Incorrect!

Seems like I got a bargain at £121.

It's my standard Christmas cheese order, usually about £80-90.

Just felt a bit toppy!

Oh! Well, that's not too bad.

I hate cheese.

Did you do that mad grin we all do when paying for something that costs more than expected, trying to hide the fact that what we really want to say is, thats too much, I need to put something back!

Edited

No, I go in all the time and said, 'blimey'.

Luckily the very nice wine shop next door was having a tasting so I calmed myself down with some quality gin & whiskey (and yes it was Irish, hence the 'e').

That’s like 5kg of cheese (maybe more). Who truly needs or wants to eat that much cheese over a 2-10 day period 😳 Please say you’re feeding 20! That aside, small batch food is expensive and hopefully the farmers and makers got a fair share.

How is that 5kg of cheese? It's about 2...

Ok, 2.5kg.

But not 5!!

I entertain most Friday nights the way most people do for Xmas (not with cheese though!) and that does sound ridiculous.

HollywentLightly · 19/12/2025 15:34

But they're not just normal cheeses.

BootMaker · 19/12/2025 15:34

No. I'm not feeding 20. But who wants a mean cheeseboard?

Sounds amazing can I come? Love cheese 🧀

TicklishReader · 19/12/2025 15:37

The cheese eaters in my house can nibble their way through an extraordinary amount over Christmas. It's part of the magic.

And obviously I want that much cheese, otherwise I would have ordered, err, less cheese...

This is why the period in between Christmas and new years is called ‘cheese week’. I approve of your cheese buying OP

travailtotravel · 19/12/2025 15:39

My sister in law buys the cheese as its the main feature of our table to be honest and we eat a lot of it. Our best year yet was £180!

buckeejit · 19/12/2025 15:40

Was it the courtyard dairy? If so, why didn’t you get Leeds blue?! Missing out!

£121 between 20 people is very good.At least you'll have enough for everyone.

AgnesX · 19/12/2025 15:43

BootMaker · 19/12/2025 15:11

For reference I got

A Vacherin
500g of stichelton
500g of Montgomery Cheddar
An Epoisses
A bungay raw butter
500g sparkenhoe
250g of smoked Coverdale
250g Alp blossom

2 x perello olives
1 x fancy hot chocolate

Quantity aside. I'd love a cheese platter like that for Christmas. If it would stop raining long enough I'd traipse off to Starter Culture for a nosey. Perhaps next week

I'm not feeding 20 people, that was a PP's estimate of how many people the cheese would feed to avoid gluttony.

Haha at mean cheeseboard. Well done for keeping the local deli in custom.

That’s amount of cheese would never feed 20 people. Not generously any way,

Fibrous · 19/12/2025 15:49

I'm trying to eat less sweet stuff over the Christmas period so I'm all for that quantity of cheese. My SIL will be buying cheese from the Cheese Hamlet in Didsbury and I can't wait.

I got given a cheese hamper from work - West Country Cheese hamper online. It had loads of stinky french cheeses in it with a short shelf life, so we had to eat it pretty quickly. Such a shame 😏

My now STB ex SIL said she would do a cheese board for us once - it consisted of a halloumi (which I like, but not for a cheeseboard!), a goats cheese (the kind you would put in a tart) and a cheddar I think.

Such an unbelievable letdown.
