habin · 14/12/2025 10:00

Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

I have friends who are going, and just hope and pray there isn't a repetition

As a pp said, one of the worst aspects of this horror is that it comes as no surprise at all
In the meantime, thoughts are with everyone who's suffered

I'm avoiding any events like that and Xmas markets.

News conference on now. They are reporting 12 killed. Watching it on AFTV on YT.

Bloody hell. I am so sorry. This may be a normal sorta number elsewhere but it is just massive in Australia.

I just made a donation to Community Security Trust, which aims to protect Britain’s Jews and to fight anti-semitism.

What a great idea, thank you for highlighting. I think many of us are looking for practical ways of supporting our Jewish community in the U.K.

I have provided the literal statement.

You cannot ignore the truth simply because it is inconvenient for you.

My post refers to the bullshit you’ve posted claiming that Australia doesn’t protect Jewish people and allows Jewish hatred to increase.

We’ve had non stop coverage of the attack for over three hours on tv.

GentleSheep · 14/12/2025 12:21

seafoamhair · 14/12/2025 12:05

That was in the immediate aftermath when it had not yet been determined that the target was the Hannuka by the Sea celebration, nor that it was a terrorist attack.

Further updates declared that info, and the PM's presser was clear about his support of the Jewish community and that all Australians must support the Jewish community and help them feel safe.

That was a very good statement, clear and not mincing words. Wish the UK police did similarly!

Whenlifegiveslemons · 14/12/2025 10:31

Its horrendous, absolutely awful. A terrorist attack in this day & age, on a peaceful beach should never happen. Ive seen no reports its linked to the Jewish community being targeted - so to suggest that in this thread is incorrect.

Would you call a shooting in a mosque anti Muslim? Your mental gymnastics are admirable.

billysboy · 14/12/2025 12:23

It didnt really matter to me where the link was from , it was the fact the BBC etc would not show it

The point of the link was to show the bravery of this man in such adversity

In these sort of situations, it matters greatly where links come from.

Responding to hatred by supporting another hate organization through clicks is not the way.

EsmaCannonball · 14/12/2025 11:32

Well, yes, but we don't seem to have a problem with extremist Quakers or to have to put up bollards around Christmas markets in case some Sikhs get out of hand. You can't resolve the problem unless you recognise the problem.

Agree with this.

Here is a post referencing statistics in Australia. Jews there are not feeling protected. This is a very real problem, which resulted in at least 12 murders today. To call it 'bullshit' is highly disrespectful and vile.

I suggest you reflect on that and apologise.

Global Jewish leaders: Australia’s antisemitism spike is a warning for democracies worldwide

Jewish leaders from the world’s seven largest diaspora communities convened in Sydney this week for the first‑ever J7 Task Force Summit in Australia, warning that the sharp spike in antisemitism seen in Australia, including foreign state‑linked attacks...

As someone who wholeheartedly supports the Palestine cause (i don't see the relevance, but others have conflated this issue), I find this terror attack horrific and my thoughts are the victims' families.

I think the trouble is that the "Palestinian cause" was co-opted by people with much darker motives, who have exploited the well-meaning. The first rally in London was organised on 7 October 2023 as the attacks in Israel were unfolding. The co-founder of Palestine Action, Richard Barnard, strongly praised Hamas on 8 October 2023 in a speech in Manchester. As a non-Jew but someone who is deeply concerned about the carefully orchestrated global rise in antisemitism, including here in the UK, I've found it hard not to feel nervous when I see Palestinian flags being waved around as a badge of honour because there is a huge bandwagon that has quietly been serving a very different purpose. You only have to read Hamas's founding charter to understand what is going on behind the scenes.

It's all over the news that this was a targeted attack against Jewish families celebrating the start of Chanukah. Open your eyes.

EmpressOfTheThread · 14/12/2025 12:33

Just adding my voice to say how horrific this is, Jewish people having a party on a beach is obviously an affront to some people.
The growth of antisemitism in Western societies is alarming.
Thinking of our Jewish brothers and sisters today. How terrifying for them.

sciaticafanatica · 14/12/2025 12:33

@Outside9”The Palestinian cause” a trendy bandwagon that antisemetic people around the world have used to openly declare their support to those who hate and want to kill Jewish people!

EmpressOfTheThread · 14/12/2025 12:34

Thank you, @Beachtastic . It has been co-opted.
Plus there have been some willing fools among the Left.

Please don't click this video, it's a link to a Raise the Colours IG page.

I already did. I'm assuming that they're a right-wing organisation of some kind?

Yes, thank you for this.

inezname · 14/12/2025 12:36

I am an Australian from Bondi beach. One of my best life moments is walking with my pram up and down on Bondi beach daily. It is magical.

What also breaks my heart is that most people live in small ish apartments, so to avoid cabin fever with little kids, many venture out to the beach at sunset, to catch up with friends, and to watch the sun go down. Sun sets just before 7pm now, the shooters started shooting at 6.40pm.

To target a place full of families, and on the busiest time of the week is just beyond horrendous.

Bet it was the Free Tibet crowd. Lamaists are a bloody menace to society and xmas shopping in particular.

LVhandbagsatdawn · 14/12/2025 12:37

Let's not allow discussion of this awful incident to descend into Islamophobia and hate.

Let's focus on how we can support the Jewish community.

Or those dreadful Methodists haranguing people for contributions to their soup kitchens.

Aur0raAustralis · 14/12/2025 12:39

The hero who grabbed the gun has been named. I'd read rumours he was an off-duty police officer but it turns out he is a fruit shop owner! His name is Ahmed al Ahmed.
