What will Starmer do if Huntingdon...

Stabbing turns out to be terror related or in a similar vein to incident to recent incidents that were related to immigration ? We don't know the identities yet of the perpetrators. But the fact the Home Secretary is brought in to comment in tabloids and the discussion on LK on BBC today makes me worried its a possibility. The poor people on the train - I cannot even imagine .. ..Starmer needs to tackle knife crime as its rife. What is the answer ? When is there a tipping point ? I don't know but something must be done - I've never paid as much attention other than feeling so terribly sorry for any victims and families. Now I'm starting to get angry when I see anything like this

Well... stop and search no matter what. Increase it and pay no attention to the views that minorities are targeted. This is about safety not racism. Really tackle immigration - honestly - it should be women and kids mostly immigrating if its that bad but it's mostly young men - blows my mind other than perhaps women being oppressed (in which case we should not want people with those views entering anyway ). Assimilation programmes - en masse. If you are a migrant and we allow you to stay you go through rigorous assimilation. Help and firm reviews /monitoring of their job status . Well... these things cost money though and have to weigh up the benefits vs just saying no to immigration (that is not economic and controlled via visas etc)

There was a stabbing down the road from me a couple of days ago, I think resulting in death. It's received no media attention probably because it wasn't an immigrant or under 18 year old. It happens all the time, it's just a few cases which get all the attention and wind everyone up.

I'm.sorry to hear that 😭 . That's awful and also not right as if the media overly focuses on the cases where immigration is a factor it gives a really warped view on the real problem

That's like saying there was a hit and run down the road you've no idea why when people drive cars into crowds it attracts such attention.

Everyday crime is of course an issue but mass atrocities are becoming more common and surely that should concern everyone?

whatawalley · 02/11/2025 10:16

He won't do anything. He's utterly useless.

If anything, he will probably tell us we need to be tolerant.

snughugs · 02/11/2025 10:19

Unfortunately you can’t say anything or have an opinion. It’s been going like that for a while. I suppose when stabbing and terrorist occur on a weekly/daily basis enough people on the left may feel this is enough. It probably be too late already. I wonder what history will say about this? I don’t think they’ll be calling the people wanting a protected border racist . May be these things happen so we can learn from history.

The police news conference on the Huntingdon train attack that was supposed to start at 9am, then 10am is not now due to 11am. I wonder why.

3peepsand4paws · 02/11/2025 10:22

Is it likely that the train had CCTV and if yes, would police have been able to view live what was going on?

placemats · 02/11/2025 10:23

Police statement that was due at 10am now delayed to 10.30am.

HeddaGarbled · 02/11/2025 10:25

The same as every other PM does following tragic incidents would be my guess, but hey, let’s turn a tragedy into a pop at Keir Starmer.

HRTQueen · 02/11/2025 10:25

I imagine he is working on his statement now

he will make a few strong comments on how this country will not be threatened by terrorism while trying to stoke up patriotism, sympathy to family, and gratitude to emergency services

it will be empty words for too longer governments have ignored the radicalisation of young men within mosques funded by our friends Saudi and the threat of allowing thousands of hardened, angry and traumatised young men into the country with very little resources to manage them

It’s an issue all over Europe but how to get a handle on this I don’t know but what I do know is that the far right and far left are both happy to keep us in this situation both sides love nothing more than hating the other side and do nothing to bring anything to the table that can move us forward

we need to be able to have frank, honest sensible discussions im not sure many politicians are capable of this I know some are but many are gripped by fear of saying the wrong thing

Starmer has got to stop telling people not to speculate, they've got to stop treating us like school kids and they've got to reassure us. Increase stop and search, increase police presence in public areas. Stop telling us not to talk about our worries for safety.

The response here was massive and swift so that is good, it's just monitoring people that seems to be the problem. People who commit these crimes must have come to the attention of someone, be it friends or family, they surely have online comments that highlight their ideologies and beliefs. Clamp down on them not those criticising the government and the police.

No people on the left will continue denying it and claim there isn’t a problem and call everybody racists and dismiss and gaslight everyone like they have been doing for years.

He wont 'do' anything. Just like the previous government really. So far no information as to the 2 arrested men.

We know knife crime is a problem, but unlikely to be gang drug related.

Random attacks are very different to stop. Maybe more mental health support or it if terrorist related then deradicalision of men

I think either the race, religion or citizenship of the attacker is a potential trigger point. Or that sadly there have been deaths and they are waiting for family members to be informed before announcing.

Stop and search raises racist questions because they dont stop enough white people to search. Apparently too many young black men were stopped and searched.

localnotail · 02/11/2025 10:32

I wonder why no one seem to be able to wait to see at least some explanation what the hell had happened. Was it terrorism, or something else, who were the perpetrators and what is known about them. All these speculations are meaningless as no one knows anything!!!

I agree that knife crime is a big issue, especially in London. I get local London police news and there is someone stabbed almost daily! This needs to be tackled above all, with tougher sentences and more police dealing with this.

I can guess - and when it becomes clear that there is an immigration angle all hell will break loose 😣. I think this will be a defining moment for the police and the government but I fear they are ill equipped to take a strong stance. The other worrying thing is alp this plays right into Reform agenda
