This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

@Oioiqueen you are doing well sorting out your Christmas stuff! We don’t get much out but always worry about forgetting to tidy every bit away.

Hope you have a great year with lots of energy and strength returning!

We always miss something and did this time too, haha! I have a plastic box in our ottoman for Christmas stuff that doesn't go in the loft so just add it to that.

MewithME · 01/01/2026 20:42

Thanks @VikingNorthUtsire ...yes, we're all fine. He's been his usual sweet self today. A boring lazy day here. Took a few decorations down. Spent the afternoon with Idris Elba (😂) . Been watching Hijack on Apple TV. What fun!

I need a new career as a TV reviewer. It's all I do these days 🙈

@FurForksSake the bulbs look lovely. I also love your wall colour and it sent me down a rabbit hole googling monsterra care. I noticed your support thing so just ordered one! Mines growing horizontally. This makes more sense!

@MewithME I love that! I have two monsteras, definitely helps having the poles.

As per my 2026 intention, I went for a wander around the garden with my cuppa. Most bulbs seem to be up and there's a snowdrop on the brink of flowering. Only ones I couldn't see were the new tulips but maybe it's too early for them 🌷

Came in because I was getting cold and it was spotting with rain. Decided I am going to leave my 'big' coat by the back door so I can put it on whenever the urge to go out comes. Wellies are already there 🧥

This sounds so lovely!

Realisation14 · 01/01/2026 23:01

Still a good sleep evades me but I did manage to stay up to midnight last night for my son's sake. Today was a day at home taking down Christmas decorations, got about half done today and will finish the rest tomorrow.

Happy New Year everyone. I’ve been to work today but absolutely exhausted when I got home so went to bed for a couple of hours as I didn’t sleep last night. I have RA but unable to have my injections for a couple of weeks due to having that awful virus that’s doing the rounds. Off work now until next week so I’m going to have a very lazy weekend.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/01/2026 10:16

lovely to hear from you all!

still no broadband, so I am doing everything on my phone. I now have a sore wrist and elbow from typing and scrolling, and stiff neck from holding up the phone and peering!

I decided to clear some clothes from my wardrobe and found evidence of moths! All cleaned and hoovered in the corners last summer so must have missed one. So cottons into a hot wash, the rest for the freezer a few items at a time. I was going to give loads of stuff to my DD for her Vinted selling, but can’t give her anything without cleaning it first. No actual holes but some webs urgh.

Swanhilde · 02/01/2026 13:21

I am back from a very cold and frosty allotment. We had a light sprinkling of snow overnight and the sky is a deep blue this morning. Very chilly but glorious ☀️🥶

Home now and in bed to warm up. Will have a shower after lunch and finally wash my hair. It's been over a week as I've been having baths to soothe my legs! 🚿

DH is cooking a curry for tea and then we will watch tonight's Traitors 🍛

Have a peaceful day all 💕

MewithME · 02/01/2026 13:58

Hello all. I must say @TeaAndStrumpets you have taken all this no broadband stuff with such good grace. It would be stressing me out badly by now! And moths on top. What a hassle!

I've had a little trip to town. New blazer for DS and a nice coffee and panini while I was out. Had a read of my kindle and passed the time of day with the nice young woman in the coffee shop. She looked so cool. She had black and white hair, one side of each, tattooed freckles and crazy big glasses and piercings but she looked amazing. Like some cartoon character come to life ! Lovely lass.

Back home now and to bed to spend some more time with Idris Elba 😂 Hijack is great fun.

DS has been lovely since the NY Eve blip. He's at his Dad's now and I'm feeling really relieved to not have to look after anyone else for a couple of days.

I've got a big list of things to watch. Sorry @TeaAndStrumpets don't want to rub it in! Hope the Dvds are seeing you though!

I am having a great clear out! So many clothes I’ve kept out of sentiment. I am only keeping nice things that fit me. It feels quite freeing.

Ha we’re managing fine so far!

i’ve always loved Idris Elba. He really has a presence, and he is sheer poetry in motion when he walks, so graceful.

i really envy people like the girl in the coffee shop who are unashamed of having quirky taste. I am more of a blend into the background type!

