Thanks for the new thread @MewithME

Dreary day here but another day at work completed. My thighs are not happy despite painkillers and lift usage 😔

In bed now though, with tea of course. DH is cooking tonight and I'll take some ibuprofen with that. Hopefully they'll get me through til bedtime after an evening on the sofa 😊

Ooh now a scone with clotted cream & jam would also be good right now 😄

Oh yes i completely agree! I could totally eat that!

keepmeright · 04/11/2025 16:40

Believe it or not I can get decent GF pasta & Yorkshire puddings or I would be eating lots of both 😁 white crusty bread with lurpac sounds lovely right now.

Wet room has been life changing, definitely recommend. I have ME/pots & the tachycardia is triggered with standing/heat so it's been lovely to just sit in the shower & not rush out

Yes I do a ketogenic diet and have found actually found a keto Yorkshire pudding recipe that’s pretty good if I’ve got the energy to make it of course.

TeaAndStrumpets · 04/11/2025 17:34

@TodayIsatrickyone Oh don't mention tea cakes! The very best ones I've ever eaten were sold in a little bakery/cafe near Boston market place. They were huge and quite flat, lightly dusted (no horrid glaze) and extremely well filled with sultanas and raisins. We had occasion to go there a couple of times a year, and would have tea and cake then buy a couple of dozen tea cakes to bring home for the freezer. Lovely!

Oh what a lovely memory. They sound amazing!

TeaAndStrumpets · 04/11/2025 18:54

@TodayIsatrickyone there are so many foods I can't eat now, but yes it was nice to wander round the market and then go home with our bakery stash! Happy days.

TeaAndStrumpets · 04/11/2025 18:56

It's so sane on this thread!

Thanks all.

I'm back in bed after an hour and a half of food prep and cooking and eating. I just can't take more upf. So I cooked for me but have to do two different meals all the time because of DS and his autism. I am so sorry over it.

I cannot imagine how wonderful it would be for someone else to just bring me a cuppa. I've been on my own too long I think.

I have completely over done it today. I'm exhausted.

@MewithME gently shoulder squeezes, it sounds tough and exhausting.

InMySpareTime · 04/11/2025 14:14

@MewithME my heart always sinks when a sandwich menu has a load of fancy sourdough instead of soft bread. Lunch shouldn’t be that much hard work.

Haha...you're not wrong. The woman behind the counter was sooooo try hard and unfriendly too. It was like an actual cliché comedy sketch!

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 04/11/2025 20:34

Sourdough is only edible toasted and at home. I like a nice fluffy white for sandwiches, not that I eat many

MewithME · 04/11/2025 20:37

I struggle so much with food just now. It's hard with DS and his needs. I hate making two packed lunches but then it's hard work grabbing lunch at work. I always end up feeling awful after lunch too. I usually lie down when I'm at home.

It feels like a chore to eat but then I definitely do a bit better if I eat a bit better.

I have started getting these fresh ready made meals which arrive on a Sunday, quite expensive but think it is worth it sometimes. It's about £7 each. Frive they are called

MewithME · 04/11/2025 22:08

Ohh I'll check that out @Orangesandlemons77

I tried another one a while but I didn't like them.

I might just live on scrambled egg or soup in future. 😂 I just can't be bothered.

Aldi do some nice frozen chicken skewers and things, that might make an easy dinner? But then of course you have to manage Aldi!

Tarkan · 05/11/2025 06:34

We had a lovely lunch and then stopped in our local on the way home for a quick drink (DD had to run home as I had forgotten to take my painkillers out and I was in agony so it was actually easier to sit in the pub and wait, great excuse anyway LOL) and we ended up playing darts all night. Some friends and other pub regulars joined us now and again too so it was good and I really needed the fun.

