Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

Hollister, always the joke that is was dark so you couldn’t see how expensive it was when your teens wanted something so you gave in😀

I only like the original Cadbury’s.

I tell my family never to buy me posh chocolate (I loathe it) but to get me some Milk Tray and the they ignore me every time. I end up disappointed and usually give the stuff away.😢

Same. When I came into money I started buying posh 'Kettle' crisps, luxury' Cumberland type sausages, and sausage rolls etc. All way worse than regular, cheapo versions imho. I propose a new thread for items that are significantly more expensive yet taste worse !

How is it allowed to pump glitter (= microplastics) into the water supply?

Not microplastics https://www.lush.com/uk/en/a/glitter-alternatives

I've got as far as p20 and I don't think have seen mention of Nando's: glorified KFC and the food is always cold. I've only been twice but still.

scalt · 04/11/2025 20:28

Tesco, because of that advert of Santa waving his vaxpass. I hardly ever shop there.

And whoever thought it was a good idea to pair it with that awful puce coloured staff uniform - imagine spending hours looking like a blood clot....

Well seeing that Sainsbury's employ about 14500 people, with many of them in a foward facing role wearing the uniform, they don't need to imagine what its like spending hours looking like a 'blood clot'.

What a shitty thing to say!.

Edited

I mean, I used to work there and quite liked the shirts (the proper ones, not the polo shirts.) I had long sleeved ones that I used to roll up, and they had a blue sheen to the fabric. They were also nice and cool in the summer!

Another vote for Skoda ..because (and this is nuts) I am a absolute red dwarf geek (see username) and I can never forget one line that Kryten delivered:
“The linkway is about as stable as an Italian taxi driver who’s got stuck behind two old priests in a Skoda” 🤣🤣

WatchThisGladys · 06/11/2025 14:40

I was shocked when my dad bought a Skoda. I remember the old jokes from school.

What's the difference between a Skoda and a travelling salesman?

You can shut the door on a travelling salesman.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 06/11/2025 15:36

This is an extremely petty one but Lucy & Yak dungarees. I wanted so badly to be the cool mum who wears these with like a casual black roll neck jumper or something, the patterns looked so fun!

Then I made a special effort to get hold of them and I just cannot wear them. They don’t fit my bum, tried several sizes and to fit they have to be comically baggy on my top half. The straps have to be tied in this way that doesn’t work for me to use the loo quickly and kinda hurts my shoulders and on top of that the pockets don’t fit my phone. Oh and the patterns that looked so cool on the model in her twenties make me look like a circus clown! I took far too long to acknowledge these obvious truths and can’t even return them so it’s off the the charity shop some trendy student can have them. Bugger you Lucy&Yak

Skodas are great because the company that makes them (Czech Republic I think) was taken over by VW, so they're good quality and good value. The bad quality reputation must go back to Soviet Union times.

You should try Run & Fly :)

Ooh, how have I not heard about these? Thanks! I’m a bit nervous to try another ‘Thing&OtherThing’ cool brand but they do look like they might fit better and are so pretty… maybe I will give dungarees one more go…

Run and Fly dungarees fit me so much better than Lucy & Yak, but it’s the other way around for jeans/trousers.

Soak & Sleep. To me the “soak” part sounds like sweating in bed, not bathtime.

Or peeing the bed.

More fool the person who dismisses or sneers at the modern reincarnation of Skoda, is all I can say. I've had BMWs, Audis, Landrovers and Jaguars all from brand new and my Skoda Superb Estate was hands down the best car I've had. Not just for the money, it was undoubtedly a phenomenal car for the money. But actually probably the best car full stop, all things considered.

Brew dog
Finch Bakery
Purdy and Fig

Hons123 · 25/11/2025 08:21

This one is not unreasonable, but still, Annina Vogel Jewellery - she vandalises antique pieces and calls it 'her handmade jewellery'.

Oh that's horrible, vandalism is the right word. Can only hope the jewellery was broken before she got to it.

Katypp · 25/11/2025 09:17

I have used Premier Inn frequently, but i have to say the current ad with a sound close-up (is that a thing?) of a snoring woman is making me seriously reconsider.

blobby10 · 26/11/2025 08:57

On The Beach - even if I used holiday companies, i wouldn't use OTB just cos of their adverts!

comoatoupeira · 30/11/2025 20:25

Also, Aussie hair care has always annoyed me for some reason even though I love the smell.
Also Radox - makes me think of radium, something chemically.

I think every Aussie hair product smells absolutely disgusting. I was curious once and smelled each one. Why anyone would pay for their hair to smell like that I can't fathom.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 07:22

I like Surcare as other fabric conditioners are too smelly, even the sensitive ones. It’s not always easy to track down. It’s brilliant.
I understand the Morrisons hate. Our ‘ local ‘ one is more expensive and they don’t take the loyalty card.
