Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

Slightly hijacking the thread... i used to be a fan of snag tights but their marketing has started to drive me mad. I want to put them on the banned list... where else can I get tights that stay put and wash well? I've had some of my snags for 5 years and they are still going strong!

Confession. I have a Tesla. It is the single best thing I own and it’s a dream to drive. The seats are extremely comfortable, the big iPad thingy is intuitive, it’s incredibly responsive, and it’s saving me an absolute fortune in petrol, BUT, I loathe Musk (I imagine many of the target market - leftish leaning, middle to high earning, care about the planet types feel the same way) and think he’s trashing the company and alienating his potential buyers. While I’m not getting rid of mine yet I’ll be looking seriously at other options when the time comes. The Ratner Effect is real.

Yep me to….. I love driving it - hands down best car I’ve had but the stigma is starting to get to me…..😂

mrlistersgelfbride · 30/10/2025 15:51

Radley …I’m not a dog person.
MAC- for the animal testing and women I don’t like wear it 🤣

Greenbeanmcgee · 30/10/2025 15:54

I actually like Morrisons a lot more than I used to. They refurbished our local(ish) store and it’s much better than it used to be. They’re one of the few supermarkets that still offer deli, meat, rotisserie chicken and fish counters and they often offer cuts of meat that other supermarkets don’t.

Also I got one of their oven ready meals last week from the fresh meat section(As opposed to the ready meal section) and it was really nice.

WithIcePlease · 30/10/2025 15:55

Bench and Diesel
There was a woman at work who wore them. Something about her always looked a bit dirty - she didn't smell, was nice and pleasant and good at her job. Maybe it was the colours of her clothes

That sounds so unreasonable even by MN standards!

Gilead · 30/10/2025 15:56

Dyson, overpriced plastic that frequently goes wrong!
G Tech, no idea if they’re any good, I just have an unreasonable dislike of the (seemingly) smug chap that does the advert.
Same reasons as above for Head and shoulders!

PevenseygirlQQ · 30/10/2025 15:56

Boden, so overpriced for what it is. Dry Robes, another one for Lindt/Lindor, Pandora

Bloodyscarymary · 30/10/2025 15:56

BauhausOfEliott · 30/10/2025 15:45

Boden. Largely terrible clothes and just screams 'awful smug middle-class family prone to performance parenting' to me.

Joules. As above, but even worse clothes and weird obsession with shooting-based motifs.

Irregular Choice shoes. I know some of their 'normal' shoes are perfectly nice but for ages I kept getting spammed with adverts for them and everything in the ads always just looked like shoes that would be worn by Su Pollard, pantomime dames and literally nobody else.

Morrison's. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the food they sell but for some reason I find the entire brand depressing and cannot for the life of me explain why.

Charlotte Tilbury. Plenty of the products are pretty good and one of her perfumes is also nice, but I loathe the branding and all her 'Hi Darlings!' bullshit and talk of 'secret ingredients'. There are no secret ingredients in your fucking moisturiser, love; that would be illegal. I also really hate all pink and rose gold on the packaging.

Stone Island. It's for football hooligans and Nazis.

Yankee Candles. They all smell repellent, look ugly and have stupid twee names.

Edited

Yes Charlotte Tilbury! It’s also just SO MUCH PLASTIC. You can only buy eyebrow pencil in a twist up plastic tube and it always breaks after about 2 weeks. Also, you’ll be pleased to know that after a while the rose gold on the lids starts to flake off so you end up covered in microplastic rose gold glitter every time you apply make up as it gets all through your make-up bag and covers everything you touch.

A wonderful alternative is Laura Mercier who still sells sharpenable wooden eyebrow pencils! And last time I purchased it was delivered with a free pencil sharpener - I honestly almost passed out at the elite level of customer service inherent in providing a pencil sharpener free with your product. Pencils are soooo much better than the plastic twist ones as they last for ages - until you’ve sharpened it down to a little nubbin!

Heist tights are amazing!

Another Tesla driver here! I wasn't impressed when my husband suggested getting one because of Musk, but I can't help but love the bloody thing! It really is a dream to drive and so intuitive! I love it in spite of Musk, not because of him. Hopefully, our money will go towards getting him out of the company.