I’ve just woken up (well around an hour ago) in absolute agony though so I’m now on the recliner hoping painkillers kick in soon. It’s really getting to me that I can’t cope lying down in bed for more than a couple of hours without pain now. The recliner isn’t ideal either but I can cope for longer on it at least.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/11/2025 07:38

Sorry to hear about those in pain this morning. Just got up and taken some pain meds myself and got a hot water bottle

Going with MIL to the cafe later where someone plays the piano, she likes this. Then have the Ocado order to do for Thursday

DH seems very worried about his work but trying not to let the stress get to me as it will make me worse. But then feel a bit guilty not to be more sort of helpful.

Tricky isn't it at times. Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier just being alone

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/11/2025 08:14

@Orangesandlemons77 I know exactly what you mean, it affects me terribly if my family members or even friends are upset or struggling. I know they hide things from me to protect me and stop me being anxious. I can't help it though. I would love to be self centred with a hide like a rhino! Some people seem to get through life just fine.

If you or anyone else would like to try these, you can for half price the first week (then a discount on the next few weeks) with this code FVA167205 at checkout.

Website here https://www.frive.co.uk/

Oh no I sound like one of those discount code scammers now (yes it gives me some money off too I think, have never used it yet)

I quite like these though they don't seem to have additives and freshly made which is nice. They are trustworthy and always arrive weekly and I stick them in the fridge using the fish / meat ones first and then the veggie ones later in the week. It has made life a bit easier and I think I feel a bit healthier overall.

They just go in the microwave, I often do one of these for me and something simple for the DS's such as a ready made chicken pie, or filled pasta or something. Trying to get them to help more, an ongoing battle

The other thing I have sometimes is Huel or protein shakes (Bol etc) when I can't face much of anything.

So tricky isn't it. I have got a few things which help such as suggesting places which might help, counselling etc. I don't want to sound dismissive though.

MIL is one I am dealing with atm. She's going on about her blood pressure and the monitor having run out of power- this is after refusing meds for it and refusing to test it in the past so unsure why that has changed now.

I am trying mindfulness and not letting it get to me. She never asks how I am so that is toughening me a little. She askes 'so how are (DH and the DSs)" but never asks about how I am doing. Hmm. I will start telling her to ask them herself, perhaps!

I resent this idea she seems to have that women should fuss over their men / sons, but martyr themselves in the process.

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/11/2025 08:29

@MewithME if you could wave a magic wand and have the fridge and freezer filled with meals you like, what would those foods be? Are you having to do separate meals because of allergies or preferences?

Actually scrambled eggs are quite nutritious! Obviously you need easy quick meals. Maybe people here can share a few ideas.

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/11/2025 08:43

@MewithME years ago I read a self help book ((title lost in mental fog) where different types of people were described. Perhaps transactional analysis? My MIL was a "Yes but" type. She would complain about everything but wasn't prepared to accept any suggestions that would make her life better. She would sulk about things and was generally a nightmare. It was a very unhappy marriage, and she would always complain about her husband behind his back, but because she was a sulker they never talked. He was utterly oblivious to her seething rage. I suspect he was on the autistic spectrum because he just concentrated on his hobbies and had a perfectly happy life!

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/11/2025 08:58

Brain fog alert! My second post, about my mother in law, was aimed at @Orangesandlemons77 Oops! But maybe useful to others lol.

Stand by for a day where I reply to wrong poster and/or wrong thread. Brace yourselves for some random posts. I can see it'll be one of those days....

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/11/2025 09:19

I replied to a thread about electric toilets because someone was about to spend a small fortune having one installed. I queried cleaning (how do you sterilise the tubes etc) and what about if you had a power cut. Imagine living by candle light with no bog? My suggestion was a bidet, cheap and easy to clean. OP said she had no room so fair enough. Then another poster said that a bidet doesn't DRY you as though that settled the matter!
I can see if you are a carer these could save a lot of hard work, but on Mumsnet it's more Oh I had a wonderful expensive holiday in Japan so now I am evangelical about expensive bum cleaning.

FurForksSake · 05/11/2025 09:26

I cannot imagine anything worse than an electric toilet and I have horrendous piles and mobility issues 😆
