Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

(have namechanged)

I was at the hair dresser when I read this and he said they don’t do treatments for any under 18 kids for these reasons; to avoid being sued. They only do haircuts and blow dry for kids.

To be fair her age is neither here nor there, if she was 18 she'd be suing too

Yes, I don't get that comment either. If you're running a business on factoring in what you need to do not to get sued I think you need a different business model!

Hankunamatata · 13/11/2025 16:13

There's a few associations hairdressers cam register with so might be worth seeing if they are registered

Thisismynewname23 · 13/11/2025 18:16

I hope you are ok you have had so much to deal with, I hope your daughter is getting better too I’ve thought about this so much and what you have been through

Nightmarehairinjury · 13/11/2025 18:26

It is looking better every day - lost a strip of scab today which she chased her big sister with... Lovely.

I guess I'll know when it's really looking better when it stops being classified as a sensitive image....

I hope she continues to heal well x

Daisrose · 13/11/2025 18:51

wow, it's healing SO WELL. well done team. her pink hair desires still being strong made me smile! she's a determined soul!

Coffeesnob11 · 13/11/2025 18:55

I hope she continues to heal. If she is really bothered once it's healed more you could look at a wig to cover it until she can get it to how she is happy.

CynthiaRothrock · 13/11/2025 19:23

I've only just seen this thread but your dd is being so brave! I can't believe the hairdresser is still posting the services. Hopefully as she ages and heals the difference in skin won't be too noticeable.

Billybagpuss · 13/11/2025 19:43

That’s looking so much better.

Pancakeorcrepe · 13/11/2025 19:50

Your poor girl! This is unbelievable.
It does look so much better already, she is healing well.

PinkKimono · 13/11/2025 20:00

You have one resilient DD there, OP! She sounds great.

spiderlight · 13/11/2025 23:09

She sounds awesome!

AutumnCosy2025 · 13/11/2025 23:10

It's looking really good. how's her leg healing?

id buy her a good quality pink wig (I'd spend the money getting a wig that can be dyed because there's no fucking way I'd be letting her get ANY treatments. Trim only. She could do whatever she wanted to the wig.

please keep posting updates

Nightmarehairinjury · 14/11/2025 11:36

Leg is doing fine - relentless moisturising.

First time I have seen pics of the injury. Wtaf!😱 You and your DS are. Handling this extremely well. I hope you get a lot of compensation for this.

Nightmarehairinjury · 20/11/2025 17:02

We're now on solicitor number 3 assigned by insurance. First 2 were English companies who didn't have jurisdiction, finally been assigned a Scottish solicitor so start the process again....

Dd doing OK, still not going out without a hat or headband, which is understandable. Most scabbing gone now, donor site healing, bright red though, which should settle.

As a healthcare professional with experience of working with those with traumatic burns, I would recommend contact with the Katie Piper foundation for support. Katie Piper Foundation – Our Services

You are both incredibly brave and bloody strong. Hoping three is the lucky number and things start to get moving in the right direction soon

Sunshineismyfavourite · 20/11/2025 20:14

Goodness OP I wish I had some words for you - such a traumatic thing to have to go through. I sincerely hope things move quickly with the solicitor. I hope your DD is getting all the help she needs and support with the healing process. And you too! Sending hugs.

NOTANUM · 20/11/2025 23:03

She is one brave girl! I am wishing her and you well in your pursuit of justice. I’m definitely not a “sue them” type but I feel very different here because there is no criminal charges to be taken.
This hairdresser needs to be stopped.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 21/11/2025 07:19

The images are not longer being shown as sensitive! Shows they are getting better.

I’m still angry there are no criminal avenues for you to pursue. It is shocking that your only option is to sue them, if you didn’t have legal cover on your house insurance there would be no consequences to the hairdresser at all.

If we hadn't had legal cover we would have taken the "no win no fee route".

I will be asking solicitor whether this could fall under criminal negligence

The law is constructed to protect the more powerful. Shocking

shocking also is the fact that the “hairdresser” who did it is still working.
