Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

Yes, I have wondered exactly the same thing. I would look like that cee beebies clown - Mr Tumble.

Is it a case of people wanting to look "fun"?

HAHAHAHA Mr Tumble is exactly it 😂

Boden. Largely terrible clothes and just screams 'awful smug middle-class family prone to performance parenting' to me.

Joules. As above, but even worse clothes and weird obsession with shooting-based motifs.

Irregular Choice shoes. I know some of their 'normal' shoes are perfectly nice but for ages I kept getting spammed with adverts for them and everything in the ads always just looked like shoes that would be worn by Su Pollard, pantomime dames and literally nobody else.

Morrison's. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the food they sell but for some reason I find the entire brand depressing and cannot for the life of me explain why.

Charlotte Tilbury. Plenty of the products are pretty good and one of her perfumes is also nice, but I loathe the branding and all her 'Hi Darlings!' bullshit and talk of 'secret ingredients'. There are no secret ingredients in your fucking moisturiser, love; that would be illegal. I also really hate all pink and rose gold on the packaging.

Stone Island. It's for football hooligans and Nazis.

Yankee Candles. They all smell repellent, look ugly and have stupid twee names.

Edited

Yes, yes yes. No notes - totally agree with these !

ThePoliteLion · 30/10/2025 16:19

Bayliss and Harding
all those plastic containers
And it’s like washing up liquid.
I particularly wince when I see the “gift packs”

TheWytch · 30/10/2025 16:21

Duchy Originals

I refuse to contribute a penny more than I'm forced to towards the upkeep of the royal family.

Bloodyscarymary · 30/10/2025 15:56

Yes Charlotte Tilbury! It’s also just SO MUCH PLASTIC. You can only buy eyebrow pencil in a twist up plastic tube and it always breaks after about 2 weeks. Also, you’ll be pleased to know that after a while the rose gold on the lids starts to flake off so you end up covered in microplastic rose gold glitter every time you apply make up as it gets all through your make-up bag and covers everything you touch.

A wonderful alternative is Laura Mercier who still sells sharpenable wooden eyebrow pencils! And last time I purchased it was delivered with a free pencil sharpener - I honestly almost passed out at the elite level of customer service inherent in providing a pencil sharpener free with your product. Pencils are soooo much better than the plastic twist ones as they last for ages - until you’ve sharpened it down to a little nubbin!

Edited

Ooh, Laura Mercier is a good recommendation! I used to use quite a bit of Laura Mercier back in the day but they seemed to really scale back on having counters in department stores a few years back and I'd kind of forgotten about the brand. I must revisit them and order online if there's no counter nearby. I agree about wooden pencils - they're miles better than twist-up ones.

Lindor. My taste in chocolate is very cheap (literally Malteasers or bust) and so any Lindt type chocolate always strikes me as being uppity with ideas above it's station.

I adore cheap chocolate the most!:

  • giant milk chocolate buttons
  • kids Easter egg chocolate
  • Aero balls
  • Maltesers.

Oh, and my chocolate must be pre-'crisped' in the fridge 😋.

CrazyGoatLady · 30/10/2025 04:50

I mean Tesla, for obvious megalomaniac/narcissist twat reasons.

Joules clothing. I hate that faux outdoorsy horsey country chintz look but for Londoners who never go anywhere muddier than Hyde Park vibe. And their stuff doesn't actually stand up to actual outdoor life. I was gifted a pair of Joules wellies years ago, but they split within a few weeks of wear on a smallholding!

I also simultaneously deeply resent the price of Hunter wellies and the fact that they are the only pair I've ever owned that didn't split after a few months!

TKMaxx sell Hunter wellies …

CatFinderGeneral · 30/10/2025 16:28

Twix bars!

They used to be so good. But now they use cheap shit ingredients to save money :-(

PikachuFace · 30/10/2025 16:28

Tesla cars, they are so boring and blocky in design, I’d not really taken any notice of Musk until he had his people send that car into space and that massively pissed me off

Yankee candles, the stink
Lush also the stink
Febreeze again it stinks

Holland & Barrett, they couldn’t deliver orders early in covid but kept taking them and hung onto customers money for months. They will never see another penny of mine again

Poundland, the stores just look so depressing

Dyson but it’s not irrational my DH wanted a dyson cleaner so we bought an overpriced vacuum cleaner to replace a Henry and it didn’t last that long before it lost suction power and as an asthmatic I got pissed off with dust going everywhere when I emptied it

CatFinderGeneral · 30/10/2025 16:29

grapesstrawberriespleass · 30/10/2025 15:29

BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford & Mini Cooper. If someone is driving like an aggressive arsehole, or right up your backside or never indicates I guarantee it’s one of those car brands.

