This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

Gentle Pilates sounds lovely@Orangesandlemons77 that is a good plan. I used to really enjoy it but it was such a pain to battle the traffic and then park. It became impossible and I missed a lot when I was in a crash.

Yes avoid MIL! She is a dead weight on your life by the sound of it.

BerfyTigot · 30/12/2025 13:52

Afternoon all. I tried to have a quiet day yesterday but had multiple deliveries and interruptions so it didn't pan out.

Managed to get out with dog for a short walk and a sit down on a bench in the sun 🌞 Good for my anxiety.

Pleased to find that my blood pressure is back down again after a few stressful weeks before xmas.

I want to try to be a bit healthier this year- nothing big or impressive, just leaning towards healthier foods more often. And gentle exercise when I can manage it.

No ridiculous goals, I just want to steer gently through what are likely to be some tumultuous months ahead.

And I'm going to try something new once a week!

Anyone else got intentions for the year?

TodayIsatrickyone · 30/12/2025 14:08

Totally get the frustration of wanting to get out but not being fit enough @MewithME but I think you made the right call as honestly the PEM after doing stuff is usually a lot worse when you’re pushing it to start with.
I went out yesterday to see some visiting relatives as it was their last day in the area. I was out less than 2 hours and thought I’d got away with it but woke up at 2am feeling dreadful and still do so honestly wondering if it was worth it today. Slept terribly, I think it’s the adrenaline maybe. Plus I went downstairs to search for pain killers in the middle of the night, the dog followed and wanted to go out, I stood out with her as could hear a very loud screeching! An owl I think but by the time all that had happened I was wide awake! So a day of very little today. Listening to audio book, hoping to nap later as DH taking DD out for a bit. DS & GF back home yesterday and feels very quiet without them both though I know my body desperately needs some quieter days.

@TeaAndStrumpets Yay finally some action re the pole! Fingers crossed for wifi very soon. 🤞🤞 Your DDs dog sounds very sweet, our little rescue does not cope with visitors at all bless her. We had to put her in another room at the weekend when SIL came. I’ve been trying not to as she needs to adjust but she can be a lot.
Took her a while with DS & GF when they first arrived before xmas but she’s now realised theyre in her little gang and they get waggy tails & licks instead of non stop barking so that’s been very nice to see that she can accept new people eventually.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 14:14

@BerfyTigot that is a great idea to think about!

We were hoping to move before winter this year so a lot of my warm clothes have been boxed up. Rediscovering them after all these months I realised that I don’t 100% like most of them and they have been kept for warmth only, because I rarely get out. I am going to be ruthless and dispose of a lot of things, and just keep things that can look good anywhere. A few things I will keep as my “funeral’” outfit, that just saves thinking.

More on the psychological side I want to stop worrying about the problems of others. My worrying doesn’t help them, in fact they will be fine in the end.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 14:25

@TodayIsatrickyone oh yes the adrenaline in the night is just so awful! Even having a lovely day, the stimulation is too much.

poor little dog he was wildly excited and wanted to lick the 11 month old who is crawling and standing, but it’s not really safe.

He lost his best friend this year when the cat died. They used to go on the prowl together and would curl up in the same basket to sleep.

Little granddaughter also had a lovely time learning to tear paper - not a skill to be encouraged usually.

TodayIsatrickyone · 30/12/2025 14:32

@TeaAndStrumpets Yes I find it’s over stimulation! Plus I’m re winding conversations in my head which I think is partly down to not seeing that many people any more. When I do it just feels a lot to process if that makes sense and it’s all using mental energy I guess.
Sounds like you had a lovely time too watching your little granddaughter. The simple pleasures are the best at all ages!

MewithME · 30/12/2025 15:07

@TeaAndStrumpets you just reminded me of a forgotten thing. Toddlers tearing books. We had some lovely picture books when DS was little that couldn't be shredded! And a few I ended up sellotaping!

Just finished my play. Was amazing in the end. How do actors do that? Remember all those words and give a 3 hour performance night after night? It's incredible.

DS will be back soon. Going to put the kettle on. I was given some lovely teas for Christmas so working my way through those.

I don't do resolutions as such but I do want to have a better life with this thing. More joy. Less stress.

@MewithME We are getting a bigger TV after we move house so that is just the sort of thing to see on a big screen! Our current one is 32” but hard to see subtitles.

