And if people really were interested, they’d seek to understand the experience of the parents, grandparents and 2nd and 3rd generation kids. To understand what happened to make some of them so disenfranchised and angry that they do these things. Most people in this situation do not go on to commit these acts.

I am not saying that this makes terrorism acceptable and lets people off the hook by any stretch of the imagination, but anyone who genuinely wants to address this issue will make an effort to think critically, explore the intersectionality of people’s experiences to try and stop this happening again. Not have a rant on social media, throw some bricks at a hotel housing asylum seekers and put up some flags.

What do you understand? My understanding is that it takes a huge amount of resource for successfully settle people in a new country. We can't stretch ourselves this thin.

'7/7 provoked an outpouring of unity and pride in London and the UK, but judging by many of the comments on this thread this morning we have fallen a long, long way since then'

Because the 'unity', 'pride', vigils, singalongs are getting tedious. It is becoming a frequent occurrence to wake up to an atrocity. We are scared, we are scared for our kids and we are sick of it.

44% of our trade is with the EU, plus huge amounts of travel.

Our FTA with them would go and there would possibly be a military clash.

btw i'm not saying Don't do this, i'm pointing out the cost to our economy, France threatened to close channel trade during Covid, it changed Govt policy at the time.

Desperate times = desperate measures I’m afraid. And the EU aren’t necessarily going to be against us. Many countries in Europe are starting to realise the dangers uncontrolled immigration is bringing.

Dissimilitude · 02/11/2025 09:13

People bending over backwards to somehow make it our own fault that immigrants or children of immigrants or disenfranchised people of a certain religious persuasion repeatedly try to kill us.

It’s not our fault. Most of us never asked for this or voted for it in any way shape or form. If the government doesn’t get a grip on it we will be in a very dark place where we will start voting for anyone who looks like they can.

cottonwoolie · 02/11/2025 09:13

It feels very reminiscent of the immediate aftermath of Southport when the govt were desperate to delay announcing that the killer was on a terror watch list and of Rwandan origin

The police did want to say more but prosecutors advised not to, that was a mistake.

NetZeroZealot · 02/11/2025 09:14

I‘m more worried about uncontrollable social media than immigration.

And your opinion is peddling the myth that the people coming here are families/children. They’re not. They’re 99% made up of males. You’re just predictably using ‘children drowning’ in an emotive way, when you know that this isn’t the reality.

I also want the boats stopped, if Starmer fails to do so, then we'll get a Reform Govt, its a huge issue and rightly so

But there are no easy answers.

However, we do need to get rid of pull factors but when Starmer suggested ID cards, he was attacked for this.
Same with Army camps too.

We don't have a handy Naru nearby, unless we send to a detention camp in the Falklands?

Children do drown with this system. It’s not good to defend it.

And are raped in their dying moments.

Allowing boats to cross is nothing short of being complicit in people trafficking

AInightingale · 02/11/2025 09:09

For God's sake. If this was football fans, or any white perpetrator, every state-approved mouthpiece would have been trumpeting the fact within hours.
The fact that there's been a ten-hour silence on the identity of the perpetrators makes such theories highly unlikely.
It feels very reminiscent of the immediate aftermath of Southport when the govt were desperate to delay announcing that the killer was on a terror watch list and of Rwandan origin.

Quite
And anyway the government cannot control all media.

There are accounts on SM smd X and videos of a perp running.

Yeah yeah, not 100% verified as yet and officially entertainment not news but enough that it confirms what most people think

The most recent child I remember dying in a small boat was trampled to death by grown men trying to get on board.

cottonwoolie · 02/11/2025 09:16

Well said. I was caught up in 7/7 too, it strikes me that the biggest difference between then and now is the presence now of social media and the fear / tribalism / division that it has stoked.

Surely it's the fact attacks and deaths keep happening?

Rwanda or the Chagos Islands might have worked. Oh, wait .....

Although when people drown in a Channel crossing, it always seems to be children, tragically. They are placed in the bottom of boats. Probably a deliberate tactic to prevent the French from spearing or puncturing dinghies when a few feet off their coast - 'human shields' in a particularly despicable way.

Yes but in this case we'd be increasing migrants in the EU, France is likely to have an RN Govt soon, they will not accept mass boat returns.

So of course the EU would be against it.

We could tow back out to sea, miles from French waters, ban media coverage of the drownings and turn a blind eye i suppose.

Would you be happy with this?

I’m taking it it wasn’t a drunk Newcastle United fan who had been drinking in Halloween by the looks of things???? (The fact that poster thinks Halloween is some evil excuse to partake in the evils of drink still haven’t been explained although it would seem they know precisely little about any of the subjects they’ve covered

Posters seem to believe that the mass murders aren’t the problem. It’s people having access to news to KNOW the mass murders happened that is the problem.

They aren't entering illegally if they are refugees. The fact that you want British citizens to stand around and watch children drown means, frankly, that your opinion is worth less than nothing.

The boat people are not refugees.

JFC.

What have you done to stop the accidental drownings in the Channel? 176 people have died in the crossings in the last five years. If you did nothing then by your (admittedly extremely stupid) logic, you must not be listened to on this issue

CalmShaker · 02/11/2025 09:20

jasflowers · 02/11/2025 08:06

Again - what do you want Starmer to do???

If you're telling me the PRIME MINISTER no longer has the capabilities to defend our country then we really are in serious trouble.

Can you imagine some like Churchill having that attitude, thank god Starmer wasn't in power back then.

Theseventhmagpie · 02/11/2025 09:20

Swiftasthewind · 01/11/2025 23:56

Maintaining culture cohesion is just too important. We’ve seen what happened with regards to other cases. Nobody likes being lied to I understand that, but do you want potential protests and riots? Do you want a Reform government?

Culture cohesion??? Try telling that to certain sectors of society.
I’m Incredulous at your naivety.

France doesn't attempt to puncture boats, 2 or 3 Gendarmes are not going to try and sink a boat surrounded by 200 men.

Children are short, thats why they are at the bottom of the boat.
