I thank you for saving me the job!

I also have a rind washed goats' cheese I got from the farmer's market last week.

Good. I was worried about the lack of goat. I like that you are buying a reasonable amount of each cheese.

Ap42 · 19/12/2025 20:06

I would happily spend that amount on cheese! Would in all honesty prefer a massive cheese board for Christmas dinner, rather than some dried out turkey! Enjoy it.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 19/12/2025 20:13

Off the back of this thread I have just googled cheese shops. There is one near me and it has Alp Blossom in stock. I'm going to have to up my game on the cheese front.

What's up with a bit of good old boursin?!

Slightly off topic but I saw recently a pack of three Boursin cheeses, one of which was Black Pepper which I've not been able to find for years!

lazyarse123 · 19/12/2025 20:23

Here's me thinking i was splashing out £4.00 on a small truckle of Wensleydale just for me to have with my Christmas Cake.

Yorkshire here too.

How do you place an order without knowing how much it is going to cost? How much did you think all that posh sounding cheese that probably smells rank was going to cost?

I am collecting a 2kg sirloin joint on Monday for Boxing Day, I'll just take my card and some smelling salts!

TheRosesAreInBloom · 19/12/2025 20:34

Jessbow · 19/12/2025 17:25

Could have got it all in Waitrose or M&S !
Prob half the cost

I was at Waitrose a couple of hours ago, took the OP’s list - they had only two of them, the Epoisse and Montgomery.

campocaro · 19/12/2025 20:37

I feel lucky to have bought, for £52, cheese enough for 2 cheeseboards of 5 large pieces of cheese each, one for a party and one for Xmas lunch. At the wonderful cheese stall in Grainger market, Newcastle

WOAH THERE. A cheese ADVENT CALENDAR?! I mean, obvs I’m too late for this year but where do I get one of these for next Christmas?

The Courtyard Dairy

its 24 good sized (about 100 gm) pieces of artisan British cheese. It arrives in two deliveries, two weeks apart with loads of recipes and info about the cheesemakers. It’s an investment, but I don’t buy alcohol, so I figure I can have this instead.

Jesus wept. You should come to volunteer in the food bank with me and witness poverty first hand then reconsider your spend.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/12/2025 21:09

I bought

Red Leicester £3.25
Boursin £2
Feta £1.35

I such a cheap cheese fiend

Why assume she doesn’t do similar?

why shouldn't she spend her own money in whichever way she chooses? You have no idea what she does for charity.

Oh it's like a handbag thread!! 😂

JingleMyBellsChristmasSmells · 19/12/2025 21:19

How does everyone eat all of this cheese?

I am a robust woman with a healthy appetite (😳) and cheese just sinks like a lead balloon!

I can stomach a bit now and again but the thought of a cheese board sends me funny.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 19/12/2025 21:29

Alp Blossom us my absute favourite cheese!
DS gifted me a cheese selection one year which contained some.
A couple of years later we spent 2 nights in a hotel in Germany which had Alp Blossom on its breakfast buffet. You could help yourself to s much as you liked (so I did). Basically I paid for the cheese, and got a free room with it 🤣
Enjoy, OP.

I must go tomorrow. The queue will be horrendous, but worse on Monday.

This is why I pre-order ours. I can go straight to the front of the queue to ring a bell, and somebody comes out to hand me my cheese.

Then go to the craft beer place next door!

Is the Vacherin Swiss? The ban on the import of raw milk french cheeses has meant that many cheesemongers are buying in (much more expensive, because Switzerland) Vacherin. I’ve seen them for as much as £28 for a 400g cheese in London. That could be the be the big difference from last year!

If OP didn't spend her money on fancy cheese, the deli would go out of business, the cheese maker would go out of business and the dairy farmer would go out of business. They would then all be turning up at the food bank.

People who have money spending it is good for society.

madaboutpurple · 19/12/2025 21:37

If I am doing a cheese board I tend to buy around 6 standard pieces, a cheddar ,a blue a piece of Cheshire ,red Leicester ,maybe 2 more so it is not too expensive.

madaboutpurple · 19/12/2025 21:41

There is a little cheese shop in Whitstable and the man in front of me only got 2 pieces and it was around £40. I went to a nearby supermarket and just got some cheddar.

giveyourselfapresent · 19/12/2025 23:13

My cheese order is coming on Monday. I love cheese but I'm no expert, so I pretty much pick at random when I order posh cheeses. I mean, I read the descriptions, but they all sound delicious, so I just add whatever to my basket till I get to a price I can do. Makes for a nice surprise.

Looking at the confirmation, I've got:
Little Prideaux
Bath soft cheese
Bath blue cheese
Westcombe smoked cheddar
Fosse Way fleece
Keen's cheddar
Little Lepe soft goat's cheese 🧀🧀🧀

Damnloginpopup · 20/12/2025 05:02

Just reminded me, I need to get some babybel. Nothing says Christmas like the little baby cheeses

There is one in Otley - Yorkshire Pecorino.

Unfortunately I won’t be anywhere near Otley - although I often drive through/past and didn’t know about this cheese shop. I will definitely visit in the New Year.

PeonyPatch · 20/12/2025 09:53

How many are you catering for?
