What do you wear for a xmas party at a shoes off house?

We were having a discussion at work about what to wear for a xmas party at a shoes off house. Most people felt it was automatically less dressy (say jeans and nice top) because you'd be wearing socks which would look silly if you were all glammed up. Others would go glammed up regardless. Some would be very casual.

All this assumes that the host hasn't specified a dress code. What would you wear?

I always go for something that works with socks, so casual trousers and a top. Tights are too much of a slip hazard. Slippers aren't an appealing option. Mules I find uncomfortable, my slippers are either oversized & cutesy or care home chic.

I always assume that a no shoes house won't allow shoes at a party. There's no difference in cleanliness between everyday shoes and party shoes if they've been worn outside.

I think tights and some nice slippers - if people want to protect their carpets I’d respect that.

I wouldn't go. I get very cold feet and can't walk around in winter without shoes or slippers. It pisses me off when it's expected with no consideration for reynauds sufferers.

I’d try and make sure my sock or tights didn’t have holes in the toes!

Do you always wear high heels then if dressed up? I never wear high heels, so interested that not wearing them feels strange to some people.

Novelty festive slippers - Primark have some nice Grinch ones in at the moment…..

That's why I wouldn't go. I refuse to go to a party in slippers!

I’d also be relieved because I hate heels and fancy shoes so it means I can wear my boots to the party and won’t get comments about my utilitarian footwear

I’d bring one of my many pairs of orthopedic slippers.

We are a shoes off house, though I don’t enforce it for guests now that dd is grown. I just prefer to keep shoe traffic to a minimum. I need foot support at all times though, so I have a pair of orthopedic shoes or slippers for every situation.

Slops and socks, I guess. But in reality, I'm not friends with anyone uncouth enough to have that rule. Love from Margot xx

I'm tall, I used to model, shoes off has zero impact on the outfit 🤷‍♀️ but definitely not a downgrade to jeans if you see that as a downgrade.

I would assume it wasn’t dressy if in a house? I’d wear leggings and a sparkly tunic and socks!

Id probably wear something like velvet trousers and a sparkly top and take some of these shoes. Tell the hostess they've never been worn outside.