FurForksSake · 02/01/2026 14:58

afternoon!

moths sounds like a nightmare, but good that there are no holes so far.

we managed a short walk in the glorious Northamptonshire sunshine. Now resting on the sofa.

three more days until the kids go back to school. I’m supposed to be back at work a week on Tuesday after 8 months of sick leave , but Occupational health are asking me to take another month. I’m not sure I need it, but sitting is really irritating things and I can’t speed it up.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/01/2026 15:16

Hello all.
I've made a shepherdless pie for tea, cleaned the hob and various other kitchenny bits and DH cleaned the bathroom.

Now on the sofa under heated throw. Best place to be on such a cold day.

I need to do this too. It is good I agree. A fresh start. And then you can find things easily.

Have had a shower and need to go out and collect a prescription. I'm lucky as the pharmacy is very close by. I do wonder about if we did move, because things are handy here. We're on the top floor though so might not be great but should be Ok for a while yet!

Looks lovely and sunny out but cold I bet

I had a very sincere sounding apology from MIL. Said I would go for a coffee with her. Having really strict boundaries now though.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/01/2026 15:55

@FurForksSake I hope you feel a bit better once you are more mobile. Occupational Health do sound as if they are being careful on your behalf, which is good.

It has been a lovely day here but I suspect we won’t get any snow which will disappoint the grandsons!

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/01/2026 15:59

@FuzzyPuffling where would we be without our heated throws?!
I bought a new rechargeable hot water bottle because I was sick of boiling kettles. It is a bit heavy when I sit but ideal at the foot of the bed.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/01/2026 16:03

@Orangesandlemons77 Brilliant! Boundaries will be your word for 2026.

Your flat does sound very convenient so I can see why you hesitate. We are committed to moving but the selling process has been very stressful. It has forced us to declutter and tidy though, so not all bad!

Oioiqueen · 02/01/2026 16:20

@TeaAndStrumpets I do love a good clear out just not at the moment. The kids keep being given so much stuff and it's driving me insane. My aunt bless her is downsizing but keeps giving me the stuff she's hoarded from her own kids. I don't need age 11 onesies when my eldest is only 6. I keep trying to tell people that I have chemo fatigue so on my good days I need to be working and not sorting through everyone else's hoards that keep being dumped on us. Then family seem to have a Shein and Temu obsession so the kids keep being given piles of tat. I sound incredibly ungrateful but I do not have either the physical get up and go or the mental brainpower to do much more than the basics at the moment. Bless DH he thought I was being a minimalistic freak but even he is starting to see it now that he is taking a lot of the house upkeep off me. The clothing bins in our village are full so I can't dispatch a lot of it there. Honestly I think I'm going to have to have a large sort out over Thursday and Friday, load up the car and just get rid of so much stuff. I've already got two large charity bags full on my office floor. I honestly feel suffocated but better for having written all that 😂

DH and I worked through the utility and some of the playroom on New Years eve and refilled all of the rubbish bins. It was very cathartic and made such a difference so he is on my side to work through more.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/01/2026 16:39

@Oioiqueen yes I agree. Whatever happened to jumble sales? They were always great for offloading all sorts of things. We unfortunately also have stuff inherited from DH’s parents and cousin. It just seems so heartless to bin things like that, but it does take over.

VikingNorthUtsire · 02/01/2026 16:47

I really want to declutter more but I get stuck at the point of knowing where to take it. Clothes and shoes are great, they can go in the big bins in the supermarket car park. But I don't get to the shops much.

Our school take a lot of items for their Christmas and summer fayre. Unfortunately I was really struggling prior to the Christmas one otherwise I'd probably have got rid of some of it. I do miss a good jumble sale.

Do you get many charity bags through the post? We seem to get loads at once then nothing for a while so it builds. They are good for just putting kerb side and forgetting about them and they magically disappear.

We do, but only from private companies who donate a token amount to charity.

Maybe I'm too hung up on where my stuff ends up! I'd really rather give it away for nothing to people who need it (which reminds me, Facebook groups are pretty good for giving stuff away, if you have the patience for the "when can you collect/sorry my car broke down" game)

FurForksSake · 02/01/2026 17:17

@VikingNorthUtsire locally if it’s a nice day people post on the Facebook group they’ve left xyz outside number 32 and please help yourself. Tends to work quite well! Does freecycle still exist?
