Good news - I am home and my week of work is done. Hooray! 🥳

Bad news - heating is broken ... 🥶😭

Man is coming out in the morning to fix it 🤞but this evening we are huddled under blankets with a fan heater in the front room 😬

DH is making pizza for tea, that's if his dough rises 🤣

Early night with many hot water bottles I think. Why does this happen when it's Baltic outside? 🤔

Hope everyone else is staying warm 💕

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/11/2025 17:28

I have been having a break from MIL as she has gone to stay with her daughter for a week or two, and it is nice not having that pressure of talking etc. making me realise things might have to change I think.

Quiet day here, trying to have the effort to cut up a squash for dinner.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/11/2025 19:07

@Swanhilde that is terrible timing! The temperature will be well down this week, hope you get through it OK.

@Orangesandlemons77 I imagine cutting up squash is hard work, but a lovely winter food. Glad you're having a little break from MIL, it must feel relentless at times.

VikingNorthUtsire · 19/11/2025 21:20

Oh no @Swanhilde . I read that as "heart is broken" though - honestly not sure which is worst in this weather.

Happy birthday @TeaAndStrumpets 🎂

I've been at work today. Tomorrow I'm at home so going to try the new soup maker. I dragged myself round Tesco on Tuesday only to find the frozen veg cabinets completely empty for some reason - I'd been hoping to try out a zero effort lunch. After a little weep of exhausted rage, I bought a packt of pre-chopped root veg and will hope for the best.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/11/2025 22:02

Thanks @VikingNorthUtsire ! I've had a nice day.

How frustrating the freezers were empty just when you needed them. I hope you enjoy your soup after all that effort! It's definitely soup weather.

It's going to extremely cold overnight here with a dusting of snow at 6am. So it will be pretty.

Morning all!

I overdid it a bit yesterday and had a bad night with racing heart. Woke up after a horrible nightmare about being chased by an attacker...so glad to be up and awake.

It's my birthday today. I don't feel old at all but my body begs to differ!

It's a busy day for DH who has to get the house viewer-ready for tomorrow. Everywhere is hoovered and/or mopped. Just need a good tidy up really. We will then spend days finding things we've hidden ;-)

Happy birthday for yesterday! Sorry about the nightmare, they're just awful.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/11/2025 07:29

I've had girlcat snuggled up to me all night long. It must be cold! ( She's lovely and warm though.)

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 07:38

@FuzzyPuffling in my younger days if I ever worried about my weight DH would quote "A fat woman is like an extra blanket in winter" so probably there is some such saying about cats!

Ha ha...in which case I am doubly protected!

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 07:46

Thanks @Realisation14 much appreciated.

It all comes out at night, doesn't it? I had a perfectly peaceful night but at 6am I woke up and my brain was buzzing. I wish I could shut it off for a bit.

It was predicted to snow last night but it's just really cold. I bought a lovely coat in the Lands End sale this year very puffy with a furry hood, so I'll look like Nanook of the North this morning!

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/11/2025 08:56

Morning all, hope the heating gets fixed today @Swanhilde such awful timing just as it gets properly cold.

@TeaAndStrumpets hope the viewing goes well today. And the new coat sounds fabulous! I’m with you on the buzzing brain and just wanting to switch it off. I’ve tried everything from distraction, meditation and medication this week but no avail!

My DD has been fast tracked to the specialist re some recent health issues and in the daytime logically, I think the nurse is just being ultra cautious and thorough but at night, my brain just goes to the what if and worst case scenario. Trying so hard to be bright and breezy in front of teen so she’s not worried unnecessarily but I’m not sure I’m pulling it off. I’m worried sick and of course the stress is not helping my body that seems to be constantly crashing just now.

Hope everyone can have an okay day and at least it’s nearly Friday again! Sorry to all those struggling this week.

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 09:05

@TodayIsatrickyone thanks for the good wishes! I'm sitting here like Lady Muck while DH rushes round tidying. We have had so many ups and downs with selling I've got more philosophical. Either they'll buy it or they won't!

I think all my major life stresses have been caused by anxiety about my children. I can totally understand your worry about your DD. I really hope it goes well so you can be reassured.

