Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

It’s being reported in Australian media that the terrorists were father and son. Generational hate. Immigrated to a safe, prosperous country and instead of building a beautiful life with their family, brought antisemitism, violence and death with them.

Can I ask what it is that is an excuse?

All these religions contain nonsense. Virgin births, flying donkeys, golden tablets being delivered by angels. Not one religious text mentions dinosaurs. All the texts are supposed to have been inspired by an all-knowing god that appears to have known no more than humans knew at the time. Please, can we have a truly secular society?

This is really interesting and needs to become more widespread knowledge wise.

I sometimes think westerners calling atrocities 'terror attacks' almost glamorises it, sounds like they are fighting a cause whereas if the media and important high profile Muslims called them 'dogs of hell fire' it doesn't sound quite as scary or 'Martyr' like.

The father and son aspect of this shows the cultural difference and how unwillingness to integrate travels down the generations. These men knew they were most likely to be killed by the police. What father would be happy to take a course of action that would lead to the death of his own son? Who in the 21st century west raises their children to commit suicide by cop?

They need public mocking by high profile imams.

...but by no means the first time this has happened.

I agree with this, the leadership has to come from within the religion, but with extreme people they might see this as an attack and all we do is in the end create further factions/denominations.

Extremism should be condemmed by all leaders.

You will have to live in hope. Here is the statement from Australia’s National Imans Council. No mention of Jews at all. No condemnation of the terrorists doing it in the name of Islam.

It’s interesting there is zero mention of Jews or antisemitism in that statement.

I would love to know what was in the minds of those that carried out the killings. Obviously a hatred of Jews, but where did that come from ? What have they been told ? What did they find out for themselves? What were their sources?What turns people into cold blooded murderers ?
