This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

We do, but only from private companies who donate a token amount to charity.

Maybe I'm too hung up on where my stuff ends up! I'd really rather give it away for nothing to people who need it (which reminds me, Facebook groups are pretty good for giving stuff away, if you have the patience for the "when can you collect/sorry my car broke down" game)

I know what you mean. I also find vinted quite good but it's whether you have the energy to be able to put in it to it for a small financial gain.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 09:19

Morning all! Chilly day here but no snow. DH off to the tip and then to take some boxes of books to a friend, calling en route at DD1’s to offload some bric a brac and boots for Vinted. She’s doing really well at it, pile it high and sell it cheap! All helps pay the bills.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 09:24

@Oioiqueen just saw your comment re Vinted and totally agree it’s a lot of effort! I wouldn’t do it myself. Whenever I’ve sold stuff on eBay I’ve had the can I buy it now emails which are a pain.

It can be a lot of effort. I now only bother if I know it'll sell easily. Plain school uniform and waterproof clothing tends to sell well. Also had some old yoto cards that the kids no longer listen to. Made an easy £15 in an hour from those. I used to package it up and drop it off on my long runs each week. Unfortunately I can't run any more so it has to be tied into runs when I'm using the car (not often) as I live rurally and work from home.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 09:59

Yes I think it’s got to be minimal effort or it ‘s not worth it. DD lives rurally so she drops her parcels at a very quiet post office during the school run. Fuel costs are so high otherwise.

Swanhilde · 03/01/2026 10:01

Quiet day here, bitterly cold and it looks like we've had another sprinkling of snow overnight. I will stay in the warm and get on with my knitting. I will take a trip around the frosty garden later though ❄️☕

Ordered lots more yarn yesterday and plan to knit DS's GF a jumper for her birthday at the end of the month 🧶

Wishing you all a restful day 💕

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 10:33

I’m so impressed by the knitting, @Swanhilde one of many skills I lack!

I am on the sofa with my electric hot water bottle and a gigantic heavy cashmere wrap. It started life as one of those 90s bolero style cardigans with a frilled hem in a very large size, not sure what the ply is called but very thick. It was about a fiver on eBay, in burnt orange, by Johnstons of Elgin. By the time I’d cut off the sleeves and sewn up the openings I had a pair of very thick leg warmers and a wrap 1.8m long by 60cm. Very cosy!

MewithME · 03/01/2026 10:38

Morning all. I'm sat up in bed trying not to think about work on Monday.

There's plenty I should do today. Laundry, Christmas decorations down, bit of a clean....I'm not feeling it though. I may attempt a shower and then plod/rest/plod.

I finished Hijack yesterday ..was so good. But I am aiming to watch the finale of Stranger Things and maybe the new Knives Out film today while I have unfettered TV access without DS here.

I can completely relate to all the decluttering struggles.

I had ignored clutter until my kids left home, but unfortunately that's when I became ill.

I've had a few attempts at it, with help from a friend's teen (who drives, and took things to charity). I had to pay her, but it was worth it. I got rid of the kids old toys, but i still feel overwhelmed.

I'm going to tackle xmas decs today. They need a huge sort out before going away.
But otherwise it's a slow day, got a couple of deliveries coming but not much else happening.

TodayIsatrickyone · 03/01/2026 10:53

Morning everyone. Nice to hear what everyone is up to.
Enjoy your TV @MewithME my DD insisted we watched the final episode of Stranger Things too the other day. Very tense but gripping!

Knitting sounds fabulous @Swanhilde Im envious of your skills too as I can just about manage a scarf but haven't progressed beyond the basics! I do enjoy it tbough so must pick up my latest scarf project again and try and finish it!

@TeaAndStrumpets you sound lovely and cosy today with your wrap and hot water bottle!

A cold and frosty one but bright and sunny with no snow expected down here.
I’m still in bed with a cuppa but don’t feel too bad so thinking we might pop over and see my mum for an hour today. She’s only a 15 min drive but that still feels like a challenge most days so I do feel guilty I don’t go as often as I’d like. Might take the dippy dog as she lives near a little woods that the dog absolutely loved last time so that can be my outdoor goal met at the same time!

Hope everyone can have a manageable day and find a little something to spark joy today. 😊

TodayIsatrickyone · 03/01/2026 10:57

Can also relate to feeling overwhelmed with clutter @BerfyTigot I was thinking next year when/ if my DD goes to uni, DH would be home more and not tied to school runs and that might finally be the time we get on top of it but I think that’s wishful thinking!

