Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

Meh. If I want a ride in a Tesla, I'll book an Uber, thanks. Under a tenner and gets me to work quicker than the bus.

I'd rather take a black cab!

Skoda. I know they’re respectable now and made by a reputable company but never ever in my life will I drive a Skoda. If I win a brand new one it would be immediately put up for sale 🤣

You do actually understand that a Skoda is nothing more or less than a VW with a different badge & sold at a lower price point, don’t you?

LokiDoki75 · 30/10/2025 19:36

Pandora - it’s just beads for grownups and it irrationally irritates the wotsits out of me.

SexRealist · 30/10/2025 19:37

Most of my hates are entirely rational, and shared by many here: Apple, Tesla, Rangerovers, Amazon and any clothing with ostentatious branding.

More irrationally, I dislike: Dryrobes (which i recognise are practical but are irriatingly ubiquitous and ugly), modern VW campervans (faux camping for the rich in their cocoons), Innocent smoothies (such annoying chatty packaging).

A PP used the monstrous word 'wellibobs' 😱 upthread in conjunction with Joules and Hunter. I can never ever look at, let alone buy, those brands now.

Tattletail · 30/10/2025 19:38

Søstrene Grene.

I actually don't mind the stuff but I can not stand the classic music playing in store. It's like you're on the titanic.

I don’t think that I’ve ever noticed music in their stores. I’ll be visiting one tomorrow though, or possibly 2 as they’re 5 minutes apart so I’ve probably just not paid attention.

Lucianno · 30/10/2025 19:42

Radley. I'll admit I'm not a bag person, or a designer expert but Radley and the little dog thing, just seems oddly childish and twee.

The manager at a place I worked had one probably 84/85 .
The engine dropped out whilst he was driving it🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Is she the woman married to the Superdry man? If so, huge!

Yes, that's right! I've seen his company 'Superdry' also mentioned here several times

xogossipgirlxo · 30/10/2025 19:46

Range rovers, because usually the most arrogant people drive them

Less by Patrick Grant is very interesting.

Lush cosmetics

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta Is there anything the Swiss deem to be good chocolate that's available in the UK? Milk chocolate especially? I like the original Lindt milk chocolate, but not the Lindor balls.

Agapornis · 30/10/2025 19:53

Slightyamusedandsilly · 29/10/2025 22:52

It might cheer you up to know that it isn't rated as good chocolate in Switzerland. OK for foreigners but not for the Swiss.

It's the same for Guylian choc seashells in Belgium & the Netherlands! They used to cost around €1.50 a tray from the equivalent of Poundland (Kruidvat). I was quite amused when I first moved to the UK and they were considered luxury.

They taste of soap. Leonidas pralines are much better, and most patisseries/bakeries there sell nice ones too.

Currys

They won't give my daughter a job and she'd be brilliant.
When the computers went down at school she'd get them up and going again.

Currys have been blacklist in our family since my auntie (then in her late 70s and utterly tack sharp) wanted to buy a cooker from them, my mum took her to have a look and the salesman only spoke to my mum and totally ignored auntie, even when she asked him a direct question. He eventually said to my mum that he was talking to her because he thought my auntie was too old to understand the workings!

Sorrelbird · 30/10/2025 20:00

Also dislike Pantene from about 30 years ago, and Sloggi.

In more modern times Bayliss and Harding, Dyson, and Audi (not unreasonably, worst car I ever had and appalling customer service). Also Next.

I have no idea but @Slightyamusedandsilly might do (they said the Swiss don't like Lindt). I'd love it if the lovely cheap UK chocolate like Malteasers or Freddo was mega popular with them though.

Those seashells are bloody awful.

Waitrose . Worked there after escaping from teaching. Overpriced bollocks you could get more cheaply from tesco/ sainsbury's. Same toiletries available in b and m bargains ( next door in Malvern) for a third the price

Lush. 😡
headache inducing sparkle crap

As my sister whispered to me, after we walked past a Lush employee dressed as a fairy who was trying to get us to go into the store, "Lush, Lush it gives you thrush". I couldn't buy anything from there because I have that little ditty in my head every time I pass one of their stores.

Yes I do actually understand that. But I am old enough to remember when owning a Skoda made you a standing joke and I’m afraid that I’m so shallow that I’ve never quite moved on.

Haha spot on, and none of them would have a telly in their house. Anytime we had a Steiner kid for a play date I couldn’t haul them away from the screen.

Never seen a child at a party neck a maccy d happy meal as fast as the vegan steiner child whose mum had sent him with wholemeal rolls and a banana in a brown paper bag