Oh well, all the chaps have gone home but still no broadband. Maybe they’ll return tomorrow? Maybe?? We have tried switching the router off then on again. Have asked DD1 to ring and check, she always says she’s ringing on behalf of her elderly parents, so they are very helpful!

is anyone else due for snow? We are given 35% chance on Thursday, 95% on Friday and Saturday. Grandchildren will be ecstatic!

FurForksSake · 30/12/2025 17:18

Evening! Sounds hopeful for broadband this side of 2027!

@MewithME I don’t like resolutions either, I like new years wishes or nudge-words , choosing a word to prioritise for the year. I think mine will be “recognise” or “create”.

managed physio and a short walk. We are having pizza in the pizza oven tonight. I’ve made the dough in the mixer and it’s rising.

cleaner has been so we are fairly clean and tidy for having family in for new year. I’ve already told dh I’ll disappear if it’s all too much.

MewithME · 30/12/2025 17:36

@FurForksSake ohh quite like that. Does it have to be a verb?

The pizza sounds great.

I've ordered a chippy tea! So sick of cooking this holiday. I'd happily cook for myself but DS and his restrictive food is putting me off so much just now. Poor kid. Not his fault and he isn't as bad as some but it's hard work during holidays thinking what to give him that isn't the same four things on a loop.

I finished Pluribus today. It's so good. Forgot who else was watching it.

Feeling slightly sad about our party of two for New Year. Still ...we will play some games and make the best of it.

Possibly snow on Sunday but I live on a hill so really don't want any. I get worried about getting back home.

FurForksSake · 30/12/2025 18:26

No, it can be a theme, a word, something that resonates with you that you want to focus on for the year. I’ll set myself some calendar alerts with the word to gently remind myself to check in on how I’m doing.

Stressybetty · 30/12/2025 18:42

Putting off any New Year thoughts, I'm really not in the right frame of mind.
Getting annoyed and frustrated with myself, back at work on Friday and have done so little. Don't even feel rested or at peace with anything.
This next year will be just as stressful, legal stuff to push, will need to move rented house again. MIL slowly getting worse.

Middlemarch123 · 30/12/2025 19:15

Hi lovelies, hope you’re all okay.
Went for my spa day with DD today, it was lovely, pool was lovely and warm. We went supermarket shopping after, and I was amazed how energised and supple I felt. I swam 10 lengths, think I could have done more, but didn’t want to push my luck. However, since being home, and despite house being well heated, about 19 degrees, I am freezing and can’t get warm. I really struggle with regulating my temperature, wearing slipper socks, pjs, oodle, laying on a hot water bottle, and under a duvet on the sofa! This time of year is hard isn’t it? Hugs to all, stay warm, take it as easy as you can xx

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 19:56

@MewithME we were half way through Pluribus when our internet went down! It was so well done, can’t wait to finish it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 19:58

@FurForksSake that sounds good, like sending messages to your future self.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 20:02

@Stressybetty that sounds so hard. I hope you get through the legal stuff OK and find a new house. It is wonderful that your MIL has a home with you but it must be a constant worry xx

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 20:07

Hi @Middlemarch123 temperature regulation can be so hard. The swimming sounds lovely though.

I wear so many layers in winter but also in summer I need to wear long sleeves and my trusty sheepskin slippers!

Bless you, when it was hot last summer and everyone was stripping off, under fans, and couldn’t sleep because of the heat, I was like finally this is bliss, under my duvet, finally warm after freezing for months x

Ha yes it was just nice for me, while DH was a sweaty heap!

Day at a time @Stressybetty I'm starting to get anxious about work and I've not seen family. I need to get my head in the right place in I might need to make some changes this year but I am trying not to think about it today. I'm still pretty unwell. I need rest.

More TV!

We started watching the first series of Patience in channel 4, it’s good!

Songlines · 30/12/2025 20:49

I've been home for 48 hours and done very little apart from sitting on the sofa watching mindless TV. This afternoon I had a friend visit with her 11 month old puppy..... enough said, although he is very cute. Tomorrow I'm taking a friend to visit a mutual friend in hospital then I'm planning to be in bed and fast asleep long before the start of 2026!
Latest set of bloods taken today, probably be well into next week before results appear, thanks to the Bank Holiday.
I hope everyone is OK, that internet has been restored and that 2026 is kind to us all

I've just finished that and thought it was excellent. Let's hope season 2 is as good - only a week to go

FurForksSake · 30/12/2025 21:05

Seeing the ad for the second series was what reminded us to try it. Perfect timing! I’m glad you’ve also enjoyed it. It’s interesting and not too jarring.
