Absolutely awful 😞

We are in one of the safest, picturesque areas in the UK and this has crossed my mind when taking the train recently (probably linked to current news stories rather than actual threat) but thats the sad state of the UK today. Nowhere feels safe when it always did. We live in such an amazing country but something has to be done to change what’s going on.

What was the cause of it? Really terrible for those involved ❤️ my thoughts are with those who are hurt by this

Who.
Who was the cause.

@Vinorosso74 , I had assumed that the train was travelling north, but @SoEasyToFall ’s post made me wonder why I thought that.

Yes, I’d also assumed that (no idea why) but the incident apparently happened just after the train left Peterborough and the train was stopped at Huntingdon so it must have been travelling south.

It was 2 black men

Source? The police haven’t confirmed any identities.

Football fans? What bollocks. Newcastle fans have no significant rivalry with West Ham and why on earth would West Ham fans be on a train in Cambridgeshire the night before their match in East London?

i watched an eye witness interview on the news earlier, from a guy who saw what happened as he was on this train

all it takes is one idiot with a knife to escalate.

sorry I haven’t jumped to the same racist conclusions as the rest of you though

My money is on extremism - that isn't a racist conclusion.

Anyone watching Sky news?? This former detective they have on right now seems completely wasted??!!

Yes!

Firealarm1414 · 01/11/2025 23:21

In what world would anyone's first thought that this was football related with everything thats been going on? I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. This kind of faux naive virtue signaling is nauseating and bordering on gaslighting. Yes we know you're so kind and nice and would never suspect any minority of committing a crime so it must be those dastardly British "ultras" 🙄 until proven otherwise, which of course, it will be.

Man dressed all in black with a "large knife". Its terrorism.

The racists are already at it. Many posters have suggested it’s most likely typical football related nonsense, I’m inclined to believe them.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 23:21

I was thinking mental health but read there were two attackers.

But why would it be racist to assume terror attack?

TeacherPrimaryabc · 01/11/2025 23:21

The government will be hoping the rumours aren't true that these two men were asylum seekers. And this ofcourse is just speculation, based on some witness reports. A witness on sky news said they were two men dressed in black, with knives like it was planned. They have stabbed about 10 people, 2 deaths so far unfortunately.

The PM has got involved and made a statement, the home secretary has made a statement, suggesting that they are very worried about this incident and the country's response to it. Football fans don't go around carrying knives, stabbing innocent people. And it's not one mental health incident. There were two men.

Do we? Have you notified the police of your information seeing as you appear to know more than anyone else right now?

Wow just wow.

I’ve looked on social media (hardly reliable source) and it’s one interview with a supposed witness that is being spread by the usual suspects.

this reminds me a lot of the incident at the Liverpool parade in the summer. Lots of people jumping to conclusions.

floofyhouse · 01/11/2025 23:21

My just-turned 18 year old son took that train yesterday… he has just started spreading his wings and travelling on the train at weekends to visit mates. I was pretty relaxed about it but this feels very close for comfort. How dreadful for the people involved, hope there are no fatalities or life changing injuries.

LaserPumpkin · 01/11/2025 23:21

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 23:19

You’d not expect them to target a train late on in the evening on a Saturday. You’d expect them to target a busy, packed train with the maximum harm possible.

Obviously nobody knows yet whether it was terrorism or not, but that train is likely to be relatively busy at 7.40pm on a Saturday - it’s not that late.

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 23:06

Newcastle are away to West Ham tomorrow. My first thought was that it could possibly be football related.

I don’t think that’s likely

They are often opportunists & a moving train means a lot of sitting ducks even if it's not full.

I’m the one who said that that was my first thought and now I’m being jumped on.

the train was apparently travelling south and to be honest it’s just the type of thing I can imagine happening. Especially after Halloween weekend and people potentially being on a two day bender.

The train was travelling from Doncaster to London. It had been nowhere near Newcastle.
