How often do you clean your bathroom?

Exactly that really. Just finished cleaning the bathroom and got me wondering, how often does everyone else generally clean the bathroom?

OP posts:
OnLockdown · 06/11/2025 23:47

Our cleaner does it once a week. I clean the toilet and sink just before she arrives because I can't let her see the state of them.

PinkTonic · 06/11/2025 23:48

My cleaner does it weekly and I go over the basin and loo seat if I notice it could do with it.

Sad that several people have mentioned using wipes.

Can I ask why? How does your bathroom floor get dirty in a day? We wash ours about once a year.

You clean your bathroom floor ONCE A YEAR? 🤣🤣🤣 Is that a typo? What's the point in doing it once a year. It's as good as pointless.

TicTac80 · 06/11/2025 23:51

I should probably clean my bathroom more often, but I clean as I go - so toilet given a quick clean whenever needed and I also do it last thing at night (i.e. wipe down with an antibacterial surface wipe each night and put a bit of toilet cleaner/bleach down each night). I've told the DC that I expect them to leave it clean too (so no skid marks in the bowl etc). Sink is cleaned 2-3 times a week (quick wipe down with anti-bac wipe). Bath/shower is rinsed, squegeed and then sprayed down with shower spray after each use. Floor is hoovered and mopped each day....by my robovac!!!! I steam clean floors once a week-ish though.

I wish I had a more structured way of doing things like @ThejoyofNC - I bet your house is absolutely spotless! - but I'm mostly too knackered from work to do a huge amount!

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 06/11/2025 23:51

Usually every Saturday, properly, unless it doesn’t look grubby or I just CBA, In which case I just give it a quick wipe.

shower screen squidgeed after each use, basin and loo as required in the week.

I never do it as thoroughly as DH though, and I CBA last weekend, so hopefully he cracks on and does a proper job this weekend.

I don't clean our bathroom.
I'm sick of it.
It's horrible and outdated and ugly, I hate it, so I don't clean it.
1970s floor to ceiling wall tiles. A broken bath. A rusty over the bath shower. A rusty shower curtain pole. Stickleback plastered ceiling. A 1970s rusty ugly ceiling light. Really ugly window. Mottled cold blue lino on the floor. Black mildew on the wooden bath panel. Mold spores all over the wall. A cheap nasty hollow plywood door that is warped at the bottom and all the paint is peeling off.
I also hate how frequently it needed cleaning, and how rapidly it got in a state after I'd spent ages cleaning it.
Terrible problem with thick limescale in the toilet bowl. Cannot get rid of it. It is like concrete. Bought 100 limescale removers and none of them work. The poo gets caught on the thick limescale so it has turned brown in colour. No amount of scrubbing removes it. And if I were to use an abrasive scouring pad to try and clean the limescale, it would scratch the porcelain toilet bowl.
So now I don't clean it. None of it. Not the disgusting toilet. Not the ugly tiles. Not the black mildew. Not the atrocious floor lino.
I go in, use the loo or have a mega fast shower, and get out of there asap.
I've noticed that since I've stopped cleaning it, DH hasn't bothered to clean it either. He just keeps moaning about it. This makes me even more think I'm not cleaning it. If he can't be bothered to keep it clean then why should I. And it's getting filthier by the day. I haven't cleaned it for over 4 months so far.

Edited

You need a new bathroom... then feel like cleaning and keeping it nice!
Black mildew though, be careful breathing it in, esp when having a shower, if anything to clean, that's the bit imo.. and keep a window open a crack so bathroom dries out.

And forgive me if already tried, can get industrial strength hydrochloric acid for thick limescale, but really nasty stuff to use. Must stronger than normal limescale removers we can buy from supermarkets. If not, bleach will turn the limescale back to white after a poop!

Twice a week - Friday and Monday. Monday is a lesser effort. I have three as well grr (well one is just a loo); luckily one is en-suite to DS2's room and he is at uni so I only do that one every so often. Clean the loos as needed obvs.

I hate cleaning the bathroom so I made the days for it the core starting point for my cleaning schedule.

Never use bleach ugh. Why bleach the dirt? Just clean it off.

@ThejoyofNC I’m sorry what? I thought I was a clean freak.

