Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

I showed this thread to my hairdresser who said that a plastic bag must have been placed over your DD’s head covering the forehead, then applied heat with a climazone and was left unattended . This would have caused the beach to liquefy and pool on the top of the forehead causing the burn. Either an inexperienced or negligent hairdresser . How is your DD doing now? Hope the infection is clearing

Nightmarehairinjury · 12/12/2025 15:51

@mrbojangle no extermal heat applied. Infection seems to have resolved, still red but no worse. Her wee tuft bits are getting longer.

Hospital have asked if her case can be used in educational sessions (original Ed report said "superficial" burns!).

@Nightmarehairinjurymaybe the bleach just pooled for some reason and because she wasn’t checked regularly, it wasn’t noticed until too late . Glad infection has resolved . How stressful and upsetting for you all though x

It would be great if you and your daughter were happy for that. It's so important to learn from unusual cases in case someone else is in the same position in the future. I remember frantically looking up management of alkali burns, whilst waiting for the burns unit to get back to me with advice, some years ago when we had an unusual incident. Clinicians are so much better at remembering important information when there is a real case to attach it to in their heads.

How is DD? Looking forward to Christmas or not really in the mood?
Bless her..

Here's a bit of a funny story. I had a routine breast scan and they called me back in 😮
There was a mark/ shadow on the breast. Turned out to be a bit of sudocrem!
They asked to use the scan for educational lessons 😁

She's doing OK thanks. Still not going out without a headband and has a funny wee tuft of hair at front - but at least she has hair! Roots growing in and getting more desperate to get her hair coloured. Wound healing OK, v patchy.

That's looking really good - lots of areas where the redness has calmed right down.

Read the full thread please, before you jump on @Nightmarehairinjury with both feet! This happened TWO months ago, and you're quoting a comment from way back then. If you'd read all the OP's posts, you'd know that she was horrified by what happened to her daughter and has been there every day since. Numerous doctor appointments, multiple surgeries- give her a break, okay?

@Empress13

UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

Words fail me and that doesn't happen very often.....

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/12/2025 15:13

@Empress13 Where on earth did I say I couldn't look at her?????

triballeader · 22/12/2025 15:31

Wow, please let her know that whilst it probably does not feel like it that is looking like a good healing. The redness and bumpiness should settle down given far more time and her hair is regrowing. It’s awesome just how fast she is healing given the injury and her need for skin graft.
May you all have a happy Christmas together at home.

Did it not occur to you to maybe read past the first couple of sentences on a thread that is 2 months old with 640 replies?

Fedupwiththecuts · 22/12/2025 15:46

Your poor daughter. She looks like she's healing so well though which is brilliant. I hope she's ok. It must have been so shocking for you both.

capybaraforlife · 22/12/2025 15:51

I have just found this thread and OP Jesus Christ you have handled this with such grace and calmness. Thank god your DD is healing so well.

How you have restrained yourself from putting bricks through the salon windows shows your great character!

Really wishing you all the best and sending love.

Are you trying to be funny? This is one of the silliest posts I've ever seen on MN.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/12/2025 19:13

That graft is looking really good. I hope your DD can see the improvement. Oh, and ignore the idiotic post.

wizzler · 23/12/2025 09:33

@Nightmarehairinjury your post is one that has resonated with me this year. I think you have handled it brilliantly and your daughter has shown amazing resilience. Hope you both have the most wonderful Christmas

Nightmarehairinjury · 23/12/2025 09:57

It's still unbelievable to me that I drop her off to get her hair done and she's going to be dealing with the impact for the rest of her life. She's such a fabulous young woman, and I'm so proud of her.

Hopefully after Xmas the legal stuff will have moved forward. I'm feeling sad for the hairdresser - see on Facebook that she lost her dad a couple of weeks ago. V mixed emotions.

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/12/2025 10:04

I think it’s healing really well

hopefully you can all put this big mess aside for Christmas at leasf

it looks like in the future she will be able to hide it all with a fringe if self conscious
but at this rate it might not be necessary

tinyspiny · 23/12/2025 10:49

It is looking really good @Nightmarehairinjury , hopefully the legal stuff will be easily resolved . Merry Christmas
