This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

I have done nothing today. Feeling sad that DS is with his father tomorrow and the weekend and so we haven't done much in our time off together. He just wants to be at home with his games. We have had some fun playing but I still wish I was well and could have made the trip to mum's or been out for a meal or SOMETHING.

Feeling a bit sad about back at work next week and I really shouldn't complain because I will have had two weeks off by then.

I feel like a jelly. No strength at all and tinnitus and buzzing is awful today.

@LondonLady1980 well done! It’s so easy to let our lives become small. Seeing everyone else carrying on as normal makes it worse, you feel so left out. Here’s hoping it gives you a boost.

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/12/2025 16:08

@MewithME judging by the crowds as we drove through our town you are better off at home by the fire. I keep seeing snow warnings for next week so you and DS will possibly have some fun if that happens! Sorry it’s all so tricky.

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/12/2025 16:17

Used up all my spoons and then some travelling to meet DD2 and family at DD1’s house. I am shattered from playing with 11 month old granddaughter. She is really full of beans and so sweet.

good news for us, we now have a replacement telegraph pole on the roadside. No wires yet but it’s a step forward! Just in case we don’t get reconnected this week I’ve bought the complete set of Dinnerladies and a collection of Fred and Ginger movies. They always cheer me up.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/12/2025 17:08

< Waves in sympathy to all>

I've got a trapped nerve in my back and am very annoyed with it. It blooming well hurts.

Stressybetty · 29/12/2025 17:37

@TeaAndStrumpets Dinnerladies is brilliant! Good that there's some progress on the pole front.
Hi to everyone else, I would send spoons if I could!
Another nothing day, sorted dogs out, had a cuppa and went back to bed. Woke about 4pm, had some toast and will get MIL sorted out soon.
Finished 1883 and 1923 on Netflix, no point starting Yellowstone until we see season 2. Watching the last Samari Standing.
Feel a bit clearer headed from the sleep, tomorrow we must do some more cleaning and tidying.
3 of the dogs on heat, one is extra clingy and won't leave my lap, one is sleepy the other extra bouncy and barky.
Need to get a bit of shopping but putting that off till tomorrow also.

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/12/2025 17:50

Oh no @FuzzyPuffling ouch! Hope it is better soon.

@Stressybetty sounds like a restful day overall, with a nice nap. I must confess I got my head down for a bit too today, sometimes it’s the only answer!

FurForksSake · 29/12/2025 17:52

Managed another walk, it was only a mile and it hurt, but I did it! Physio tomorrow and I’m hopeful he’ll be pleased. My neck and left shoulder suck though.

I just had a hot bath full of Epsom salts and had my new body bath pillow; success! My bath wasn’t painful!

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/12/2025 18:26

@FurForksSake the body bath pillow sounds good, glad it works. I have bad luck with that sort of thing. I bought a lumbar support pillow for lying in bed but it is just too thick and wide for me, feels like I’m on the rack! I think I’m too short for it. It came shrink wrapped so it’s difficult to re wrap, so I’m using it on the sofa with all my many cushions. The sofa seat is far too deep so no good for my short legs and I need cushions behind me. The sofas look lovely but can’t wait to replace them!

FurForksSake · 29/12/2025 18:30

I’m the same with pillows, I’m never quite comfortable and have also bought various pillows to help me. I’ve got quite a good triangular wedge which works well with my pregnancy pillow for being propped up in bed. At night I sleep with one pillow, a neck support one. My neck and back still hurt 🤣

Can you imagine a day without pain? That’s a myth right?

Make sure you get compensation! I'm sure you're entitled to it when you have no service!

Gosh yes. Another Princess and the Pea here! My neck is my worst bit really. There is no way I would ever go to a hairdresser again because of the back wash basin. When my neck is stiff I get vertigo.

Hopefully yes! Paid for Apple+ etc, had to buy extra data, all that.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 10:15

Morning!

After my busy day yesterday I was too wired to sleep. I dropped off in the early hours then woke up screaming thinking the house was on fire. Obviously it wasn’t! I have a recurring dream that the bedroom is filled with smoke. Every few months when my adrenaline levels are high. So horrible when I’d had a lovely day.

We got a new telegraph pole yesterday, now there is an Openreach van parked outside. Fingers crossed!

MewithME · 30/12/2025 10:18

Keeping it all crossed for you @TeaAndStrumpets !

Dream sounds awful.

I didn't sleep well either. Woke a couple of times and started worrying about work. I wish I could properly switch off. 😭

DS is seeing his Dad today. Don't know whether I should try and leave the house which would be great mentally, or if I need to prioritise my physical health and flop on the sofa and watch films all day. I suspect the latter but feel like I've wasted my annual leave.

@MewithME I think you should compromise. Get out of the house for a few hours, buy yourself a bunch of flowers and something nice to eat, then head back home and chill out!

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2025 10:41

This came up on my Facebook feed and it made me think of us all.

We're all doing ok!

Ha...thanks @TeaAndStrumpets . Your suggestion made me realise I'm in no fit state. Thinking about being out the house for 'afew hours ' feels huge. Instead DS has gone out now and I'm going to eat something nice and watch a play on National Theatre Live. Sofa, fire, food, rest.

Any progress with the broadband? 😁

How's everyone else today?

Very exciting here @MewithME from my sofa I have just observed a chap in a cherry picker doing something to our own pole which is the next one along…..oh the suspense!!

Yes if the very thought of getting out is too much then you NEED to stay put. Enjoy your calming day!

MewithME · 30/12/2025 12:36

I've gone for a Streetcar Named Desire but not sure I am going to listen to the Southern drawl for 2 hours more, as fabulous as Gillian Anderson is.

Cherry picker excitement...ooooo...drum roll....!

Yes three vans, one chap up pole, three sitting in the vans . Maybe they’re from health and safety.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 12:57

DH has been to the post and reports there are now two cherry pickers and they are working several houses away as well, so presumably a lot of connections were pulled out.

Gosh I wish I had net curtains to twitch!

Orangesandlemons77 · 30/12/2025 13:01

I am doing Ok thanks, still in bed and DH is making some coffee.

Have rejoined the local gym with a pool, they have an offer on, will probably hardly make it but it gets quiet there in the middle of the day so could maybe just try a really gentle swim. And they do the really nice gentle pilates class as well, I will see how it goes.

Maybe I can go there on the weekend when MIL tends to come round (just turns up) so everyone else has to deal with her. Or we might be out.

Hope everyone having a restful time now Christmas is finally over. DH said maybe we could go away next year. That could be a good plan, a cottage or something perhaps.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2025 13:03

Obviously my life is very boring. Maybe this is how DD1’s Jack Russell feels all the time! He was in such a frenzy at the family do yesterday he had to be exiled to the caravan outside. Mind you he gets over excited by anything….car in the distance, a bird, the postman…He sat on my knee for a while but he was too overwhelmed with joy at seeing everyone to stay still.
