it cost over 8 shillings.

Oh god that's a memory! And yes, Matey, and those oily bath pearls that turned the bath into a skating rink that you couldn't safely stand in.

Also talcum powder, Kaolin & Morphine, Milk of Magnesia, and Surgical Spirits.

CheeseWisely · 20/12/2025 22:22

Oh and those weird squishy dolphin shaped bath pearls from the body shop that just made the bath slippy and left bits of slimy plastic in the water.

I really miss the little shaped soaps they did back in the 80/90s at Christmas! They're just not a fun shop anymore.

Imperial Leather soap. It was exciting using soap in other people's bathrooms because my parents only ever bought imperial leather (for decades!).

Here are a couple of obscure ones, from my childhood bathroom:
Taps in the corner of the bath.
A cold tap with a green colour in the centre, instead of blue.
Light switch on the wall (instead of a pull cord).
Shower attachment, which fitted over the taps.

I wouldn’t consider any of these obscure. I w seem all recently

Is that the one that had a magnet in it, and could buy a stand that screwed onto the wall?

We had a magnet thing stuck on the wall and then you just pushed the oppo magnet into any bar of soap

BlackForestCake · 20/12/2025 22:40