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/11/2025 09:40

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets I just need to keep things in perspective and not overthink. Hopefully we’ll get a better idea after next week’s appointment.

Glad DH is tidying and I like to think of that role as chief supervisor from the sofa! It’s a role I do well! In fact when I get downstairs today I shall be doing the same as very little housework has been done this week so my DH will be doing the same bless him!

Stressybetty · 20/11/2025 10:29

Morning all, lots of snow here in Newcastle. Dogs and remaining 3 pups are loving it. Wrapped up working from home with fan heater and electric throw over knees. Very glad I work from home and don't have to struggle into work (old building freezing and draughty). Had a temporary crown on Tuesday, anyone else react to the injections? I end up shaky and freezing cold. I have asked for adrenaline free in the past but it didn't make much difference. MIL somehow managed to have a run of leaky nights so my washing is piled high. Probably should order a bit more bedding as it's only going to get worse. Headachy tired, sinusy and cold today, would have loved to stay in bed! Love to all

Swanhilde · 20/11/2025 10:46

I have my massage later and I'm still fretting about what other affects it might have on me. My sleep is still not good so if it relaxes me even a little I'll be pleased.

The place is near to Sainsbury's so I'm going to have a mouch around there first. That's a big treat for me as I never venture into big supermarkets usually. Will head for the Christmas isles 🎄

Heating engineer is due this afternoon 🤞

Keep warm everyone 🥶

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 11:09

@Stressybetty @Swanhilde Sending warming thoughts your way!

Swanhilde · 20/11/2025 15:46

We have heat! 🥳 And I'm leaving it on constant now until the house warms up 🥵🤣

Sainsbury's was good - bought some fleecy pjs for DD, some Christmas cards and a christmassy room diffuser, which will not be opened until December 1st 🎄

And the massage was lovely. She only worked on my legs and lower back, which was very relaxing until she jabbed her elbow into my bum cheek! That was not relaxing 😲

So now we wait and see. Have to say though that my legs did not 'burn' in the way they do when I do my physio exercises and I came home and had a nap and my HR actually dropped into resting. So that's a win. She's as interested as me to see the effects and I have booked another session with her for next Friday. So 🤞

Hope everyone's having a good day 💕

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 17:05

That sounds wonderful @Swanhilde it sounds like it's done you some good.

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/11/2025 17:07

Ah great news @Swanhilde Im not sure I’d be wanting to turn the heating off either. It’s so cold today! The massage sounds lovely and relaxing and sounds like the practitioner went gently. Hopefully no payback 🤞

A quiet day here but Im feeling a tad brighter than the rest of the week. I managed some laundry and DH did a couple of jobs that were needed. Played with the dog in the garden for a brief chilly spell and then listened to my audio book under the heated blanket. DD home early today so we’re catching up on I’m a celeb. Not my fave but nice to watch something with her!

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 18:28

I escaped into the big wide world today! Got driven to HomeSense while the estate agent showed people round our house. So we parked by the door, walked in, got in the lift, then headed for the saucepans. Quick look for a large stockpot for DD1's Christmas, nothing big enough so back in the lift, straight back to the car and home. I doubt I was there more than 10 minutes. Big day. Needed a nap when I got home!

That is the sum total of today! But it was nice to be out for a bit. My new coat nearly weighs as much as me but it is amazingly warm, so I'm all set.

FurForksSake · 20/11/2025 18:44

Woohoo @TeaAndStrumpets you got out!

I had an eventful morning with dealing with severe constipation. I’ll spare you the details. I’m now glugging lactulose directly from the bottle.

I think I’m coming down with the cold I dodged last week.

Hip is doing ok, though I’ve not done anything other than sit on the sofa and do my gentle physio exercises.

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/11/2025 18:57

How fabulous you got out @TeaAndStrumpets 👏

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 19:38

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/11/2025 18:57

How fabulous you got out @TeaAndStrumpets 👏

Yes a brief glimpse of the outside world!

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 19:51

@FurForksSake how miserable for you, hope all is well now. Good for you with the physio.

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/11/2025 19:57

Paypal seems to think I'm dodgy! I bought a posh kitchen knife online for my son in law and now they keep telling me it's "payment pending". I think they investigate suspect transactions? It was the last one in stock, so I hope they don't cancel anything.
