Newcastle are away to West Ham tomorrow. My first thought was that it could possibly be football related.

You are very very naive if you believe that people stabbing each other for this....

It's horrendous. I live in London 14 years and had an incident with mentally ill person at the train. No escape +takes ages to actually contact someone until you reach next sstation. Thanks God that person didn't have a gun/knife etc.
I saw some posts on Facebook, very concerning....Multiple people reporting about casualties. Definitely waiting for official updates .

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 23:14

Would this be classed as terrorism?

Only if terrorism was the motive.

Yes, when they said it was the Newcastle to London train it was what I thought.

later on on a Saturday, pissed up, coked up football fans will do a lot. I’ve witnessed fights on trains before because football fans thought that someone was looking at them funny.

Where have you read that it’s the Newcastle to London train? I can’t find that on the BBC or Cambridgeshire news, but there are other reliable sources.

Its not football related

Absolutely but stabbing multiple people? Quite unusual even for football fans.

So many young people carry knives now as a standard thing. It was just my first thought. I didn’t automatically jump to terrorism because it’s hardly the typical timing of a terror attack is it?

Highly unlikely for so many reasons. Newcastle fans are not known for this sort of behaviour; the train was travelling north (one report stated) and due to planned works there are no direct trains between London and Newcastle this weekend.
It's horrific. I regularly use the route between London and Newcastle and it's usually a reasonably uneventful journey.

Oh come on, it’s wont be about football. We know exactly who it will be.

BIossomtoes · 01/11/2025 23:16

The train was travelling south towards London, not north.

Rinoachicken · 01/11/2025 23:17

Anyone watching Sky news?? This former detective they have on right now seems completely wasted??!!

I travel that route regularly too, the worst it usually gets is students and drunks piling on at Durham just after the pubs kick out. Gets a bit loud and lairy but not usually violent, it's typically one of the nicer routes to travel.

The report on Sky said it was from Newcastle to London.

Newcastle fans are known to be a bjt shitty, in sorry to say. Like I said. It was just my first thought. I’m not going to bend myself backwards into some sort of racism rage when we don’t know anything about the identity of the suspects.

I am aware of this living in London. It's still not normal to stab multiple people.

DarkNovemberBringsTheFog · 01/11/2025 23:18

@Vinorosso74 , I had assumed that the train was travelling north, but @SoEasyToFall ’s post made me wonder why I thought that.

Do we? Have you notified the police of your information seeing as you appear to know more than anyone else right now?

Fights. Not massively stabbings

Higglea · 01/11/2025 23:18

Several people were stabbed and the train was from Doncaster - I don’t think football at all. I think people tell themselves this sort of thing to feel it couldn’t happen to them, just going on a train. Understandable but it’s not a football riot

Sideshowbobhair · 01/11/2025 23:18

Not sure how it can be football related if Newcastle are away to West Ham? Unless they were all travelling the wrong way...The train was travelling from London to Newcastle as I understand it?!

I don't know what a typical timing of a terror attack is.

all it takes is one idiot with a knife to escalate.

sorry I haven’t jumped to the same racist conclusions as the rest of you though

I don't know what a typical timing of a terror attack is.

You’d not expect them to target a train late on in the evening on a Saturday. You’d expect them to target a busy, packed train with the maximum harm possible.