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 11:39

Well done facing the declutterring @BerfyTigot it does get easier but I have to say the threat of moving has suddenly galvanised us ! So much stuff. We really need to go through the paperwork but once it goes in a filing cabinet it never gets sorted. Previously DH’s solution was to buy an extra filing cabinet!

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 11:49

Still no sign of our phone line being mended. A full fortnight now so a bit of a digital detox. I got a message from Apple that my cloud back up hasn’t been updated so I should plug my phone in and update it via wi-fi ha ha. Maybe Monday.

our estate agent has being trying to contact us on the landline and assumed we were away because it just goes to voice mail. Anyway hopefully we have a sale, from people who viewed before Christmas. Fingers crossed!

TodayIsatrickyone · 03/01/2026 12:10

Ooh fingers firmly crossed @TeaAndStrumpets! That would be a fabulous start to the new year.
The extra filing cabinet sounds exactly like something my DH would do! Sorting paperwork is also on my to do list alongside various areas in the house including what we refer to as the room of doom!
It’s more of a walk in cupboard than a room but it’s had stuff dumped in for years. It’s a big job as really requires completely emptying and then gradually sorting. DH also has a disability and was diagnosed with long covid a few years ago too so between us we manage the daily stuff but extra jobs like this get left.
I’m embarrassed to show anyone the area but did once have my sons friend follow me in there whilst searching for something. He was about 10 at the time and when I said “ it might be in the room of doom, let me look” He followed me in and went “Wow… I wish we had a room of doom in our house” 😂 Perspective is everything eh!

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 12:47

Thanks for the crossed fingers @TodayIsatrickyone just hoping for the best. We got our hopes up several times last year but several ‘buyers’ dropped out before exchange.

we have a study of doom, with the bulging filing cabinets and rammed bookshelves. It is a dumping ground. When we marketed the house we requested no photos of that room! It was just impossible to get it even half way decent. Everything is getting slowly packed but I think we’ll be declutterring again once the boxes get unpacked!

Stressybetty · 03/01/2026 13:18

Afternoon everyone. Lots of snow overnight here in the north east which the dogs are loving.
Finally up and on first cuppa.
This weekend need to lower MILs bed, clean lounge and pack some stuff away. Also monthly Lidl shop but not keen on venturing out in the snow just yet. Have a good day.

Swanhilde · 03/01/2026 13:23

Thank you for all the knitting love - nearly finished ❤️🧶❤️🧶

Walk around the garden was brisk! 🥶

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/01/2026 14:16

@Stressybetty lovely for the dogs!

@Swanhilde such a nice look!

FuzzyPuffling · 03/01/2026 14:24

I have Done Stuff today.
Cleared away Christmas and given the sitting room a good bottoming, including cleaning the windows ( large Edwardian bay) and the slatted blinds. I'm pleased with myself but an having a good sit down now.

MewithME · 03/01/2026 15:19

I have been out for lunch 😱

Busy thread today! @MewithME where did you go? Was it nice!

Hurrah for the hopeful house sale.

Knotting is gorgeous.

Well done / encouragement for the defluttering, is there a 10 items a day challenge somewhere? Might be helpful to do it in tiny bits OR have three boxes / bags which are marked recycle / sell / donate and just keep going slowly until they are full.

We managed a snowy walk, just under 2 miles. I was very sore afterwards and I’ve been on the sofa since with my heated neck bag and the cat. I’ve eaten too many nibbles and the gravadlax, deckutterjng one item at a time.

Did I share the winter poem I saw yesterday on our walk? https://mybeautfulthings.com/tag/winters-cloak/

Beautiful poem @FurForksSake ❤️

Stressybetty · 03/01/2026 19:52

Wow lots going on this thread today! Walks, lunches out, knitting, sorting out and decluttering. Good luck for potential house sale too @TeaAndStrumpetsHope everyone rests as well!
Really appreciate us having this space @MewithME xx

FurForksSake · 03/01/2026 19:55

I’ve been on the sofa for six hours! But i did do my physio and exercises and stand on the crunchy lawn and look at the moon and stars. We’re now watching traitors with popcorn.

houseofisms · 03/01/2026 20:02

(On chemo) I’ve been sat infront the woodburner all day wrapped in heated blankets , hat glove and scalf. Meanwhile the rest of the household have been walking around in their swim wear because it’s so hot! 😂 I have managed to list a few things for sale