ThePoshUns · 06/11/2025 23:56

Twice a week, 3 adults, 2 bathrooms

Happyjoe · 07/11/2025 00:00

Cynic17 · 06/11/2025 22:36

Exactly! I have never bleached a loo in my life - it's just not necessary, and bleach is vile stuff.

What do you use? I remember renting a room from an old childhood friend for a few months and her toilet was brown (not poop, just brown).. 5 mins of bleach and it was sparkling white, all stains gone. She wondered how I'd done it as nothing she'd tried worked.

Because it's very good at killing bacteria in a notoriously potentially dirty room?

Lookinggood123 · 07/11/2025 00:02

Good clean once a week (descale, clean floors, scrub bath, wipe shelves, clean all round toilet etc), toilet and sink cleaned/wiped daily, floors if needed during the week. Do a deep clean of all tiles maybe every 6 months. Have two bathrooms and cloakroom. Hate cleaning bathrooms but it has to be done weekly IMO

EmeraldDreams73 · 07/11/2025 00:03

Oh God I feel so grubby 😂

Loos are kept clean as we go here, sinks wiped over (only ever by me) when they appear to need it. Shower screens are squeegeed but tiles are shocking and I'm always doing half a job with a new widget then abandoning it when I run out of time. Just ordered some new mould cleaner and have high hopes but we'll see...v old house with plenty more renovation still to do and I am DESPERATE for a cleaner but can't afford for now. General standards are appalling compared to 20 years ago. Something had to give and it was housework.

caringcarer · 07/11/2025 00:03

Cleaner gives bathroom, ensuite, shower room and downstairs cloakroom a good clean once a week and everyone who uses it has to keep it tidy and clean. No young DC though. Teens manage to keep it clean. I squirt Harpic around rims usually once in between cleans and I think DH does the same.

Hicupping · 07/11/2025 01:10

Bleach is safe for water and environment. It's one of the best things you can use down your loo or clean your grouting and it's cheap without impacting the environment. Plus it's zero effort. It's also used as eye, face and body sprays though very dilute.

Cliveatnight · 07/11/2025 01:16

Just before the letting agent inspection i.e every six months
It takes a while to make it look respectable

How long does it take everyone to clean their bathroom? (Mainly aimed at those that say “full clean x1 weekly)

I am amazed at the cleanliness on this thread

I can get both of mine (both small) done within an hour as long as it’s done regularly.

EsmeMulligan · 07/11/2025 06:09

MabelsBeats · 06/11/2025 22:02

The cleaner does them, I don’t.

Not even if there are skidmarks? Do you leave them for the cleaner?

I'm just guessing, it might be more? It doesn't get dirty. Noone goes in there in shoes. There is a bath mat. I don't know what you lot are doing in your bathrooms but All that happens in there is people getting clean so I can't imagine why people need to clean the floor weekly or whatever. I sweep or wipe dust every so often, around the skirting, as it needs it.

Me too. And so much bleach sloshing about. The environment is doomed. Its all totally unnecessary.

Keffert · 07/11/2025 06:48

Loo and sink wiped over every day (damp cloth for the sink, loo roll for the loo)
Once a week the bath/shower/tiles are cleaned. As well as the top of the unit and the windowsill. And the floor.

More thorough clean (bath panel, towel rail, shower head, walls, behind the cabinet, behind the sink pedestal etc) done sporadically. Some of those things used to be done every week, the rest every month. Now I just cannot be arsed with all the cleaning.

Mikart · 07/11/2025 07:04

Dh does it weekly. He loves cleaning 😀

clary · 07/11/2025 07:16

Pretty sure bleach is not a good thing for the environment.

And for me, bleaching the loo is just going to make the yuk white yuk? It won't actually clean off the marks.

I don't think the fact that it is used in eye sprays (? what are they anyway?) and hair dyes is a reason to put it down the loo tbh. I dye my hair but I dn't want to dye the bathroom, just clean it.

Agree re wipes – why not use a cloth then stick it in the towels wash?

EleanorReally · 07/11/2025 07:18

less than I should
probably fortnightly

EleanorReally · 07/11/2025 07:19

i clean my loo when necessary though, i wouldnt leave it dirty, and the basin, if necessary

It does clean off the marks. But you’re not the first person to think that bleach simply turns poo white 🙄.

The shape of my toilet bowl is such that it gets dirty very easily and the only thing that cleans it is bleach - before I got this toilet I never used bleach.
