This has been happening for weeks and I’m baffled. No bleach has been used. No bleach in or around the machine and it’s only certain hoody’s not all. I’ve had to bin so many it’s a joke. I’ve just pulled this out of the washing machine and it’s got bleach stains, nothing else in the load has stains just this? What am I missing? Anyone had this I feel like I’m going mad! I’ve added some photos to show you what I mean.

Are you using fabric conditioner straight in the drum? When I did this a few times and it spilled onto an item of clothing before the wash started, it left light coloured marks like bleach on them.

i rarely use fabric conditioner so can’t be that. But that’s what these marks are, light coloured not necessarily bleach

I have this with my hoodies too. A couple have a patch of bleached area on the back. Mine are dark hoodies so it's very obvious. It's really annoying as I can only wear them around the house now. I have no idea what has caused it.

But he's means he is. It's the shortened version so it dosent makes sense in the context you've used it. You wouldn't write the title as What the hell is bleaching he is hoody's.

And the plural of hoody is hoodies, not hoody's.

Does he treat the Tesco hoodies differently? Ie if he thinks of them as cheaper does he wear them for different things than his other clothes?

BauhausOfEliott · 30/10/2025 10:50

As someone who actually writes, proofreads and edits copy for a living, I’d like to chip in here and say that people who correct strangers’ spelling, grammar and punctuation in internet forums really are the pits.

Honestly, it makes me cringe to see posters correcting someone’s punctuation for no reason other than to assert their own perceived superiority. It’s unpleasant, ill-mannered and unnecessary and reveals nothing good about you. The OP comes out of this thread looking like a much, much better person than any of you.

CatsorDogsrule · 30/10/2025 10:51

Do you run your machine on a timer? Drips of detergent or fabric softener can bleach fabric if they sit on it for hours before the wash load starts and it gets diluted.

Not really. They are just his everyday wear. Not worn to work or anything like that.

No timer. Washed and taken out straight away

Very, I was wondering if I had leant back against the sink when it had toothpaste or something on it.

I used to hope for big bright futures for my children. Now I just hope they don’t grow up to be the kind of embarrassing human that corrects people’s spelling and grammar on the internet.

we do have P20 but she’s not used it since the summer when she wouldn’t have worn the hoody. Must be hair related products (different to what I use) and her hair is a lot longer than mine.

The old P20 was it was quite greasy. But they sold it all the old ones really cheap a few years ago. It’s the only thing that stops DD catching too much sun. I don’t find the newer one marks anything.

overstimulatedhermit · 30/10/2025 14:20

Update now it’s dry.

The stain is the 80% of the whole back of the hoody. Nothing on the front or the sleeves back or front. I’ve outlined where it is on the pic and if you zoom in you can see it better. It’s even on one of the shoulders.

Take it back to Tesco and highlight the problem. Tesco will definitely investigate.

Surely you'd hope for them not to be the kind of embarrassing adult that's so stupid (and more importantly, doesn't even care) that they can't even use the most basic primary school level of spelling and grammar.

To be so terrible at spelling in a country where schooling is compulsory till 18 yet be proud of how bad your spelling and grammar is, as shown by the OP and other posters, is the embarrassing thing.

No, I mean if they were the type to correct people I’d be ashamed. Unless it was asked for, which it rarely is.
I get second hand embarrassment when I see people correcting others on here; particularly those that refer to others as ‘stupid’.

No one says he’s for his, it’s not a big deal we know what you mean but it does makes your sentence incorrect.

What the hell is bleaching he’s hoody’s?
You’re are saying ‘what the hell is bleaching he is hoody’s?
When you mean HIS hoody’s

She means ‘his hoodies’

So do you consider those who have dyslexia to be stupid then? I’m not dyslexic (well not to my knowledge) I am neurodivergent and also a gypsy who left school at 10. I think I do great considering…

Is it definitely bleach and not scrud?

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2025 17:23

Slightly off topic, but you can cover up bleach splashes on jeans with a waterproof Sharpie. It lasts a good few washes before you'll need to redo it.
