Well said. I was caught up in 7/7 too, it strikes me that the biggest difference between then and now is the presence now of social media and the fear / tribalism / division that it has stoked.

The biggest differences between 20 years ago and now is the population increase of predominantly legal migrants which has put intolerable strain on public services and noticeably degraded life for the people who are already here; the arrival of tens of thousands of people whose background we don't know and can't check, who are disproportionately criminal; the housing of those people in large groups (often removing even more services like group meeting venues from local people); the growth of concentrated areas of populations with radically different cultures from own, some of which are actively hostile to western values.

And the desperation of politicians not to lose votes by appearing in any way to criticise any of this.
