It doesn't matter which race, skin colour or culture did this, crime is crime, and we are witnessing a huge drop down of care in general. The shit seems to be floating to the top generally, thanks to a combination of low policing and a lighter hand against aggressive men in broader culture.

I get that the rags always want a race story to agitate the plebs, but the real issue is country wide.

You are exposed to increasing insanity whether you drive or take transport.

I was threatened with a knife by a group of boys in the north west a few months ago. It wasn't serious (I didn't feel they were likely to harm me thank god) but it did illustrate the casual apathy, the almost mundane acceptance of violence prevalent now amongst males, as opposed to the UK I grew up in (I am 50).

Of course it matters!

DH is becoming utterly obsessed with keeping us safe from violent random attacks. I keep brushing him off and calling him crazy. The amount of random violent attacks on innocent people does seem to be increasing and being committed by all sorts of people.
What is happening that people resort to this? It's like the school shootings in america, we seem to have people just flipping out and stabbing people or some other crazy shit.
This is just awful and not even unusual now.

Football fans, eh?- time and again the culprits in multiple stabbings
(We all see your virtue signal, love.)

Not only football fans, but football fans who drink and celebrate that nasty evil Halloween. Football fans not wearing a football strip too

I can’t believe that on a thread about an absolutely horrific incident people are squabbling. What’s the matter with you?

People aren't squabbling. Someone made a totally baseless accusation about Newcastle football fans being the instigators of a horrendous attack. I am not a Newcastle fan but I am pointing out that it is highly unlikely to be football related and also that generally Newcastle fans have no reputation for being 'shitty' as was said.

Lunalara · 01/11/2025 23:40

Some people are concerned that a wave of hate against a certain race may begin as a consequence of this attack. That’s not unreasonable to be concerned about. Islamophobia increased massively in response to extremist terror attacks. Antisemitism increased a lot after the IDF’s terrible actions in Palestine. The sensible thing is to wait to see what his motives could be at the very least, instead of rushing to conclusions.

OonaStubbs · 01/11/2025 23:41

The government really needs to crack down on knives and stabbing as it is getting out of hand now.

Why an earth would we want to hope it is a white British man?! So it fits a perceived narrative and doesn’t lead to questions about the type of people who are coming here unchecked/vetted from violent third world countries with histories of religious terrorism?

What a bizarre thing to say.

If it isn't clear to you, the possibility that it was a single white man reduces the fear that its yet another terrorist attack.

It is in fact two men, dressed in black. The police are reported to have tased and then arrested them both.

Wtf... You have no idea of my worldview.

There has been NOTHING confirmed by the police.

People like you just spread fear without any base at all. Idiocy.

well I can pretty accurately guess your worldview based just on those few brief sentences.

Why do you need the police to confirm things when somebody on the same fecking train has already given a pretty good account of what unfolded?

Newcastle are away to West Ham tomorrow. My first thought was that it could possibly be football related.

bonkers
I would put my mortgage on it not being football related
fisty cuffs outside a ground - fair play to you that goes on
multiple stabbing on a train no chance

BBC were very conspicuous by their silence for hours

We live just outside Huntingdon in one of the villages , my DSD was on the that train last night visiting friends

EsmaCannonball · 01/11/2025 23:42

This story has barely broken and the 'Don't Look Back in Anger' media management strategy has already kicked in.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 23:42

The police will have to interview the suspects and search houses etc to see what the motive is and any other potential risks.

TeacherPrimaryabc · 01/11/2025 23:42

Two black men were arrested all dressed in hoodies. That is a fact. Witnesses did not report chanting or arguing between fans. Football fans don't carry knives and randomly stab innocent people. This is likely terrorism again. The country is getting more and more unsafe, and is becoming a very unpleasant place to live.

endofthelinefinally · 01/11/2025 23:44

I haven't heard anything about the men who have been arrested. It does seem unusual that there were two of them. That suggests, to me, that this was a planned attack. Generally some kind of psychotic episode involves just one assailant. Absolutely terrifying for the passengers. I hope they all survive. Thank goodness the police have made arrests. It is a very rural area and difficult to search.

CJFJ1 · 01/11/2025 23:44

Listening to BBC Radio Five Live and they said it was the 18:25 service from Doncaster to London King's Cross. (Now confirmed by British Transport Police.)

PandoraSocks · 01/11/2025 23:44

The police are asking people not to speculate online.

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 01/11/2025 23:45

The train was Doncaster to London going via Peterborough and Huntingdon

It's very concerning that people are getting stabbed on public transport.

I, for one, will be praying for Zohran Mamdani's auntie. Even though she wasn't on the train and wasn't stabbed, she's the real victim in all this.

It's hardly a new thing. It's sadly a regular occurance in south London.
