Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:00

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

(have namechanged)

Is anyone else shocked and appalled that the salon are still opening and advertising services despite this terrible incident occurring? No apology, no contrition, just nothing at all from them.

I'm not surprised at all. Disappointed in lack of apology, but it's a big salon with about 12 stylists, the juniors etc so I wouldn't expect them to close! I do hope they've gotten to the bottom of why it happened and put things in place to prevent it happening again. Also - selfishly I don't want them to close before any legal stuff is complete

Your DD's donor site will heal fine. I had the same off my thigh, a rectangle just as bright red. Now you can barely spot it, it's a fraction paler. (And so the burn itself will also heal well.)
Attaching photo of my leg, assuming it uploads!

Can't even tell @CornishMade

That's good news isn't it, OP 👍
Best wishes for DD's continued recovery x

Nightmarehairinjury · 23/11/2025 07:49

@CornishMade thank you for posting your beautiful leg!

I’ve been quietly following your updates although haven’t read the full thread. It’s good to see your daughter is slowly recovering from her initial burns and I hope it is no longer too painful.

I’m shocked HSE didn’t do something under RIDDOR or COSHH regulations and that the hair dresser is carrying on as if nothing happened.

I hope you manage to get a resolution through your legal route.

Fundays12 · 23/11/2025 09:48

OP i have just caught up with your posts. Omg your poor daughter. I actually cant believe they are letting this "stylist" still bleach hair after the damage she has done to your dd.

That must be really encouraging to see as i can’t even spot the area you had the graft. Looks perfect!

Petitchat · 23/11/2025 22:07

OP, don't forget to keep daily record of any effect this has on DD's schooling/ education.
It will go towards compensation.

Nightmarehairinjury · 04/12/2025 14:32

Just a wee update. Legal stuff Underway, subject access request being submitted to hairdressers.

Not such good news - GP appointment today, graft potentially infected so antibiotics started. Fingers crossed it's nothing.

Gosh yes, I hope it heals quickly and well!

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 04/12/2025 14:48

And the salon is still open?

I don’t think it’s uncommon for an infection and hopefully the antibiotics will do their thing swiftly

tinyspiny · 04/12/2025 16:39

If The GP is thinking there is infection I’d be getting back in touch with the plastics team to get them to see it ASAP @Nightmarehairinjury .

grumpygrape · 04/12/2025 16:56

I do hope the infection clears up soon 🤞
Best wishes 🥰

This. The graft has been healing so well it would be a shame to take any risk with it.

Nightmarehairinjury · 04/12/2025 17:40

Will be keeping a close eye on it and if it gets any worse then will ask GP to refer to plastics.

tinyspiny · 04/12/2025 18:36

@Nightmarehairinjury I’d just ring the secretary , my BIL has had lots of treatment from plastics including grafts and that is what he does .

Mumsknot · 04/12/2025 18:51

It is shocking that the salon is still open and the stylist who did it still working! In any other business they would be suspended pending an investigation!

I called plastics, they told me to call GP and if GP needs to then he can refer. I'm not too worried, a colleague who worked in plastics is able to advise if needed too. (I work for NHS)

I'm very interested to see what (if any) action they've taken - which we'll see via the SAR
