Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

I note that you were selective in your response to my post.

Can I assume that you agree that Arabs are not afforded the same rights, in Israel, as Jews?

Please explain the rights that Arabs who are not Jews are not allowed to have in Israel.

HoneyParsnipSoup · 14/12/2025 16:16

I’m not saying I believe that.

But let’s put it this way, you’d be kicked out of ‘Your Party’ and ‘Palestine support groups’ for it.

I'm not a member of Your Party or any Palestinian groups.

OneFunBrickNewt · 14/12/2025 16:56

Teddleshon1 · 14/12/2025 16:30

@BeserkingTuesday aside from citizenship by descent and the requirement to serve in the military, which legal rights do Arabs living in Israel not have?

What's on paper, and what's in reality is very different. In East Germany the consitution guranteed many rights to citizens, which didn't happen in reality. Same in Israel for Arabs.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 14/12/2025 16:58

Equal voting rights. Arab Muslim MPs in Parliament.

Which rights do you think they don't have?

ChristmasMantleStatue · 14/12/2025 16:59

And in any case.... what issues are there in a completely different country have to do with a targeted massacre of civilians in Australia?

Lampzade · 14/12/2025 16:59

Whatever one’s views on the issue with Palestine . I just find it incredibly disturbing that some posters appear not to care that innocent Jewish people have lost their lives
There has been an increase in ‘casual ‘ anti semitism. The worst thing is that people feel so emboldened they don’t even attempt to hide it anymore .
BTW, I am not Jewish, I am just saddened by the lack of empathy some posters have displayed

Comedycook · 14/12/2025 17:00

Funnily enough, I rarely hear people describe Saudi Arabia as an apartheid state ... despite the lack of religious freedom....

OneFunBrickNewt · 14/12/2025 17:01

LucyWestenra · 14/12/2025 16:13

Agreed.

But this truth is unpalatable to a lot of people.

But you do see radical Jews committing terrorist acts in the West Bank and Occupied territories on a daily basis.

Greysowhat · 14/12/2025 17:02

OonaStubbs · 14/12/2025 16:12

Radical Islam is a major problem and governments worldwide need to recognise this and take necessary action. You don't see Radical Jews committing terrorist acts around the world.

Some consider Netanyahu to be a radical Jew committing terrorist acts around the Middle East. eg. Gaza, Lebanon, Iran.

Teddleshon1 · 14/12/2025 17:03

@OneFunBrickNewt please elaborate, given there are Arabs in the Judiciary, the Knesset, the national football team and working across a multitude of industries in Israel, what rights don’t they have?

Okay- and some consider that Tony Blair committed appalling acts by supporting an illegal war.

Does that mean the average British person is fair game, and their murders can be justified?

But you don't see any (non Israeli) Jews committing terrorist attacks anywhere in the world. But you do you

RoamingToaster · 14/12/2025 17:09

It’s sad that a thread about such a horrible event has to turn into this. I understand there are legitimate criticisms of Netanyahu and Israel etc but it doesn’t need to be brought up on this thread.

I don’t know what goes through the killers’ heads to believe this is anything more than killing innocent people. Thinking of their families and the wider community.

reallyneedareset · 14/12/2025 17:13

I’m embarrassed to admit that I know very little about why these men chose to attack a Jewish gathering, why is there such hatred towards them? I’ve tried to understand the war in Israel but I can’t work out who is in the wrong. I’ve obviously seen the Palestine marches but again, are these against or for the Jewish people? I’m sure a lot of you will roll your eyes, I’ve tried to read up about it but I can’t get a concise explanation on what it is all about . Jews seem to have been persecuted for years, why are Islamist terrorists against them now? Sorry to have to ask. If someone can explain it in a nutshell I’d be grateful. Whatever the reasoning’s today’s events are appalling and my heart goes out to everyone involved.

They just sanction it in the name of war is it?

They need to look closely at the Mosques these guys attended and their circle of associates.

Reasonable investigative priority but they could attend the most unremarkable mosques in Australia, there's still herds of online hate preachers riling up the most gormless to commit atrocities like this.

So the theft of even more land in the west bank, and the killing of the Palestinans in the west bank is what exactly?
Its government sanctioned terrorism against the native population.

But I guess, you call that a different name?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 14/12/2025 11:24

This is so terrible. It was a Hanukkah event, how can anyone pretend that’s not obviously going to be predominantly Jewish people in attendance? You might have a few staff working the food stalls and lifeguards, some Jewish people may have invited non-Jewish friends to join them, but this was clearly targeting Jewish people. I’m not quite sure why anyone would pretend that wasn’t the case and it’s just a coincidence Jews are the ones who’ve died.

Early reports didn’t mention that it was a Jewish festival, just that there was a shooting on the beach, and the Guardian held off mentioning that it was a Jewish gathering as long as they reasonably could. The common-sense reaction is to realise that the PP in question had only read early reports when she posted, not to leap to the conclusion - as many did -that she’s some kind of anti-Semitic monster, which she doesn’t seem to be from her later posts.

Yes the poor people on a sunny Australian beach on a Sunday evening didn’t do anything. And yet they were targeted.

Southernecho · 14/12/2025 17:18

The Bondi beach shootings are a vile atrocity, nothing at all justifies it, not Gaza, West bank nothing.
I pray the people injured make full recoveries.

Hats to to the guy, apparently a Muslim, who disarmed one of the murderous thugs.
He was extremely brave and very cool, got the gun, then placed it on the ground to avoid, he hoped, from being shot by the Police.

There are enough threads on here about Israel and the Palestinians, without turning this into a bun fight.

This thread is about the atrocity against Australian Jews in Sydney. Stop derailing it and show some sympathy for those who have been affected by terrorists' actions.

Did those children attending a happy event on the beach invade land? Did they have influence over the foreign government of a foreign country? You are perilously close to saying that Jews deserve to die.

Or ‘I’m not saying I agree with it, but
’

Will the very same people say they ‘don’t agree with Islamophobia, but can see why people felt that way after 9/11’?

HappyFace2025 · 14/12/2025 17:22

Southernecho there are a number of posters who are determined to bring Israel/Gaza into this thread. They should be ashamed of themselves. Jew hatred is their raisin d'ĂȘtre.