Yeah, why is that? Mini coopers are badduns surprisingly.

I feel like we need to start a whole new thread for our mutual dislike of Morrisons and why nobody can actually pinpoint what's wrong with it 😂

Exactly this. I usually know exactly why I dislike things - and god knows I'm more than happy to tell people - but I absolutely cannot explain why I hate Morrison's.

No way! Jo Malone has such an inspiring origin story from a British female entrepreneur. The scents are also really gorgeous. Give them another go!

Used to love JM but the fragrances disappear almost straight away. They never used to.

Love our Tesla's
Love Radley
Love The white company

Dislike Apple.

CatFinderGeneral · 30/10/2025 16:31

I won’t hear anything said about Nissan Micras though. Sweet cars that used to be the tardis inside. I cried when I let mine go.

AllPaws4 · 30/10/2025 16:32

Jo Malone sold out to Estée Lauder as mentioned above but started her new brand Jo Loves.

Dyson - Support Britain and leave the EU!!! Gave shed loads of money to the Vote Leave campaign and then moved all his production to the Far East. Surely all done for purely selfish and greed reasons. Also won't buy anything from a Brexiteer anyway.

This is why I will never ever buy anything that Dyson produces no matter how well reviewed it is

Pollyanna87 · 30/10/2025 16:34

I spotted some nice-looking Moncler coats in Selfridges the other day, but I still wouldn’t touch Moncler with a barge pole!

Lostuser · 30/10/2025 16:34

Radley and Kipling (the bags not Mr)

Unfortunately I have rediscovered Twirl bars, after a decade not eating them and being very snooty about 'petrol station' chocolate. And that's where I'm finding them, in the petrol station. And I am not resisting. And I am enjoying every mouthful and having to hide the wrappers from my DH, who will remind me of my snooty attitude.

Rolex
Hotel Chocolate

You may not know this, but ALL Rolex profits go to charity. So I do t mi d then so much now :-)).

anyolddinosaur · 30/10/2025 16:35

Liked Radley, cant stand Rush.

Local Morrisons was not too bad until the Americans took it over, had a soft spot for them for delivering during Covid. Unfortunately prices increased, customer service doesnt exist, aisles are narrower and it does give off a grubby impression. That may be poor lighting and high shelves.

GiddyDog · 30/10/2025 16:35

Not read the full thread so maybe already mentioned but Lucy and Yak. Ugly dungarees with an unbearable trying to be 'ever so quirky' vibe.
Always expect a kid in wellies, mismatched leggings and a tutu to be following behind, which they could themselves of course, not the parents trying to be wacky......it's just weirdly always the same combo.

FeetupTvon · 30/10/2025 16:37

Tesla
Morrisons
B&M
The Range
Iceland
Shein
Temu

I hate plastic tat, unethically produced. B&M reminds me of those currently very popular aesthetic homes which are a mixture of beiges and blacks. Morrisons just seems to have no ‘flow’ pricing is strange, labels overwhelming etc.
Teslas as they have zero character.

Kipling Bags

Every time I see a ( usually elderly) lady with one ,they have the monkey dangling off it.

Just think it's naff

Oh no! I like Kipling bags because I can get so much crap in them they are light and make a good every day bag. Agree about the monkeys though, they are cringe inducing and I take them off and give them to a couple of children I know.

Carandache18 · 30/10/2025 16:03

L'Occitane- over priced and boring.
Waitrose.
WH Smith can go under any time it likes.
Morrisons always look grimy.
Charlie Bingham, put down the nutmeg and add a slosh of wine instead.

I’m with you on WH Smith - what a depressing store
i I hate Morrisons too
But if I had the money, I would do my entire shop in Waitrose, not just the odd but here and there.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/10/2025 16:38

Tesla, although it’s pretty reasonable not to support Elon’s cars, lol. Agree re Yankee candles, see also Lush - you smell the shops before you see them.
