habin · 14/12/2025 10:00

Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

Yep. Somewhere in the next few days an unrelated, innocent Muslim person will be targeted in “retaliation”…then there’ll be another antisemitic incident…and so on…and so forth…

This doesn't happen tho. Aside from what's going on in Gaza, no innocent random Muslim members of the global public get attacked in retaliation to anti semitism. This is a one way street.

My Jewish parents are in Melbourne. I have had three (and counting) phone calls with them today. They were at a Chanukah party themselves when the news started filtering through all the community channels. They are currently home, with their security systems set. I am afraid they agree with @TheTamerShrew 100%. They have been openly angry and despairing at the failure of the Albanese government to do anything more than pay mealy-mouthed lip service in support of the Jewish community.

Sending love to your family.

No community should have to feel unsafe.

And yet it was westerners who kicked the jews out of Europe after genociding them.
So why would it be an Islamic issue?

No need to be facetious. As if this is a localised threat. It's a global threat but must feel particularly worrying for Jewish people living in Australia right now.

@TheTamerShrew Oh go away. You’re determined to paint Australia as a horrific anti Jewish country. It’s not. On the whole Jewish people are very accepted and part of the community. People don’t really give two shits what religion people are. Some parts of the community are dickheads and hate Jewish people. They’re fuckwits and don’t represent Australia.

Now stop insulting me and stop implying that I condone Jewish people being murdered. You’re very wrong. The murders tonight are awful. I don’t care what religion they are.

I wish that Mumsnet had an ignore function for posters.

No, I was pointing out the geographical distance between the events of this terrorist attack on the Jewish families celebrating Hannuka by the Sea on Bondi Beach and the posters parents who are celebrating Hannuka in Melbourne, over 700 kilometres away. They were not in the line of fire, ie.

Don't you realise what you're saying?
Don't you understand that Jewish people would feel afraid?

@sciaticafanatica was* *💯wright - saw you post. Spot on.

Editing to say how funny that someone reported your post.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 14/12/2025 12:54

The man who tackled the gunman has been named as Ahmed Al Ahmed.

I would block you if I could. You have shown your prejudice very clearly, and wilfully dismissed both the lived experiences of the Jewish community in Australia, as well as the statistics for Anti-Semitism in Australia, which are the worst the the developed world.

Please reflect on why you are unwilling to acknowledge what the Jewish community is experiencing.

The brave and capable member of the public who tackled the terrorist 😱What ifpolice had mistaken him for the attacker? Ver brave. Hope he gets rewarded in a meaningful way and get support for PTSD.

How normalised islamist terrorism has become. I feel for all Jewish communities around the world 💔

I think that that is why he a) did not use weapon himself and b) put it down quite quickly.
He probably won't as authorities often don't like outside heroes.

There was another thread recently where some posters were determined to paint Ireland as a horrific anti Jewish country.

I lived in Australia up to recently enough. It never struck me as a particularly anti-any religion kind of a place. But you get nutters the world over grabbing guns and shooting into crowds. It's horrific. But it's usually people with mental health issues we'll say who are the perpetrators.

It’s not necessary or showing empathy.

Oh he got shot, the poor man. What a hero. Some people run towards danger with no thought for themselves.

LeonMccogh · 14/12/2025 12:59

Well that’ll close a few anti Muslim mouths..

shanononon · 14/12/2025 12:59

Yes, of course. Everyone in Bondi is afraid. The whole of Australia is horrified. The Jewish community here has felt attacked and vulnerable and terrified since October 7 2023, in particular.

But as you in the UK apparently know more about my country and what is happening here right now, and would rather attack those Australians on this thread for trying to point out factual errors and misapprehensions, perhaps I should leave you to it. This level of aggression and division at a time like this is ugly and inappropriate, in my view.

Don’t be dismissive. It’s multiple gun men in this attack.

It's not anti muslim to be concerned about global intifada, ordinary muslim are hugely negatively affected by Islamism too. For some the world is black and white. It's sad.
