I've remembered a few other peculiarities from my childhood bathroom: my parents kept lots of funny things in the bathroom.
A leather-cased radio which my mum always used when getting ready in the morning.
A poster of information about homeopathy. (My parents tried it briefly for my brother's asthma, but later decided it was no good.)
A shelf with tiny glass bottles of assorted colours, which were empty shampoo, medicine or perfume bottles with the labels removed, when they were generally in glass bottles, rather than plastic. They kept them because they thought they looked nice.
A halo: a device for keeping water out of our eyes while washing hair.
A toy wooden horse on wheels called "the trouble maker". There is a family photo of one of us as a baby being held on this horse, which caused an injury, so it was this horse's fate to stand there, on a high shelf, out of the way.
The naughty chair. Yes, really! A stool which was kept in the bathroom served as this purpose.
