How often do you clean your bathroom?

Exactly that really. Just finished cleaning the bathroom and got me wondering, how often does everyone else generally clean the bathroom?

OK I stand corrected on the bleach issue. I don’t use it personally – mainly bc for sure I would get it on my (probably black) clothes!

Putting in a plea for ditching the disposable wipes in favour of cleaning cloths tho. I cut up old joggers and T shirts to use.

I’m feeling a bit grubby now 😕

Don't. That is totally unnecessary.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 07/11/2025 07:28

Lucky if it’s done once a month. I do spot clean as I go so the loo will be cleaned daily, sinks and taps whenever toothpaste is on them. Shower gets sprayed with the post shower cleaner. Tub is cleaned down after use. Floor gets a dusting with a microfibre broom every few days.

Every once in bc a wjile I’ll come and do it from top to bottom. Tiles, windows wash down skirtings etc.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/11/2025 07:33

Don't people get soap in the basin from washing their hands, toothpaste!

Sounds to me as tho you clean it more than I do! Not sure what others mean by cleaning the bathroom, but I mean cleaning the loo, cleaning the taps and sink, cleaning the bath or shower, cleaning the floor. So what you do on a regular.

I don't think most people mean they clean the bathroom windows every couple of days?

violetcuriosity · 07/11/2025 07:38

Once a week properly, shower gets sqweegied or however you spell it after every use and toilets bleached daily.

CowTown · 07/11/2025 07:40

Whole bathroom: once a fortnight
Sinks: once a week

Are you joking?

It's hard to tell on here but I'm baffled at the people who think it needs cleaning more than once or twice a week. Most of what @ThejoyofNC describes sounds like annual spring cleaning not daily jobs.

You're either cleaning something that's not had chance to get dirty, just why? Or someone is leaving filth if it actually does need cleaning, so they need to stop it, rather than just continuously cleaning up after them.

Yes, but it's rinsed away at the time, no 'cleaning' required. Or if there's a spot of toothpaste, it could just stay there. Nothing bad would happen.

I did used to spend ages in there cleaning as boys seemed to get wee splashed around the toilet area. I once walked in on my then 6yo who had been weeing with no hands and was reliant on pressure for aim (apparently all the boys at school did this) fixing that meant a lot less cleaning. Also put in new bathrooms which seem to resist dirt better.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/11/2025 07:49

Sink and loo, midweek. Whole bathroom Saturdays. I use the squeegee on the shower screen and tiles every morning after I shower, though. I live on my own.

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 07/11/2025 07:50

Everyday. It only takes a few minutes and means I never have to do a deep clean.

SisterTeatime · 07/11/2025 07:57

I hate cleaning bathrooms so I clean them randomly. DH and I are quite clean in general so the main thing is keeping on top of limescale by giving the loos a good scrub about once a week. If people are coming to stay I do a more thorough clean including getting everything all shiny. I clean the showers by scrubbing with a dish scrubber thing while im showering.

MabelsBeats · 07/11/2025 07:58

EsmeMulligan · 07/11/2025 06:09

Not even if there are skidmarks? Do you leave them for the cleaner?

We don’t seem to have that issue in my house - thank goodness! 🤣

youegg · 07/11/2025 07:59

ThejoyofNC · 06/11/2025 21:42

Every day I'll wash the floors, clean the toilet, wash the sink, bath, mirrors, windows etc.

Once a week I'll do a full clean where I empty and clean the cupboards, wash the walls and take the extractor fan off to clean it.

What the hell? What kind of toxic shits do your family do that means you need to clean an extractor fan once a week? I can’t say I’ve ever cleaned a bathroom extractor fan in 30 years of bathroom ownership.

Also are they pissing up the walls? Smearing stuff in cupboards? The mind boggles why a cupboard needs a deep clean every week.

This sounds like someone desperately trying to find some kind of meaning in their life.

Bleach is safe for water and environment. It's one of the best things you can use down your loo or clean your grouting and it's cheap without impacting the environment. Plus it's zero effort. It's also used as eye, face and body sprays though very dilute.

Bleach is really bad for the environment. Google it!

This is the type of thread that leaves me feeling thoroughly disgusted with myself 😂

Me too Blush

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 07/11/2025 08:26

Just wondering - people who are cleaning less than weekly/fortnightly….what about when guests come? Do you make sure it’s clean for them?

Luckyingame · 07/11/2025 08:29

Every day.

SirChenjins · 07/11/2025 08:32

Geneticsbunny · 06/11/2025 22:10

Once a week.

@SirChenjins are you being sarcastic? If not then how do you get anything else done and if it isn't rude to ask, why do you clean every time? Do you have ocd?

Yes, very definitely being sarcastic 😂 But this is MN, where people wash their sheets every day and clean their houses with a toothbrush.

Once a week-ish here, slightly more often if it looks extra manky or if we have guests round. Life is too short to clean every day, plus working full time means I have neither the time nor the inclination.

Geneticsbunny · 07/11/2025 08:35

@SirChenjins phew! I can't imagine anything worse than cleaning the bathroom every time someone used it!

ObliviousCoalmine · 07/11/2025 08:37

Cleaner does it fully once a week. I’ll bleach the toilets and wipe the sink down in between.

NeedToUpTheExercise · 07/11/2025 08:38

Allthecoloursoftherainbow4 · 06/11/2025 22:37

I was about to comment the same! Not a chance is anyone doing this who's working full time outside the home

Imo @ThejoyofNC was exaggerating for comic effect.

We blade down then dry the shower screen and tiles after each use.
Loo, sink and window sill are wet wiped with loo roll daily then cleaned weekly.
I’m a great fan of white vinegar bought in 5l quantities. Neat it cleans the floor to ceiling tiles and removes limescale from taps. Mixed with washing up liquid it thoroughly cleans all else without scratching or dulling surfaces. After each application I rinse then buff dry. An old toothbrush for grouting and changeable heads on a swivel mop make the jobs easy.
Those who don’t like bleach in the loo now have me thinking of alternatives. Thanks.
