This has been happening for weeks and I’m baffled. No bleach has been used. No bleach in or around the machine and it’s only certain hoody’s not all. I’ve had to bin so many it’s a joke. I’ve just pulled this out of the washing machine and it’s got bleach stains, nothing else in the load has stains just this? What am I missing? Anyone had this I feel like I’m going mad! I’ve added some photos to show you what I mean.

Does he use anything to whiten his teeth? Could also possibly be his deodorant (aluminium in it can react with sweat to discolour fabric)

worcesterpear · 29/10/2025 23:02

Difficult to tell from the photos, what part of his hoodies are being bleached, somewhere on the front?

Zingy123 · 29/10/2025 23:05

Did you use any Vanish in the washing machine?

YodasHairyButt · 29/10/2025 23:25

Toothpaste? Is there something else going in the same dirty laundry basket with them that could have bleach or something like on it?

Have you asked him in case he's using bleach or some sort of cleaning product you're not aware of?

Chili or very acidic foods sometimes bleaches colour, is it in an area where food might be spilt?

It’s mainly on the back but it’s kind of everywhere

Do the hoodies really have to be binned beacuse of those small stains?
Or are there several stains all over the hoodies?

What does your husband say about the stains?
What is his theory about them, since they are only on his hoodies, not on the hoodies of the rest of the family.
Ask him.

Toothpaste?
Lotion?
Hair product?
Food?

Does he wear the hoodies to work? Can the stains be from something that he works with?

No nothing but if there was then that doesn’t explain why it’s just his hoody’s and not everything else in the basket.

@overstimulatedhermit

is it only your husbands hoodies it’s happening to or a certain one he wears - if so it’s him or something he’s doing.

try handwashing it next time with your normal detergent and see if it happens.

experiment!

If it’s just husbands hoodies - he is using, smoking or doing something that’s reacting when it’s washed.
vape oils, medication, skin care, certain aftershave copies…

are the marks in random places or in sleeves/cuffs and front?

No none of those. And the stains are mostly on the back of the hoody’s

Any new babies around whose stuff is getting sterilised? Milton is terrible for bleaching clothes.

Yes they are unwearable because the stains are really obvious. It’s mainly on the back. They aren’t worn to work and he has no idea how it’s happening. We are both clueless about it.