Mumwithbaggage · 30/10/2025 15:58

Dove. Smells too worthy.

greglet · 30/10/2025 15:59

@InMyOpenOnion agree re Lucy and Yak. It’s all a bit twee/trying too hard to be bohemian. Also unless you’re a size 4 (in which case you are probably 15 years old and should be shopping somewhere way cooler), all their clothes make you look like a whale.

JohnTheRevelator · 30/10/2025 16:00

Anything to do with Disney. I don't get the 'bordering on a cult ' worship of this brand. Ditto Slimming World. And I'm not keen on Apple products either. I refuse to have an iPhone,I always go for an android. I just think their stuff is overpriced.

greglet · 30/10/2025 16:01

@dewfirst Haha at least the owners were prepared to own the hideousness of their vehicle!

Carandache18 · 30/10/2025 16:03

L'Occitane- over priced and boring.
Waitrose.
WH Smith can go under any time it likes.
Morrisons always look grimy.
Charlie Bingham, put down the nutmeg and add a slosh of wine instead.

Tabitha005 · 30/10/2025 16:04

Lucy & Yak - SO much sodding trans nonsense
Lush - for the chest binding clap-trap a while back as well as the fact all their products smell so awful
Snag Tights - those fucking adverts give me the pox and half of their models look bloody terrible

Greenbeanmcgee · 30/10/2025 16:05

I do hate the Coop though. They have a poor selection of products and are too expensive imo. Plus they seem to have a monopoly on stores in every tiny town or village, they’re usually the only supermarket available.

Kingsleadhat · 30/10/2025 16:07

mugglewump · 30/10/2025 11:19

El Mexicana. It should be either El Mexicano or La Mexicana. Equally, I will never buy from anywhere using a misplaced apostrophe.

Yes. Thank you. I was in a natural toiletries shop called WideEye and a very helpful assistant put together some items for a gift for my niece. I was happy until I reached the till and noticed a spelling mistake on the label. Couldn't do it

Bambieleigh88 · 30/10/2025 16:11

Wholeheartedly agree and I don't know why 😆

A clothes designer I know recently travelled for research to a factory in Asia where loads of well known underwear brands are made. The owner was giving him a tour and he was shocked to find out that the high-end brands are no better made than than the high-street versions - you’re simply just paying for the name.

I never understand why people trot this out. (See also 'All e.g. weetabix are the same'.) It's just so obviously fundamentally untrue. Even if they are made in the same factory/on the same production line, some are made with better fabrics/more attention to design/better recipe. I certainly don't think that the most expensive thing is always the best - far from it - but I do know they're different, and quality will often be one of the reasons.

Another vote here for Le Pliage, I will never get the love. I grew up in an era where every gran/mother had a cheap nylon bag that folded up in to a little pocket, and wouldn't have been seen dead with one. As per my bit above, I get that it's probably better quality materials, but still looks like £1 off the market to me.

anyolddinosaur · 30/10/2025 16:12

Dont think it's unreasonable but - Bayliss & Harding. Horrible drying stuff.

Bambieleigh88 · 30/10/2025 16:13

CathyIreland · 29/10/2025 22:48

Champneys and The Sanctuary in Boots - cannot take either brand seriously and do not like the products.

Wholeheartedly agree and I don't know why 😆

Calliopespa · 30/10/2025 16:13

Flinderskleepers · 30/10/2025 14:57

Dr Beckmann, Calgon, Febreeze - basically any brand that has really bad dubbing on the adverts

But Dr Beckman I have to applaud. I bought the deodoriser one for an item that had got musty and its the only thing that worked. It was nothing short of brilliant. not only did it tackle the job, it even smelt quite nice - in a subtle way.

And at least voiceover ads suggest they will let the product do the talking without excessive emotive trickery.

I had not heard of this brand before but just had a look and it's giving children's TV presenter. I could not wear colourful dungarees and take myself seriously as an adult. Who on earth is their target market?

Yes, I have wondered exactly the same thing. I would look like that cee beebies clown - Mr Tumble.

Is it a case of people wanting to look "fun"?
